Where are the directions for the figure 8 on the site now? I see the chinese bun, infinity etc, in hair styling in the articles section, but no figure 8. I read them at the old LHC, but I wanted to try it now.
Thanks!

I don't know if they've been posted elsewhere. My hair's still too thick to be able to do a figure 8 with all my length anyway but I can manage a fairly decent half-up figure 8. You just start out by making a regular bee butt bun, then take the first coil on top and sort of "fold" it upward (or down, depending on how high you placed the original bun and what's easier for you, for some reason I find one it's easier to flip it upward but I have issues if I try to flip it downward.) then secure it. You do the infinity bun the same way but "folding" over the top coil to the left or right, instead. Hope that helps! :flower:

My hair probably isn't long enough for it yet, but I thought I'd like to try it. I don't recall how to make a bee butt bun either, I'm hopeless. LOL

LOL well it can't hurt to try, and if you can't get a figure 8 with all your hair try a half-up instead. That's what I've done with mine and it works pretty well, and it gives me some practice so I know what I'm doing once I have enough length to put all my hair into a figure 8. My avatar shows a half-up figure 8. A somewhat lopsided one, but it's still there and completed.

For the bee but bun you just start the same way for a cinnamon bun; gather your hair into a pony without securing it, and then start twisting and wrapping around. The difference is you place each coil underneath the previous one, so it kind of sticks out rather than lying flat against your head. If that makes any sense. I'm not usually very good at explaining things. (My boyfriend teases me all the time when I try to explain things to him and I say things like "You put that thiny next to the other gizmo thingy.")

Thanks for the simple instructions. I just tried it and my hair is in a sloppy vertical figure 8 with only a single stick holding it in place. I am sure it helps that my hair is dirty, but I am still excited to have another option for wearing my hair up!

I understand the bee butt bun, but I still dont understand how to do a figure 8.

yogachick, I will try to take some pictures of the process later and maybe that will help. Unless someone else already has some and chimes in before I get a chance to do it.

That would be great! Thanks!

I am still confused on the figure 8 and the infinity. My hair is about 2" above waist length and 2aFii and I always get little "sprigs" sticking out. When I try a french twist I have too much length and the ends stick out at the bottom. Please help.
Thanks in advance,

strawberryfine2, I think the little bits that stick out often make an updo look more whimsical/cute so I don't mind them myself. But you could try slipping a couple bobby pins in to hold them in if they bother you, and once they're a little longer you won't have to worry about it because they'll tuck right into the 'do.

Here are some pics (all clickable) of the process. This was not one of my better efforts at the style, but I was watching a hockey game while doing it so I was distracted. LOL I can only do a half-up figure 8 right now (hair's too thick to put all of it up) so just a half-up.

1. Gather your hair like you're making a pony tail but don't secure it. Twist the hair and wrap it into a bee butt bun.

2. Find the top coil of the bun, and pull it up and away from the rest of the bun and "fold" it down against your head. (Like I said before, you could also "fold" it downward if that's easier for you, or to the left or right for infinity bun.) Secure it in place and you're done!

You can simply make an Infinity Bun, but flip the second coil vertically instead of horizontally.

Thank you feisty redhead for the photos and directions. I appreciate it. My hair is too short, even for a half-up. I will be impatiently waiting until the day I can do a full updo of a figure 8, I think they are very pretty. Here's my photo of my first trys at a figure 8.

Thanks for the pics and directions. Maybe my hair isn't quite long enough - but I am assuming I am just supposed to tuck the end in after I flip it?

Very nice! Looks a little like my first attempts too. (picture here (http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff265/lips_of_an_angel_photos/1316b30a.jpg)) It also looks like you only need a little more length to be able to finish it off. I personally like the little bits that stick out - though that's just me and I have a fondness for "messy" styles. :D

Any time I have any stray bits left over I tuck them in if they're long enough to tuck in - otherwise I just leave them there. Like I said, I don't mind "messy" styles so it doesn't bother me to leave them out. :silly:

I used a bobby pin, could only find one, and well, I just couldn't get those ends to stay tucked, they are quite wild in the photo. LOL

And its funny, my hair seems to have a reddish tint to it. My daughters have a golden tint to theirs.
