My hair is 2C but I would say a "fragile" 2C in that I definitely get some spiraling and small-sized waves going on when it first dries, but my hair will quickly straighten with time and combing. I live in a dry climate, which doesn't support my waves, either. Here are some shots of my length progression (all shots with freshly-air-dried hair):

Here's my latest length shot from earlier in the month. It's after the shower, slightly damp, and combed out (since I braid it and put it up), so really the curls just peek out at the bottom. There's another picture in my album from last March when I actually wore it down.

I wash with clarifying shampoo, use Aubrey Organics or Burt's Bees cone and protein free conditioners, and use Aubrey Organics B5 Design Gel for my leave in.

Oils aren't great for me unless I over-apply as a deep treatment.

I have to take some pics that show my curl, most of my length shots are 2nd day hair and it looks straighter from the back.. I actually have a ton of spirals.

This sounds like mine. Even likes the same stuff, although I haven't tried the Nature's Gate shampoo.

I wash mine about once a week, and then only the scalp, otherwise it gets too fly-away.

Forgot to mention, LOVE your color!

aww, thanks kina! It's taken me a long time to come to grips with my natural coloring - I used to think I looked mousy or washed out when my hair wasn't either bleached platinum or dyed a deep red or auburn.

I wish I could go a whole week without washing my scalp! I've tried and tried and tried all sorts of different care routines, and honestly what works best for my hair is washing it every three days, concentrating the 'poo on the scalp and the conditioner on the measly length. Limiting the amount of contact helps too - if I run fingers through my hair or itch my scalp, my hair looks greasy a day faster.

I just henna'd my hair and it didn't seem to loosen the curl much, which I had thought about beforehand. Here's a photo of it damp - it curls more as it dries :)

Okay here's mine from today but it was way curlier. I used a ton of Potion 9 and it was too stiff, I couldn't even run my hands through it. I ended up combing it out so some of the curl has been pulled out. I'll see if I can get a better curly pic later this week.

I've been wanting to post on this thread since I cam across it in January. First my hair was to short and then I had to figure out how to load pic's. In any case, I finally got some pic's of my 2c/3a hair in my album. The longer it gets the curlier it is. Love it!

Not entirely sure which, cause my curls are wimpy and fall out if you look them funny (if I can even make them form) but my hair only ever does spirals- never s-waves. *shrug*

LOVE this thread! I'm glad I stumbled about it. I am LOVING the pics and I'm finding them VERY inspiring. I was having such a bad hair day yesterday, dealing with shoulder length fine hair, can't decided whether to treat it as curly or as wavy or what. Oh, I've never seen this thread! Such beautiful curls!! My hair when air dried without touching at all is 2b/2c in the back with a few "full spirals" and 3b ish in the front (bangs). I guess my bangs just need some weight, I'm growing them out. Because of this variation I call myself 2c/3a.

Combing wet is beneficial for me, and I can't stand not touch my hair, if it's down... fingers will go through (it helps not tangle). What I'm saying is..I'm a curly without curls, just combing makes my hair straightish. The curls here are beautiful, but the not touching routine isn't for me, so I end up with 2b waves on a daily basis. So my hair doesn't really look like the heads on this thread.

Lianna you sound EXACTLY like me. I was looking at my hair today after I brushed with a bbb (which I just love!) and I had maybe 2a hair. If I don't brush at all I've got some 3b in there as well. And the longer it approaches APL, the more 3b I have. But I like my brush and I like playing with my hair. So too bad for CG.

What do you ladies use to style? I'm pretty happy with my hair, and it's mainly in updos right now, but I mainly use Kinky Curly Curlying Custard. However, It's a little pricey, and I'm trying to switch to FSG. I would be all for the cooking and storing if it weren't for the snot texture. It's just so difficult to work with. I have seen people talk about pectin/xantham gum/arrowroot powder/etc., but do they just thicken, or do any change the texture of the gel? I would love it if it was more slimmy/globby/gel-like (like KCCC) than egg white/snot-like.

Also, I'm considering experimenting with a bit of aloe gel, although I wonder if it would add any hold? Oh, and I have also mixed agave nectar with my conditioner as a leave in and that had a nice enough hold. I really only need a medium-light hold just to keep everything in its place all day...Although you learn not to expect order from curls :D

We even have similar screen names, Alyanna! :D I did another "hair type wash and dry" yesterday, and from my roots to my eyes there were 3 spirals in my bangs, that's the curliest I get, but I usually brush my bangs.

Lollipop, aloe vera gel has a medium to light hold, I think you'll like it! I use it sometimes when I want more curl in my ends, but latetly I've been using just the vatika oil as leave-in. Your avatar looks stunning, by the way!

It needs some blending done with the back and sides because he keeps taking the clippers to them in the middle of the night when he grows frustrated with them. I'll get to it soon I hope! It's gotten quite a bit longer since then, so the curls have stretched out somewhat. Also, I've been damp-bunning to straighten it lately, since I like to shower at night. Wet hair let free at night does not work for my hair texture.

I have combo hair that changes with the mood, weather, and how I'm treating it. Naturally and not repeatedly brushed, my hair is quite happily 2c. Add some good weather and health to it and on a really good day I'm in the 3a zone. But some days if I've had it up in a bun or something, brushed it out, or if the weather just isn't right, it just gets wavy.

But because my hair doesn't look like it's 3a that frequently, I go with 2b-2c.
