How long will it take your hair to get knotty after combing or brushing?

For me, if I'm sitting relatively still, it'll behave for 2+ or so hours. Of course, if it's humid out or I go outside in the wind, all bets are off. Ten minutes, tops.

My hair is super-short right now, so I have it pretty easy, although I'm trying to be ultra-careful as the hair I have around my ears today will be (hopefully!!) around my waist in a few years.

For me, there's tangles, then there's KNOTS. When my hair was long, I often wore it up, so knots weren't an everyday thing for me. But yes, if it was out in the wind, then BANG!! Within minutes there'd be knots that could only be trimmed out. Blech. Good reason to always carry a hair tie or clip or something!

I don't really have a problem with them--I can just run my fingers through. However, if I brush my hair (head upside down with a boar bristle brush), I have to comb it out once I flip my head right side up, otherwise it looks like I teased it.

Depends on the person. Portions of my hair will start to knot before I'm done combing the rest of it.

Since I've gotten back on silicones my hair doesn't get knotty, but it does get tangly after a few hours if I'm doing anything more than sitting still. I run around a lot at work (over 6 miles a day) and my hair will tangle by noon if I don't put it up. But if I'm just bumming around the house my hair doesn't get into much trouble. :)

This is really hard to say, as it depends on hairlength, hairtype and what you are doing.
I have a very straight hairtype which does not tend to tangle. I never had knots with waistlength hair for example and I was wearing it loose a lot that time.
With hip or tailbone I had occasional knots when I forgot to secure my hair before sports or in windy weather. Then 10 min. would be enough to create the first knots. But I had no knots after a whole day, when sitting or walking around under calm conditions.
With my length now I hardly ever wear it loose (except while drying) so I donīt get knots either.

It depends! I have days where I wake up and it won't knot at all, and days like this morning where it seems like I stuck my fingers in a light socket when I was sleepwalking or something  Then it knots up RIGHT after combing. I had to fingercomb even before regular combing, and that is VERY unusual for me.
