These seem to be my favorite hairsticks, I am amassing a collection. Some are vintage, several are from the swap board, the latest acquisitions being the blue set and green set on either end. I have included action shots, too! A special thank you to Anna09 who included a matching set of earrings with the green sticks - I am modeling them.

Pretty! I love Mei Fa's; they look so elegant. I suppose we can turn this into a "show me your mei fa's" thread? I don't think we have done a photo thread for Mei Fa yet. I'll have to go snap some pics!

Love your silver-topped shorties kdaniels8811! Mei Fa's are by far my favorite sticks, though I've only had two pair. :p But the short length held my TBL hair, and still work at shoulder. Love 'em.

I really like the look of them, too. But aren't they a bit too delicate for long hair? How on earth can you hold your hair with Mei Fa, Cinnamon? :o

*If anybody wonder what "Mei Fa" means, it's just "beautiful hair" in Chinese. :)

trollkjerring, way to be on the spot with pictures! Great eye candy there.

I can use them in a cinnamon or other round shaped bun. Sometimes with a couple Good Hair Days pins helping out or if I get the Mei Fa sticks positioned just so, they will do the work all on their own. Mei Fa's are more delicate than, say, dymondwood sticks for example, but they are still quite sturdy. I just have to be careful not to torque them too much when inserting in the bun.

OHOHOH!, Trollkjerring, I am now in serious envy. I love your sticks! You have a beautiful collection. I want,want,want....

Wind - the short silver topped are perfect for wearing to sleep in and not poking hubbys eye out. They are very comfortable to sleep in. I found them on the swap board and they are 4" long.

Mei Fa's are a relatively new weakness for me. I've only bought mine used because it is a little easier for me to afford this way. I still need certain colors and looking at these collections has me lusting over some of these designs although it looks as if many of these are no long available. Sad for me, but better for my budget I suppose.

Glad you like the pics:)

Mine are all at least three years old or older, they are from the time when grouporders were still allowed or I could never afford them.

trollkjerring -- What a wonderful assortment of Mei Fas you have!

I loved the shorty sticks for holding a half-up bun. Until I broke mine off where the beads started. I think those were my first sticks so it was my inexperience with how to hold them while inserting them that caused me to pop off the top. But they were really perfect for a half-up like that.

I just recently rediscovered my Mei Fas. Really great for thin/fine hair too, IMO.

Trollkjerring, we have similar taste in Mei Fa's :) I saw several of mine in your collection. Mei Fa's are stronger than they look. I find they hold very securely. Gooddays pins work great as a little extra support. Be careful using Amish pins as support as I scratched one of my black Mei Fa sticks with an Amish pin. Of course I wasn't being careful and it was my own fault.

I miss the group orders!

Well, that's it. I'm going to have to go through my hairtoys and put some that I'm not using up on the swap board so that I can afford some more Mei Fa's.

I knew I shouldn't have looked at this thread. But I have to say I wear my Mei Fa's more than anything else I own.

I think a few months ago, someone at TBB expressed interest in another Mei Fa group order, but a leader of the GO didn't happen. I think it got dropped then. So you may want to check there periodicallyt to see if there's another one cooking.

I love these sticks! And yes, I'll echo what others have said -- they look delicate (and you have to be careful with them) but they hold really well. (For some styles, I have to use a hair scroo or two for added support, but I have to do that with Ficcares some days, too!)

Their range is incredible, and I find it so interesting the ones that individuals are attracted to! I have two of trollkjerring's... two of Cinnamon Hair's... Oh, so pretty! (eta - and three of birdiefu`s sticks.)

I will take pictures later.

(Did I mention I love these sticks???)

You have a very fine collection. This is what I like about Mei Fa's. They look so delicate and yet are amazingly sturdy. Not to say they are unbreakable - although I've never broken one - but they are not nearly as delicate as they look.

I love Mei Fas, especially that they are shorter sticks. Most really pretty sticks come in longer lengths, but I have always preferred less stick poking out. However, nowadays I do have to wear my Mei Fas in a compact circular bun, they are too short for my hair now for fig-8s, or complicated, "poofy" buns that eat up stick length.

Here are mine, also aged about as much as Trollkjerring's as they were from the GO long ago. I seem to have a problem of using the same ones, as half have not had the labels removed :o. Must remedy that and put them into rotation! And I have some pair halves missing and maybe some more floating around the house as my hairtoys are wont to do...:p These pictures don't do them justice, though - they are prettier in real life.

ETA: Another thing I love about them is whatever wire is used to put the pretties on is rock solid. Never have the top bend ever, even after my kids got a hold of them (usually not a good thing...).

Here is my Mei Fa collections -- and truly, with the right style, two of these will easily hold all of my hair... I have pairs of each, and they are far more glittery and bright than my camera is showing them to be!

The neutrals, sparklies and mixed metals:

And, the colours -- and neutral (to me!) beads!

How funny - I stopped using my Mei Fas way back when I found my first Ficcares (the Dolphin Clips) - I've had them put away to get rid of - maybe I'll have to revisit them since I'm letting my hair grow.

I remember always looking at Nordstrom for new Mei Fa designs - then I guess they stopped carrying them and I was hooked on the Ficcares so I didn't even notice.

HairBoutique has a section at the checkout where you can enter a promo code. When I ordered there was a 20% promo and free shipping on $50 purchases. RetailMeNot (http://www.retailmenot.com/view/hairboutique.com) lists the promo codes. They don't always have an active code, but most of the time they do.

Thank goodness I was able to go to bed last night without placing an order. Whew! In the light of day I'm reminded that I have enough Mei Fa for now and I really and truly have my eyes on other, more expensive items.

So, saving my pennies despite the fact that I really, really want a pair of red 'Lisben' and/or 'True' as well as a pair in purple 'Tripoli', 'Tobi', and/or 'Vankeo'. And I really wish the 'Lily' design would quit calling out to me!

I should know better than to open this thread!

Now you have me eyeballing them, despite not having any hair to hold up... I lost one of my 4" sticks, now I need another pair .... eventually. They are beautiful sticks.

I know this is a Mei Fa topic, but I found a etsy site with similar style sticks that are less expensive... I ordered hair pins from them and they are beautiful! It is todaysvintagedesigns.com. Check it out!

Can anyone tell me the lengths of the Mei Fa sticks, please?

I have 2 pairs, I'd like to know if they are what is called "shorties" (only good for half ups with my hair), because when I bought them there was just the one length available. Perhaps I can now get some slightly longer ones:D

My only pair of MeiFa sticks were bought at a shop in the early 1990s. My hair was short, but in my dreams I had long hair, so I bought them. :) I still have the little booklet that explains how to use them, and it is dated 1992.

Mine are black sticks with 2 amber flat round beads and one mottled brown square bead at the top. I have taken both sticks to my local jeweler to have them put back together - the little pin at the tip came loose - although the beads did not come off.

I love these sticks, they are my go-to sticks five days out of seven. One will hold an orchid bun all day long without loosening.

Thanks for showing pics, they're just lovely. ;) If I had a working camera I'd take a pic of mine...

That I don't mind so much. None of the stick shows in my buns. :p

No but really, the short length is one of the best things about Mei Fa's for me. They are long enough to hold round shaped buns, but short enough they don't stick out much if at all. That means I can lay on my side and they don't stab into the pillow. I can turn my head in the car without worrying about them hitting the head rest. And they never ever get caught in my nape hair below the bun. :inlove: Of course I like longer sticks too, but Mei Fa's definitely fill a niche in my hair stick collection.

The sticks themselves do not show much at all, even with my fine thin hair in its teeny tiny bun, so I'm not interested in more design or pattern on the sticks. This is a shape that works well for me, please don't change it, is my feeling. The toppers are attractive and the sticks are comfy - I want more, with other color toppers - maybe gold, silver, cloissonne beads.... drat, this is an *evil* thread! ;)

Mei Fa's are my favorite hair sticks because of the shorter lengths. They are just long enough to hold a bun without a lot of stick poking out. This is especially nice with buns that sit at the nape of my neck. :)

Ok... well I did receive my two Mei Fa Clam Shell hairsticks on Saturday. They arrived in a very secure, cute box which I didn't expect... However... Shaune Bazner shipping sent the wrong color hairstick!! They sent me brown hairsticks when I ordered the black shellack ones with the Clam shell topper. I emailed and called the company immediately and then resent a new email on Monday, but so far no response. I will keep this thread posted if I hear anything back. All I asked for was the correct color to be shipped to me and a return postage paid envelope since I should not have to pay for postage to do this. Yes, its only $5 on the shipping label (they charged me $8 dollars for shipping during the checkout) but it's the principal of the situation that they did not send me the correct color. I have very dark brown hair and black blends into my haircolor better which is why I ordered the black color on the hairsticks. I am furious right now, yes there are alot of other horrible situations to be upset about going on in this world rather then a frivolous color on a hairstick, but these are the first hairsticks that I have purchased in over a year and probably the last for several years. The total cost with the shipping came to $38 dollars!! Not cheap! Hope I hear from the service department at Shaune Bazner today!!! GAAAHHHHHHHH!! :steam

ETA Just got a response to my email. The company apologized for the detail mixup and is sending me the Clam Shell hairstyx in black and I will return the brown ones in the provided pre-paid shipping envelope. yay!! Hope I get them soon! ;)

ETA The correct black Clam Shell Hairstyx arrived in the mail yesterday and they are so beautiful!! I sent back the brown hairstyx. Funny thing is that the brown hairstyx were thinner and looked more fragile than the black ones! Anyways, all is resolved now. :cheer:
