I have recently noticed that I have a halo of short hairs, between 2 and 3 inches in length. They are very noticable if I pull my hair back away from my face as seen below. I have no idea what has caused this nor do I know how to fix it. I would greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions you have to offer.

My daily hair routine ~
wash with SLS/Paraben free shampoo
condition with a low % silicone conditioner
blow dry just the top & bangs
I usually wear my hair down but have been know to throw it up in a ponytail just to get it out of my face
color with Henna by using either a full head and root application every 6 to 8 weeks
I have in the past used a flat iron on it as well

I could be wrong, but I think it's normal: we normally shed hair in a cyclical pattern, and what falls off does grow back. It sounds like you're noticing newly grown hair. :)

Those are your babies! :D
Usually a dab of coconut oil rubbed between your hands and smoothed over is all they need. Sometimes aloe gel works too :)

I was wondering if it might be new growth. Is there a way to tell the difference between regrowth and breakage?

Look at the ends. If they taper to a point=babies.

I have those too. As a matter-of-fact, they stuck out so bad yesterday that I looked rather crazed.
I just got a thin barrel curling iron *gasp* and make ringlets out of the longer ones behind my ears or back by my bun sometimes.
Mine is just new hair. I only know this because it's always been like that.

Cute new baby growth!
I've found that rinsing with diluted citric acid after I wash has really helped smooth the frizzies. I'm not sure where most people get their ditric acid, I can get in in bulk at my local grocery store. I mix about 1/2 teaspoon in a large yogurt container of water and pour it over my hair after washing and conditioning.

I get those too but I just let them fly because nothing fazes them for long--might as well let them do what they want because it's only a matter of time. They make for a 'soft' look, and they actually go really well with a less-formal bun or braid.

I agree - they're new hairs. I use Natures Gate styling putty when I want to smooth mine down. It works without being too gluey.

I have lots of 'baby hairs' all over my head, but I have a TON around my hairline that never grow longer than 4".
Some people have more, some less, but everyone has them.

Here's my halo-head after a very humid day, and a bit of wind. No wonder the cashier looked at me oddly that evening! I took this 6 years ago.

I "handle' mine by misting my hair each morning. It has distilled water in it, sometimes some esential oils, and sometimes some leave in conditioner (Giovanni Direct Leave In). I wear my hair in a bun or braid most days. The misting helps keep the halo a little tamer.

I have them too. I initially thought it was breakage (have been having lots of hair loss), and some of it actually is because I noticed my circumference isn't what it used to be.

I too have lots of baby hairs. I find using a tiny small amount of coconut oil and using a BBB brush, calms and smooths them down. :)

Aloe vera gel can help to smooth them down too.

As others have said, this may be normal baby-hair growth.
If they seem worse than normal, ask yourself if you recently (up to 6 months ago) improved your haircare.
Once I stopped flat-ironing my hair really improved, but for 6 months I had loads more very short hairs coming through where the flat iron had previously snapped them off.
If you have recently been looking after your hair better, this may be a sign that its health is improving.

I use coconut oil too. Just a tiny amount rubbed and warmed into my finger tips and a quick smoothing motion over the top and sides of my head once or twice. I don't do it more than that so it won't look oily. Then I wipe the excess oil into my ends. Use a tiny amount until you know how much coconut oil to use.

I get those also. I agree that they are new growth. If I look carefully I can pick out hairs of a variety of lengths. I think I never understood what they were until I watched my first gray hair grow out :) . It helps me to use some oil to smooth them down, and they get less noticeable the longer it has been since a hair wash.
