What are you going to do with it? As in - food or hair?

I do not have any experience with this product, but I've always been of the opinion that as long as the vinegar does not offer any objectionable smell or thickness, it should be fine.

I use white vinegar quite regularly and have never used ACV. The smell of white doesn't bother me. I think the only reason to use ACV in particular is because people tend to like the smell better. In a pinch, I'm sure I could use red wine or rice with no problems. I wouldn't use balsamic, because it can be so evaporated and thick and syrupy.

Is it really made from fermented coconut wine of some kind, or is it just white vinegar infused with coconut? Is it syrupy, sweet or thick?

I keep considering trying it for my hair since I have some in the pantry, but I haven't. I'd be interested to hear how it works for you.

Spidermom....I was thinking hair, but am also thinking food after reading about how healthy it is.....though for food i have no ideas what to do with it....i'm imagining it might be a bit weird with a bag of chips ;)

Riot Crrl.....from what i remember it's made from the sap of the coconut tree i think.....it's definately made from coconut as opposed to just flavoured.
Normally if i use vinegar it's ACV but as the coconut vinegar was there in the shop i thought "oooh thyat might be fun!". I keep meaning to try red wine vinegar too for my henna....another member was telling me that in an experiment she did that produced a brighter red result.

Jesamyn.....how about we both give it a go? :p
I'll definately ley you know how it turns out though :)

Ya know, that's not a bad idea. I planned to henna tomorrow, so I'm not sure how much of a real idea I'll get about what it does for my hair until trying it a few days post-henna.

Coconut vinegar is made from coconut tree sap or coconut water (not water plus coconut). It's supposed to be sweeter than many vinegars, and is used in various Asian cuisines. I've found it excellent in cooking for cutting sweetness in a non-Asian dish, though I can't remember what dish now. It's also supposed to contain a variety of vitamins and minerals.

Ooooh i was actually thinking of doing my henna today and thought i should leave it a few days before trying this or the Ghee experiment i was planning too.

My pleasure. :) I slept way longer than normal last night, so last night's henna demised. Now I'm toying with the idea of using the coconut vinegar for dye release. (I don't use straight vinegar, just a little and the rest water.) Of course, I'm also toying with the idea of using catnip tea, which should also be acidic.

I have never heard of it but coconut vinegar sounds appealing and it could work for hair too since both coconut oil and vinegar are supposed to be good.

Sorry for bringing up this ancient thread but I was curious about coconut vinegar instead of ACV and this seemed to be the only thread I could find, and I didn't want to start a new one. Has anyone used coconut vinegar instead of ACV? I'm thinking about trying it. I oil my hair 2x a week and while my shampoo is usually enough, I find I do have to clarify every once in a while and have heard of people using ACV. I don't want to use any harsh shampoos (or spend money on them for that matter) and was looking up ways to get gunk off your hair while still being gentle. Lots of people said ACV, and I've tried that but I saw a post on coconut vinegar and it made me curious.

I'm very curious about coconut vinegar too. :) I love using coconut water/juice in my final rinse, because its ph is so close to hair's natural ph, and I sometimes add a teaspoon of vinegar to coconut water with good results.

TheHowlingWolf, some people use ascorbic acid in their rinses (dubbed "miracle water" - http://archive.longhaircommunity.com/archive/index.php/t-53388.html) or club soda (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=78125) to chelate, but I can't vouch for it personally. And you don't need to buy another product to clarify, just a simple SLS shampoo is usually enough.

I've tried it, and the rest of the bottle ended up going on salad because even though it's coconut vinegar, it's still vinegar, which I have come to realize I don't like on my hair :). But if you like apple cider vinegar, coconut vinegar is a fun alternative. Like apple cider vinegar, it will help remove mineral deposits from hard water, but not hair product build up/ residue, so I don't think it would help with oil removal. Wouldn't hurt to try, though. If you end up not liking it for your hair, it's delicious on salad.

i used to use coconut vinegar and it is great, much better than acv for my hair (acv makes my hair frizzy), but i normally use white vinegar these days cos its cheaper. you can buy coconut vinegar from some asian grocery shops
