I am thinking about just coloring my hair (as close to my natural color as I can get, I will be getting rid of this 2 tone that has turned into a 3 tone...But Im not sure I really want to I have worked so long (1 year) to grow out natural color from bleach, I figured it would look cool to have 30 in (or more, whatever it grows to) of brown hair plus 6 in of bleached ends, but then I went and screwed it up by using a vegatible dye color that promised to wash out 100%, and still hasent after almost 7 weeks. Dont worry I'm not going to run out and dye it tomorrow, I just wanted some imput. The red is still comming out when I shampoo, but looks awful (i think) right now. I dont know what to do (besides throw away all my remaining bottles of Manic Panic)...
what would you reccomend? ♥:cheese:♥

Have you tried all the things like EVOO soaks, baby shampoo/baking soda, honey lightening, etc? There's a bunch of nondamaging things like that that can help get color out of your hair.

Bleached hair does tend to really grab color, so it probably will be hard to get out. Purple Manic Panic lasted for months on my naturally blonde hair, but did come out eventually. I don't know what happens if you do conventional permanent color over veg dyes, I've never tried that.

how dark is your natural hair colour? if it's quite dark you could try doing a deposit-only dye (like Clairol Loving Care) every so often to try and cover the colour you're growing out without any damage - obviously do a strand test first in case you get a weird result! I've been doing this while growing out my lighter ends and have found it really easy - every 4 weeks or so I just do a top up and it helps a lot :)

I would recommend consulting stylists. If you can't afford to do so, or can't find a stylist willing to touch your hair for being to damaged (which may be a possibility), then go to Sally's and find a DEPOSIT ONLY color that's close to the shade of your natural haircolor. Clairol Jazzings is an example of a deposit only color, as is Manic Panic, and a few other things. Your best resource for this type of dye will be a Sally's if you can't get a professional to help you.

If you want to continue growing your length with as little hassle and irritation as possible, for the love of hair, do NOT use a box dye with ammonia, peroxide, etc. such as this (http://www.walgreens.com/store/product.jsp?CATID=100663&navAction=jump&navCount=1&nug=VPD&skuid=sku999503&id=prod999513). Any color that requires you to mix anything (developer, etc), will simply damage your hair more, and possibly require you to cut off the damage. If you're okay with this, then  go for it, but I'm warning you because the last time I bleached my hair then used Manic Panic, I used a two-step box dye to go back to my natural color later on because a colorist wouldn't touch it. By the time my hair got to BSL, I couldn't detangle it no matter how much conditioner in the world I used, and had to cut to chin length just to have managable hair.

Im not sure what your natural color is, but I say you go over the red with a brown color. it looks like your natural color is like a dirty blonde. I think you should just dye over it with as close to your natural color as possible. But that being said if your natural color is lighter you dont want to do that, cuz your hair will probably turn pink and it will damage it. People keep telling me about this color fix stuff i dont know how or if it work but maybe you could try that?

You could put a brown deposit-only dye like Manic Panic's Cobra (light brown) or Nefertiti (dark brown) depending on what shade of brown your hair is. This wouldn't mess with your natural colour so much. In fact, maybe you could just put it over the coloured part of the hair?

I love your colourful updo in your signature, by the way.

Did you use Manic Panic Temporary Hair Color Styling Gel? I have never used it, but I looked at the website and it looks so cool for amplifying my Halloween costumes. I don't want to try it though if it resists washing out. I would be putting it over natural hair, not bleached hair. (Wasn't sure if perhaps you used the semi-permanent formula) If it doesn't wash out in maybe 2 or 3 washes, then I don't want to try it...ideally one wash.

Who's going to bash? I do the exact same thing.

I've used Sally's Ion Shine with the lowest level developer I could (I believe 10 or 20 vol), I've used "brown" hennas, and I've used box dye. I'm dying my hair back to dark brown from the old faded stripped color and subsequent hennas. I had to do it a few times, periodically because it would fade and I'd be left with orangey length.....but this time it seems to have stuck. I haven't noticed much fade yet ;)

Do what you wanna/gotta do to be happy with your hair.

If you do a semi-permanent ashy brown dye over the bleached part, it will probably fade to some nice highlights. It worked for me. You could also leave it for longer. In my experience, vegetable dyes last a reaaally long time.

I never heard of an evoo soak, but I do put it on my hair every few days as part of my daily oiling...Baby shampoo...I almost bought some today but I cant figure out why it is supposed to be harsh enough to strip color yet so gental for babies hair (and eyes). I have used (MANY) other colors of MANIC PANIC and the color came out completly before

Have you had a consultation with a stylist who specializes in color at a reputable salon or two or three? Consultations are free. Take a list (or labels) of the colors you've used and go talk to as many different colorists as you can and see what they would propose. You never know, you might hit upon something that you like...

ETA: It's possible that the color is not washing/fading from your hair because of the prior bleach damage. Doesn't manic panic or something similar have a natural shade of color you could use? Brown? If not in the store, than something you could order online? A direct dye is the route I'd take, if the salon option is a no-go. Its not coming out of the natural colored hair either, truth be told even less then in the bleached hair

My natural color is ummm my mom used to call it dirty dishwater strawberry blonde...but I was 5 thenhttp://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll211/redneckprincess78/hair/l_ca18e866ec535e540471f009d4c33c6f.jpg, its somewhere between a really dark blonde and a light brown http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll211/redneckprincess78/hair/01209081253a.jpg the roots are my natural color, I decided not to go with color fix because it will change the color of the hair underneith

The color is stuck on the natural color hair also , even more so, thats still very red, the bleached parts have faded to ayellowish orangy color. ♥ you can even see that in my siggy from a few weeks and SEVERAL shampoos ago

I will try to add a picture soon of what it looks like now

It's hard to advise you. I think it's going to be exceedingly difficult to get all the different colors you have to blend. However, I have a feeling that the colors are going to continue to fade out over time, so perhaps give it another month or two before you decide about dyeing. The less color, the more likely you'll get a good result.

If it were me, I'd just grow it out and trim it off, disguising the color differences by using scarves and ribbons braided in or incorporated into bunning, headbands, and so forth.

A soak is just a really heavy oiling, like the hair completely coated, and left on overnight, then washed or CO'd out. Good for your hair, too. I don't think lighter oilings really pull much color.

Baby shampoo is really alkaline, as is baking soda; that's what causes it to pull color, also what makes it more mild to the eyes than more acidic normal shampoos. Mild acids are good for the hair but bad for the eyes. Baby shampoo is lousy for adult hair (but good for pulling color); maybe babies are just naturally oilier or something?

I decided not to go with color fix because it will change the color of the hair underneith

Actually, colorfix/coloroops doesn't affect natural hair color. The color change (bleaching) you see after using a product like that is it uncovering the bleaching that the original hairdye did before depositing its color :)

I just looked at your color fading album. It looks like your colors are fading pretty good. I have never used manic panic but did use lots of crazy colors back in the 80s during my punk/new wave faze so understand the draw and the fun. Just want to say happy growing and I like the idea of using scarves and ribbons and just going with the whole color thing like the advice from spidermom. It could be a whole flowergirl/bohemian look.

That's not it. The eye is more alkaline and baby shampoo is alkaline, too, so it doesn't burn the eyes. That is the selling point - won't burn baby's eyes. I think it likely dries out baby's hair and scalp, though. I've seen no shortage of babies with fluffy hair that stands on end with flakey-looking scalps, likely caused by the alkaline shampoo.

Just felt like saying my manic panic has finally almost faded after almost a year. Just let it grow out, perhaps do a gentle rinse with a little bit of it to hide any roots.(diluted.) Maybe a gentle semi permanent darker dye that is close to your natural hair color if you condition well after. I WOULD NOT suggest bleaching it out, as bleach damages my hair a lot, and well... Manic panic doesn't fade that much with bleach(I discovered with my armpits. I got gray that lingered as opposed to white.). CO washing is said to be stripping for dyes, and oiling your hair a lot will not help the dye stay. Also, wash with hot water(slightly damaging, but much less so than bleach.), after oiling, to keep the cuticle open and get the dye out. Then rinse with cold water to restore the hair's cuticle to close it. Just let it grow out, and feel free to cut off the damage as you can. Not having long hair as quickly, but having undamaged long hair is better than damaged long hair that looks like it needs to be cut(my brother's knee length hair... Goodness was it damaged! When he got it cut, it looked a lot better.), and it will feel better.

Strongly recommend you go to a professional. My daughter bleached/manic panic'ed her hair magenta/pink. It took alot to get rid of it. First they had to strip the pink. This took several applications of whatever it is they used. The process can be very damaging to hair so use care in selecting who does it. Luckily, my daughter's hair wasn't visibly damaged, however she had the stylist trim off the damaged parts.

It depends on your own, but for me i would cut all the bleached part. The bleached part will have to go eventually and it will never look as natural as your own hair. Besides i like short hair in some people, i had my own and everyone seamed to like it. Then i would let it grow

A few years ago I accidently removed most of a semi permanent hair colour by giving my hair a good long soak in a really basic, inexpensive, protien and chemcial conditioning hair masque. Hair grabs colour in different ways, but if you've tried deep soaking already I'd go to colour specialist and see what they think. :)

I color my hair...I recently colored the underside a blue black. My boss has her hair about shoulder length and with layers and the black underneath. I really liked it. My hair is to my tailbone, natural reddish, brownish with blonde and silver but with the blue black on the underneath. I like it...not a lot of people notice it, but it is your hair, color it pink if you like!! Why not!!! Life is too short to take everything so seriously...

I thought baby shampoo had something to do with preventing cradle cap or is it crap? I don't know. Thought I read that somewhere.

RNP - I just saw your "fading" album and you've lost a ton of color! I was still picturing the color of your siggy. You are definitely on your way. :)
Thank you, I bought some baby shampoo today and I will try tomorrow to use it.

I havent tried the CO only because I can visibaly see the removal of the color in each shampoo, once I get all-most of this color out I plan to do more CO washes

I have decided not to color over or do anything rationally or chemecally. I plan to give it the summer to fade completly, before I do anything about it... ♥ Thanks all for your imput... keep watching my color album for updates every so often on the fading process if you get that bored, and want to, lol ♥

Is there an Aveda salon or school nearby?
Aveda products are all natural and the one time I got highlights there, it took hours to lift my brown (we were going fire engine red) which said to me it was a very mild color lifter.
Actual dye to turn something darker is probably gentler still.

I highly recommend Aveda schools/institutes. It may "only" be a student, but they seem to me to be more careful and your charge is for product, not actual service.

I have no idea whether or not this would work, but it can't hurt to try it, as it's temporary. Have you thought about trying a rinse of some sort? Nightshade has an excellent article (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=2) on colouring hair with herbs and, while something like the walnut hull rinse would not give you one single colour, it might help the different colours blend with each other more, because they'd end up as varying shades of brown rather than varying colours.

I know you've said you don't want to do anything rash and you'll wait till the end of the summer, but that's just something you might want to try by the end of the summer if there's still some vestigial colour.

I bleached my hair for 5 years and wanted to stop it because of the damage and the fact I didn't want to color my hair anymore. So I went to the salon and got a permanent hair dye which was a little bit darker than my natural (ashy brown) color and I haven't colored my hair since! Yes, it faded a little bit but it looked like I had some blonde highlights and was able to grow out the bleach with the help of regular trims. Now my hair is all natural and I love it!:)
