View Full Version : Cartoon hair practicality question, and a challenge?

Hi

I was watching 'Galactik Football' on tv this morning with my son and one of the characters has a sort of 'cartoon mega-ponytail' - I found myself wondering if it's possible to actually do this with hair that length.

If anybody wants to treat this as a hairstyle challenge, feel free of course :-)

That must hurt! Even with my fine bsl+ length hair I cannot wear a high ponytail all day. Let alone if your hair is down your ankles.
I'm curious to see someone doing it IRL though ^^

That looks really impractical for real life, sure it works perfectly in cartoon land where single strands dont go on their own adventures.

Would be interesting to see IRL though.

LOL! Funny!

My hair is somewhere between BSL and waist, and I'm pretty sure if I tried this do, I'd have a massive scalp-ache and tangled hair in a matter of minutes. It does look cool, though, in the cartoon.:)

It would probably need a kind of framework like some types of medieval veils have, but I wonder how migraine-friendly that would be.

Interesting to see that everyone so far has commented that high ponytails give them headaches! My strands must not be as "heavy" because I am at least BSL straightened and have no problems with high ponytails.

Back in the day (80's) I used to do that all the time. My hair was midback though. To get it done I used 3 or 4 scrunchies stacked on top of each other and backcombed it into oblivion.

I do not have any pictures of that one.

I dunno, Merlin. I'm disappointed. Why couldn't we have had something more challenging to do than a ponytail?

Already done it many times. I was thinking of the Amazon Quartet:

Sorry? Didn't I mention that you not only have to do it on super-long hair, but you have to do it so well you can play this hyper-athletic version of science-fiction soccer without it coming loose...

Hmm if I had super long hair I'd so try it. I bet I could find a way to make it work. Stubborn Pegs is stubborn.

No ankle-length hair here to do the mega-pony, but someone mentioned Sailor Moon...my kiddo loves the show, and we've done a couple of the styles from the cartoon.

girl, you have mad skills.

Okay, how about Sailor Moon's Kagayaku-hime? Maybe? It's very Amazon quartet-like anyway, hmmm...

High crown is my preferred ponytail placement. I can put it up and leave it for a few days. I don't feel it at all, it's like I don't even have hair anymore.

I think if we combine this thread with the "Scariest Video on You Tube" thread we could come up with this style. And teased and sprayed it may well survive a galactic soccer game-thingy.
