I got the idea of making an article listing the different holidays and events for different countries and then listing ideas for dressing your hair up. The idea popped up at st. Patrick’s day actually…

I haven’t listed all the holidays where I couldn’t find a specific date. As in the “celebrated somewhere in so-and-so month” and “the festival is held the 14th night of the seventh lunar month” events are not listed here

I’m looking for questions, comments and suggestions of all kinds

Many of today's Halloween traditions go back to the time of the Celtic people. On October 31, their New Year's Eve, the Celtic herders would gather with the rest of the Druids, to honour their chief god known as the Samhain. If the Celts had to go outside on the feast of Samhain, they felt it was best to go disguised, so that the spirits would not recognize them. This is how the tradition of dressing up for Halloween came about

June 6th is D-Day. It's always on the news, and bit like November 11th. That could be another military symbol day?

Aww you put in St David's Day. Another suggestion for that would be for colours: Red for the dragon, or red, green and white like the flag.

You've done such a comprehensive list I can't think of much else! What a lot of work this must have been.

These are several Japanese holidays I can think of right now. They are age specific, though.

November 15th
Shichi-Go-San (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shichi-Go-San) Girls aged 3 or 7 usually wear Tsumami Kanzashi (Chirimen fabric flowers) and/or Gin Bira Kanzashi (kanzashi with many silver thin plates).
Nice pictures at flickr (http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=shichi+go+san).

March 3rd
Hinamatsuri (Doll festival) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hinamatsuri) Also called "Momo no Sekku (Peach Festival) (http://japanese.about.com/library/weekly/aa022501a.htm)." Although Hinamatsuri is for girls, wearing a peach flower hairtoy sounds nice.

The second Monday of January
Seijin no Hi (Adults Day) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seijin_no_hi)
If you are going to be 20, this is the day to wear a fancy Furisode kimono and ornate hair updo!

May 17th is Norwegian Constitution Day (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norwegian_Constitution_Day). We celebrate with childrens parades and dress up in natinoal costumes. (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:National_costumes_of_Norway) Hair ideas would probably be braids on each side or an oldfashioned updo. Flag colour, is red white and blue with cross.

I LOVE that idea!! I always want to dress up my hair for holidays when I'm teaching, and this is GREAT!

I'm in Canada, so the holidays we celebrate are:

New YEars Eve/Day--I'd think updo with anything sparkly/glittery woven in.

Valentine's Day---definately red/hearts somehow encorparated :)

St. Patrick's Day--Green---you could make it a 'earth' theme with flowers along with green ribbon so you can promote 'green day' along with using a shamrock and flowers.

Easter(can be March or April)--I'd love to do a flower chain/crown for my hair, but at work, that wouldn't go over well...the horses would eat them! Hahahah. I think think pastel colors of ribbons/hair accessories would be great!

Victoria Day (may)--- I'd love this to be something outdoorsy--flowers and natural colors. It's a big 'party' weekend in our area, but I'm not sure what the actual holiday stands for anymore ;)

Canada Day--July 1st---definatly red and white (I'm American, but I still acknowledge Canadian holidays!). Very often, we celebrate both Canada Day and the 4th of July here at horse shows--the kids have a blast with their horses in the games classes and use the colors of both flags. We tend to do our hair in fair funky braids, and use colored ribbons (face paint as well on horses and riders!) I have to take photos for you all :)

Those are the only ones I can think of (outside of Xmas and the common holidays--Halloween etc) :)
