View Full Version : went to a salon and got highlights

I have actually found a long hair salon that is actually in the hospital where I work! the hairdresser has hip length hair and totally did what I asked and trimed the straggly hairs off. My hair is now all the same length at sides and shaped at the fringe (still to my collar bone)

The hairdressers hair is really beautiful despite her having highlights and she totally understood my fear of salons. I must have went white when she got the scissors out as she giggled and said 'dont worry, just the very ends' which she did! I kept saying ' show me what you call cutting the ends off and I will tell you if that is my idea of a trim' so she did and i relaxed, really enjoyed it!

She is going to do monthly deep conditionings for me and told me all about the evils of pantene, straighteners, hairdriers and some scarey stories of how she has asked hairdressers in the past for a trim and come out with a hacked cut!

She only lifted the colour one stage so it looks natural and not stripy, the lighter bits are a strawberry goldy colour, will post some pics up!

She even said no more than highlights 3 times a year max and no more than 3 trims if I want to get to waist, even said the word dust! I did wonder if she is a member as she certainly sounded like a hair pro!

My hair feels so nice now on the ends which where split, oh and she even typed my hair! wavy, baby fine hairs but plenty of it!

Can you all tell im excited?!

Wow! That sounds like an amazing experience.

What most of us wouldn't give to have that kind of care so close by...

You'll get to waist sooner than you know! (your siggy pic is beautiful)

Thank you, I couldnt believe it. I called into the salon with my nurse friend who was getting her fringe trimmed and there she was with her long hair, so I told her i really wanted highlights but was scared about having a cut due to my past experience, she took a snip (nearly passed out much to my friends amussment!) and tested it, later that day (yesterday) she rang my ward and said it had turned out lovely, so Ibooked for this morning.

What a find! it was like having a real life conversation with the members on here, we talked hair for 3 hours coconut oil, weekly deep conditionings every subject covered!

When I first went in, my hair was in a bun and she said ' wow your hair is very long' (big proud smile, even though it looked short next to hers) she also said to say I havent been in a salon for 3.5 years my hair was in excellent health, which made me chuffed to bits!

Yes I am very happy, camera battery charging but photos soon be posted....watch this space!

I don't know just long 2c/3a highlighted golden blond, hip and thick hair, but I really would not be suprised if she was a member, nearly asked her but would have felt a geek if she said you what? not that geeks come on this site you understand, but she was hair obsessed like us lot!

You know a lot about colours and stuff and always give an honest answer, you remind me a lot of spidermom, I know that your replies are honest and not just saying what the poster wants to hear; in my book that makes you a specialist!

I think it's fascinating (and a bit scary) that we're all so blown away (and, I'll admit at least for me, a bit *jealous*) that you found a long hair stylist. It's sad, isn't it? That finding someone who does what you want her to (not giving you the Hassan Chop!) is somehow amazing and extraordinary?

It seems I'm not the only one who has experienced major emotional trauma at the hands of a 'trained stylist'.

Congratulations on your find, and your lovely highlights!

I LOVE it jojo! Very nice and natural looking! Hope you get around to inviting her to this site, if not outright asking if she is already a member!!! She might be in her glory here!!!

I mentionned on a thread, yesterday, that someone had once told me the evils of Pantene, but can't for the life of me remember what it was? Do you remember what she said? Because I'm using it full-out again, and I've really like the results of it. Not sure I really want to know the evils of it, but I guess ignorance is not bliss!!! Would appreciate if you share.

Oh, that's beautiful! It somehow lifts the colour and makes it richer without looking at all obvious. I am envious of your lovely hair-experience, though! I don't suppose you live in the bottom half of England, by any chance? :p

The last time I went to a salon, the hairdresser asked me how often I usually had my hair cut - when I replied that I'd not been in the past four months, I was severely reprimanded (despite the fact that I had very few splits)! For me, though, the washing-process is the very worst part. They always have the water very hot, shampoo twice and then saturate my scalp in cone-y conditioner - I spend the entire ordeal sitting rigid in the chair.

The color looks lovely! It looks absolutely natural.

I was told that it looks good at first because Pantene coats the hair shaft in wax. It starts looking worse, though, as the wax builds up. It might not be as much of a problem if you do a good clarifying rinse. I don't use Pantene anymore after a stylist showed me (years ago) the build up that she removed by running her fingernail along one of my hairs.

Can I just chime in and say how very lovely your hair looks (before AND after highlights). Your hairdresser sounds great, it must be nice to be able to relax and confidently submit to a trim from someone else :)

Btw, you look a LOT like an Australian TV personality: Jackie O. Except she is blonde, but you have VERY similar eyes!

Thank you, yes I am going to mention this site on my next visit, they have washed a little lighter but I am liking them very much. I was worried my hair may get a little dry but it feels and looks the same, probably because there are only a few but just goes to show less=more! and funnily enough, I feel I dont need to wear make up as much!
