View Full Version : Can Anyone Help Me Type My Hair?

I didn't want to start a new thread for this, but my old thread seemed to go unnoticed. :(

I've always been a 1a with very straight, won't even perm hair. Lately I've noticed spirals in my hair when I wash, which made me realize my hair must have changed. I did the whole "drip dry no touchy touchy" thing and this is what I came up with:

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=2777&pictureid=39775

And honestly, I'm a bit stumped as to how to classify this. Maybe I'm too used to thinking of my hair as straight. I'd appreciate any opinions. :)

Difficult - it looks most like 1C to me, but you've got a few spirals that would put you at 2C if you had more wave. Since the spirals appear to straighten after you comb (going by the sig pic), I'd say the appearance is more 1C.

Sorry about the old thread there! :(

I'm a bit stumped too! You definitely look wavier than the 1c's on the visual hairtyping site (http://homepage.mac.com/annsofie.henriksson/hairtyping/PhotoAlbum19.html). Your hair reminds me a bit of PurpleBubba's; he has a faint hint of curl on the ends too, but not nearly what I see for the 2b (http://homepage.mac.com/annsofie.henriksson/hairtyping/PhotoAlbum21.html)'s or 2c (http://homepage.mac.com/annsofie.henriksson/hairtyping/PhotoAlbum22.html)'s. I agree that you look like a 1c after you comb, but I'd say 2a for your hair typing pic.

I'm a little stumped too. It looks like the slight waves in your hair in that pictures would be combed out really easily and might just be a result of laying weird while it was drying or something. I want to say either 1a or 1c, so I guess I'd have to go with in between, 1b.

Either 2a or 1c, I think.

This is how I'd decide: if you comb it out gently, do those long, lazy spirals look like loose flowing s-waves (2a), or do they disappear into mostly straight strands, but with a mind of their own, insisting on forming into the odd bump or kink here and there(1c)?

Either way, fantastic hair you have. Great condition, and I love that soft brown.

I'd say you're a 2A as well.

I vote 1c/2a . . . but what do I know, lol!:cheese:

Leave it up to my hair to be difficult! :p

That's what I was thinking, too. :)

I can see that, but I was careful and my hair wasn't laying weird. If anything, it straightened a bit from when it was wet. It does straighten a bit when I comb it, mostly if I comb it wet, though. It's weird, though, huh? :p

Thank you!!! :flower:

That's a great suggestion! They look more like loose flowing s-waves. If I comb it when wet, though, it will straighten. I haven't let my hair just air dry like this in a long time, though. I usually comb it out and braid it, so I hadn't seen it do this...

My hair has been fluffier this time. I think I'll let it dry without combing more often. :p

I'd say you're a 2A as well.

After thinking it through and reading everyone's suggestions, I'd have to agree.

I've been looking at the picture and I've noticed that there are stronger waves from crown to shoulders. Also I am getting some spirals along my hairline in my wisps. I think I may have caught my hair in the process of changing textures! :suspect:

Now I'm interested to see what it will do next! :joy:

Lol! You posted while I was replying! I think you are pretty much right there with everyone else. :p

I'm gonna go with 2a, at least for now, if for no other reason than I always wanted wavy or curly hair! :rolling:

Congratulations, fellow wavy! :joy:

You can always try scrunching your hair! It gets extra water out while enhancing waves instead of straightening them. Of course, the results depend on the particular head of hair, so you'd have to try it to know if you like the results!

And don't worry - now that you have waves, you'll NEVER know what it'll do next! :silly:

Wow, look at all those waves that came out. It looks great. That's amazing you started at 1a.

2a sounds good to me.

Yay! Thanks!!! :cheese:

I think I know how to scrunch, after looking around today, but are there instructions somewhere on this site? I tried a search. I'm such a curl nooblet! :p

Hooray for adventure! :cheese:

I'm really surprised it's doing this! I think it took me so long to notice because I just expect my hair to be straight. The irony is that I've wanted curls my whole life. I've permed, I've used hot rollers, I've used sponge rollers, I've done whatever I could, with little to no success and instant failure in humidity. Finally I decided that straight hair is ok and came to accept it for what it was and now it springs this on me! :p

I got a couple of shots of those little wisp curls I was talking about. These will be great for a Victorian bun:

I know it's already been decided but I just wanted to agree with 2a. My hair is 2a and my wurly curls around my neck even look like yours and my length has the same loose S waves.

Welcome to waviedom!!! It's nice here. :D

Those little ringlets near your neck are exactly what my hair does as well. I wind up pulling a few out of updo's just because I like them. BTW, a little misting helps them along if they start out too straight.

Are you using cones? They've been known to straighten hair out, and if you go cone free for a wash, you may end up with waaaay more wave, judging by the ends. If you already are, I'm slightly stumped. xD;

 There's a big thread about scrunching here (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=24849). YouTube has a bunch of videos, too. The basic idea, as I'm sure you've figured out, is to squash the hair upwards from the ends towards the roots.

Ooo, thanks. I'll have to get a mister! :cheese:

No, no cones here! I'm using Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut for co washing.

That might be why I never noticed the curls and waves before recently though. I only switched to cone free about two months ago, maybe, after joining here and learning a bit (or a lot, lol!) The photos where my hair is pretty straight I was using a coney conditioner and J & J baby shampoo. After that I switched to Avalon Organics and noticed my hair seemed to plump up and frizz a bit and I was wondering why I had braid waves even when I braided my hair dry! I never did do a clarifying wash, though. I wonder if that would make a difference...? :hmm:

Ok, yeah, I did figure that out! I was confused because I read something where someone stated they scrunched their hair and pinned it up, so I was wondering if that was part of it. :p

Thanks for the thread link. That should come in handy. :)
