I did my roots today and once again I have a problem with my scalp ithcing... It's really hard to keep myself from scrathing it too  Last time I used henna and indigo, the itching lasted for about two days and I really didn't enjoy it...

Anyway, my question is: Does anyone have any tips how to make my scalp feel normal sooner?

Are you sure it's not due to an allergy? I know of several indigo users who developed an allergy to it over time. If so, the only thing you can do is stopping the use of indigo (or henna, but I never heard of henna allergy so far, but who knows...).

Hope, you'll be better soon.

^I really hope that it wouldn't be allergy, even though that thought has come to my mind. I'm still hoping that it would be "just" irritated skin or something... It's not red or bumpy or anything like that.

I don't know what should I do if I would need to stop using indigo :(

My scalp was always itchy when I used indigo. I never found any way to get around that. I tried katam instead, but the color wasn't as permanent or dark.

Whenever I do a henndigo, my scalp will itch for about a day or so, until absolutely ALL of the lil sticks/etc. are off my scalp. So, I recommend just making sure that all the powder/lil sticks/chucks are out of your hair, and scrubbed off your scalp. :D

Yes, I agree, Toocute2nv, that's totally true. Rinsing it out for a really long time will help some!

Thank you a lot tooqute2nv, you gave me hope :) I haven't been rinsing my hair out long enough, that I know for sure. Next time I do my roots, I will need to see if it will help with the itch.

Update: I went to shower, washed my scalp with some sls-free shampoo and rinsed for a long long time. Now my hair is dry and the itch is gone! So happy about this.

Now I'm just left feeling a little dumb, because the reason for my problem was just my laziness with rinsing :P

Glad it worked! Don't feel bad, I wouldn't have guessed that was the reason unless I had the problem too!! ;):o

I had this for the first time just recently too. Don't know if was the indigo or left-over grains on my scalp. It didn't itch whilst processing for an hour and a half, so hopefully I'm not becoming allergic.

What I did (which worked) was put Daktarin on my scalp. It's what we UK-ers use as our miconazole treatment, and it was designed for athlete's foot. Maybe you could try some Monistat to stop the itching - might get a little extra growth, too, and that never hurts, right? :)

I've found soaking my head in the tub for a few minutes will help loosen some of it on my scalp. Otherwise, it'll stay there and itch!

I'm glad to hear the extra rinsing helped too. I am going to take extra note of that. Maybe try getting the best sifted henna powders and herbs as possible so you don't run into tough herbs to wahs out in the future.

I suffer from the itching as well. I soak first, and then I shampoo until the rinse water is clear. Still, several days go by with itching and when I scratch, under my nails I can see this residue of color. Eventually, it stops itching and I don't see any more residue under my nails.

I think I'm going to try henna glosses from now one. I wonder if the full henna is just too much for my scalp. I don't know.

My itchy head story

I have done a full head henna three times (in two weeks!)and this third it itched like bananas - the only thing I added was cinnamon. I guess it was harder to rinse out spices! :)

Conditioner washing and oils oils oils helped greatly.
After henna I apply oils like jojoba, and coconut and whatever else I can lay hands on my hair and scalp. Then I pull it up into a loose pony tail and let it dry. Next day i conditionwash and mmmmmmmmmmmm no itchy head and smoooooth soft hair!

I rinse very very well after henna, too, otherwise the itch tortures me ;-) I found that Dabur Vatika is helpful. After henna, I oil my hair and scalp with Dabur Vatika, for it draws no color and it gives great shine and relaxes my scalp. then I leave my hair alone for two days.

If you use Jamila henna like the summer crops, have a very super fine sift, like exactly like baby powder and a paste as creamy as melted chocolate and that won't leave ANYTHING in your hair. So I'd recommend that powder for a deep rich red tone along with the easiest washing out ever!

^For me, I don't think my henna is the problem, it's really fine powder and good quality. But I haven't been able to find indigo that would be as smooth :( I have bought it from different suppliers, but it's always pretty much the same as far as the sift goes...

yeah the indigo is definetely a tad bit more fibery then the henna powders can be but especially when compared to the Jamila.

Is buxus easier on the hair than Indigo?

I am loving the Henna so far, but If I ever want to go back to my original black/brown, I figure i could always add one of the two :)

I got really bad itchy scalp after my first henna - someone suggested that I just wash my hair again, because the leftover residue does that, and it worked. :)

So just wash it once or twice more, hopefully that will help.

Well I find buxus more fibery and not as well sifted as the indigo. So if the washing out is the only issue causing itching, then I'd say stick with indigo as its sifted better.

But if it's an allergy issue it seems from my own experience so far, that the buxus (aka Katam) is milder then the indigo for sure. PLus it would make a bit more sense to me in that as well because katam can't make your hair go black, therefore it's not as strong as indigo.
