I caught this on Showtime the other day and I fell in love with Laura Linney's hairstyle for her anniversary date. If anyone's seen the movie, they know what I'm talking about. Below are the best pictures I could find of it.

Anyone have any ideas how she did it? It's very pretty and elegant, and looks like just a bit of wrapping.

Its a crummy pic, but you can see the style in the mirror's reflection.

Here's another:

Sorry, these were the best images Google had to offer. I couldn't find any of the back, other than the little reflection above. Has anyone seen this that can help?

Hmmm...hard to tell. It kind of looks like she just twisted it and pinned it in place.

From the mirror's reflection, it looks like a rope braid that's twisted up and pinned. But the other two pics look more like a fig-8.

I agree, it's hard to tell.

BTW, was it a good movie? I really liked the book, but I heard the film version wasn't all that great and that they messed with the plot too much by trying to make it into a comedy.

Honestly I only saw about 20 minutes of it. Looked interesting enough for me to want to catch it from the beginning though :)

Fair enough. Well, I can recommend the book anyway. :D

All I can tell is that from the second picture, the front hair is swept down separately from the main/back hair, so it's far from tugged back and twisted. (The flow of hair goes is two different ways.)

I'd like to know more, too.

Does anyone remember her hairstyle during the birthday party scene? She wears a chinese style dress and her hair looks very intricate with a thick braid and a sort of bun on top. Sorry I don't have any pictures but I remember they showed the back of her head clearly a few times.

ETA: I found a picture from the side:

I'm no updo genius so have no great ideas about the hairstyle but I agree it looks like it's been twisted upwards and maybe wrapped round itself. It might be hair pieces though because from what I remember her hair isn't that long in the rest of the film, hmm...

I really liked the film! I haven't read the book though so have no idea how different it might be

I do something like the first style by brushing my hair round to one side of the nape, then twisting it into a cinnabun and pinning with two or three hair scroos. It's messier on my hair, because I don't use products, but it's a lovely way to have a bun/updo that's softened, as it were.

Looks like she did a side part, then bunned the hair at the nape. The bun may be an infinity or a figure-8, or just a plain loose bun.

Oh, and the picture in which she is wearing a shorter greenish dress has a different hairdo (a folded braid starting with a high half-up).
