My roots having been coming in dark brown.(rest of hair 2" from roots were a hennaed red)
To get a all brown color I bought "dark brown" henna..barely touched the red.One leap..
thinking to get my hair ALL in one color I got.(Going to feel peaple cringe) Godrej dye in
"dark brown" (powdered..you add water to make it to be liquid)Well.......it turn BLACK..
Blackest of all black with blue in it.At first I thaught nothing of it..it would fade and get
brown.Um..it never did.:( Its been 2 weeks since Iv done it.Iv first tried the baking soda
with cheap shampoo deal.Tons on the blue came out...then went to do 3 honey treatments.
(natural honey) barely touched the rest of the color. So right now Im racking my brains and
feeling STUPID and EMBARRASSED.

Would a 20v cream developer lift the color by 1-2 shades?
(I looked at the thread "10v perioxide prehenna lightening")

Any info would be great! This color does not look good on pale
marshmallow white skin.

Have you considered ColorFix or ColorOops? If what you used wasn't a direct dye it should help a lot! You can pick up ColorOops at Walgreens for under $10.

I've used ColorFix (pretty much the same thing) and it pulled black streaks out of my hair without any damage, just a bit of dryness that went away with some deep conditioning.

If the dye you used was permanent it may have had lightening agents in it, even though it was a dark color.

Here's my strand test for ColorFix- you can see the deep blackish reddish color it was, and the light color that was left behind afterwards. (I only tested the top half, so the bottom color was the unColorFixed part).

Old Lock ColorFix- Here's an old lock of my hair that I found and used in my colorfix testing. This lock was chemical dye only, no henna. You can see a few things here:

1- The colorfix removed the black and burgundy dye completly.

2- The permanent hair colors I had been using bleached my hair to blonde under the dyes.

Yowch! :grouphug:

My two cents at this stage would be to go see a professional, if you know of one that you can trust. Explain that you want your hair color similar, at least, to your natural color--but fertheluv, mention specifically that you have hennaed. Depending on the quality of the henna, an ammonia-based developer could react extremely badly with the henna. You'll certainly want to do a swatch test to see what happens.

You will want a professional who has been practicing for some time and who understands about henna--ie, not just a "all henna is bad" mentality but an understanding of the chemical basis for your concerns and a willingness to work with you to achieve your hair goal.

If that isn't an option, read up on here about those who've managed to lift henna. I seem to recall that there is an article in our articles section written by a gal who did this. Again, strand test strand test strand test! If your henna contained certain salts and they react poorly with the developer, it will not. be. pretty.

Another thing that sprang to mind is whether the brown henna mix (I assume this was a henna-indigo mix??) was on long enough? You might give that another try--or maintain your roots with more red henna.

Good luck! :flowers:

Godrej dye - is that PPD chemical hair dye or is that some form of Indigo? If it's Indigo, or Indigo with additives, than DO NOT try to bleach it and DO NOT use color oops or color fix or any other hair color remover on it, without testing it on a hair strand. You may turn your hair blue or you may just melt it all off.

I have no suggestions... since I don't know what that product is... sorry this happened though. I can understand how it feels. :(

Gah! This ^^^^

I utterly misread- I thought you had just dyed over straight henna, I missed the part where you used "brown henna" before trying the dye!

Godrej henna has ppd in it its not pure henna so be careful. Do these dyes like this do they cause damage to hair???

If it's dye and indigo/henna than that means it's some kind of compound formula and thus, it will probably do damage if any other chemical comes in contact with it. :(

Oh, no. I am sorry to hear this... Is there any safe way to lift color? I thought there is none other than just trimming off as hair grows. I hope I am wrong.

:) Thanks for the hugs and care! Man..I so need it! :) Cant believe I goofed up
so bad.

I ment to add used regular red henna for 6 or so years ,when I noticed
the dark roots I thought to try dark henna to get a all even color.
Dark brown henna ingredients-

74% Lawsonia inermis
15% Indigo
3% Rhubarb
5% Centaurea
1% Litmus
2% Lichen

Left it on head for 1 whole hour.3 weeks later used Godrej Dark Brown.
Dont see any ingredients but one thing.(Beautiful east indian lady at the store said
it would make my hair dark coffee brown)..side of the box

"Para-phenylenediamine content not more than 3% after dilution as
per instructions and at the time of application."

I used 6 boxes of the stuff for my head.(Each box has 3 packets) For 30 min.

From what others have said, Godrej is a compound henna & indigo, i.e. with PPD. So any chemicals are likely to be a mistake, especially bleach. :scared:I'm not saying this because I'm one of the purist "chemical dyes are bad" crowd - god knows I've used enough of them, and swapped between chemicals/bleach and henna! It's just that the reason hairdressers generally won't dye over "henna'ed" hair, despite it's normally being OK to do so, is because chemical dyes plus compound henna = ruined hair and possible lawsuit.

One thing worth trying to lift excess colour is olive oil. Soak hair in olive oil, sleep on it, wash it out in the morning. It sometimes works, plus it's also good for your hair. Honey lightening might help too, there's a huge thread on here if you do a search for it. The results may not be that efficient but they may work somewhat. Good luck! :flowers:

You could try 1 part honey, 1 part baby shampoo. Work it in, leave it sit for half an hour and rinse with hot water :) It's worked on my mom's hair when the dye goes too dark, and shouldn't react with the indigo.

I heard of a rubbing alcohol/mineral oil to lift unwanted color.

take some %99 rubbing alcohol and saturate your hair with it (avoid scalp if possible) then take some mineral oil and saturate your hair with that.

then dab some clarifying shampoo on (you'll want a fate one for this...) and wash. after a few washes it should be gone...

Oil your hair and baby it after this though...it won't be pretty....but I heard it works

This doesn't work, it's a myth. :(

I also vote for hot oil deep treatments (i.e. overnight oiling) a lot of them in addition to harsher shampoo sets.

Indigo is not PPD, for what it's worth, though most commercial 'black henna', especially brands from India or China, are PPD... (henna artist here)

I feel for you hun! Are you a natural red head?? I got my underneath part dyed what was supposed t be a dark brownish red for a two toned look and it came out purplish black. I thought and was told by everyone it will fade it will fade and i argued how would purplish black fade to the right color?? Ya well it never did I am still stuck with it. I am in the smame boat as you. I dont want to put anymore chemicals in my hair. I will be watcing this thread and hoping for a miracle lol. I have heard of like toners that are supposed to like get it to the right color but i havent tried them. I think its the red hair, its rare and apparently hard to color. I think we both should go to like a red head color specialist or something lol!!

Right, but this brand lists PPD in the ingredients... according to what the OP posted.

ETA: nevermind, Heavenly Locks covered this...
