I did search a bit for this but didn't see exactly what I was looking for, so forgive me if there is a thread on this already.
I have to pull my hair back for work (I'm a server) and since it's also an excuse to do protective styling, I'm fine with it. But I fell into a serious rut wearing the same bun style all winter. So lately I've been looking for different ideas. Well, that and I simply like a pretty updo. :crush: Any length or hair type is fine, I can find ways to adapt a style or just admire it and wait patiently to have enough hair to replicate the style.
Come show off your skills! :D

I worked as a waitress last summer, and wore a home made hair lacer most days. It worked great -kept my hair out of the food and looked really nice, too.

Ok, so I don't know how intricate you're looking to be so i'm just gonna post a few of my fav's....
This one was actually all done with a topsy tail. I topsy tailed a single ponytale then split the ponytail and wove them throught the opposite sides of the hair until they were all hidden.

This one is just a plain old Snood.
http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc224/Dementia1013/IMG_0292.jpg
This one was woven piggies. Obviously I needed to re-dye my hair... lol.
http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc224/Dementia1013/IMG_0316.jpg
This one I call "Renfaire nightmare" I started out with two 3 strand french braids that met the middle and were twisted into a cinnamon bun with a two little bits left on either side to make accent braids.
http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc224/Dementia1013/IMG_0328.jpg
This one is a half up half down thing again with two 3 strand french braids that meet and form a single rope braid. Again two bits left for accent braids, though mine are too big and long...

This is a basic braided chinese bun around a tibetan decorative hair ornament.
http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc224/Dementia1013/IMG_0122.jpg
This is just a pinless bun, but if done right can keep your hair up and is no fuss.
http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc224/Dementia1013/thIMG_0026.jpg
And this one is a tucked 5 strand braid. AKA Beaver's tail.
http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc224/Dementia1013/IMG_0341-3.jpg
This one is basic rose bun pushed to the side to allow the butterfly accent room.

Hopefully AprilElf will post here. I saw in the 'wear all your hairtoys' thread some awesome updos that she makes. :D

Oh my god, your hair is so beautiful! I love your updos. I love butterflies, too, but was thinking that I might be too old for them. But seeing your hair, I just can't resist. Off to buy one!

Hi ladylibra! Welcome to LHC. :)
One of my favourite ways of jazzing up an updo you're becoming bored of is to make it from a braid (regular or rope braid). For example, a Figure-8 from a braid, or a Chinese Braided Bun from two rope braids.
Flipped buns are also really neat. Search for Hypnotica's video tutorials. Try a Flipped Rose Bun - that's one I recently re-discovered. ;)
The Hair Game thread (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=14380) has heaps of different styles. It's a fairly long thread, but there's a sort of 'index' here (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showpost.php?p=424164) - where participants have listed the styles they've done with links to instructions and pictures.
(Here's the link to my '30 Updo Challenge Review (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/blog.php?b=6818)' blog entry which has links to updo instructions. You'll need to get to 25 posts to be able to view that. )
Check out the Hair Style Dictionary (http://hairstyledictionary.ztn.net/) too - it's a great resource, created by our members Samikha and ChatoyantLocks.
Beautiful styles, Dementia! :D
