I read somewhere that amla makes a great facial and I have a good sized amount left over since I only use a teaspoon with my hendigo mix. So how do I do this? Make a paste and apply it to my face? What is it supposed to do? Any other uses for amla? Thanks.

Yes, make a paste & apply. It has a toning, slightly drying effect. good for people w/ greasy skin, clumped pores, or acne/spots. dont leave it on for too long - it will burn a little. i'd say, 15 minutes tops. also, if you have freckles and want to keep them, dont put amla over them - it supposedly erases them (not radically, i guess, but it's better to be cautious). we discussed in another thread that amla paste is good to put on a spot and leave it overnight.

I used to do amla masks all the time. Actually, I loved what it did to my skin - it really tightens your skin and it does erase age spots or any dark spots over time - I think by actually taking off the top layer of your skin!

It definitely does make your skin red after you wash it off - but it will go away in 30 minutes or so - I think this is because the blood has all come to the surface similar to a clay mask.

I also would use it as a scrub - just mix it with water and scrub - or wet your face and add some powder and scrub. Just be gentle because it is pretty abrasive even if it doesn't feel like it.

I stopped because on me the extreme pore tightening effect eventually caused me to get cystic pimples. But I loved the effects and I still do a mask whenever my face needs an overhaul :)

Thanks so much! I have about 300 grams (a good 2 cups) so will try the facial. My skin is oily so will not dry it out much. Appreciate the responses.

Hey Ratgirl, what do cystic pimples look like? are those the ones under the skin, the really hurting type?

Yes. Mine didn't really hurt though - but they did hurt if I tried to squeeze them.
I think they were caused by the amla making my pores so tight. Whenever I would try to use the amla powder as a daily or even every few day exfoliant I would get them which sucks because the amla really worked great other than that.

I would say make sure that you apply it to a clean face - I just use too many oils and it was probably locking them into my pores ;) IMO anyway
