I was wondering what do you do with your wet hair after washing it?
I have not had long hair in a LONG time - when it was short I would set it. But now that it is long I don't like it hanging down my back all wet, so I part it like I was going to make 2 pony tails but twist them & put clip them up. Or sometimes I will put it like in a French twist & put a bobby pin through it.
So what do you do with your wet hair?

I usually leave it down when it is drying, but when I have to go out or I'm busy put it in a bun and use my fakkare. It feels great when I take it out of the bun at night!:) Otherwise if its at night I braid it in a regular english braid.

I usually wash at night and drape my wet hair above my pillow over the bed to dry. I keep that area covered with satin to make it hair-friendly.
If I happen to wash in the morning, I will let it drip dry for a little bit. Then I change into dry clothing and very gently bun it before I go out. But it stays damp all day if I do that.

Wait endlessly. My hair takes so long to dry. I usually keep it down while it's drying, though sometimes I clip parts of it up in an effort to get root lift.
Some members bun their hair while it's wet or at least damp. I'm told it makes your hair softer and helps it absorb moisture, but it can take forever to dry.
I don't know if I'd twist my hair when it's wet if I were you, it can cause damage. Hair stretches further when it's wet, and it can stretch too far.

I like to wrap it. I usually wash my hair in the evening, wet wrap it, put a scarf over it and go to bed. It leaves my hair kinda straight, without using heat :). It does lay rather flat in the mornings, because my hair is really thin, but if i let it air dry it just turns in one big mess :(.

After washing my hair I will wear my hair down with a long big towel wrapped around it like this
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?pictureid=37556&albumid=2286&dl=1240610225&thumb=1
I will leave my hair dry naturally like this, then comb it :D. It helps avoid a wet back :cheese:

I bun it, some say that twisting your hair wet is bad, but I hardly twist it when it's wet. And my hair doesn't seem to be getting damaged by that, so I will continue to do this.
Sometimes I will wrap bun it and that works just as good if you don't like twisting your wet hair. I also let it down to dry, separating my hair in small sections so it can dry faster.

After squeezing out the excess water, I spritz on some homemade detangling spray and comb my hair VERY gently. Then I put it into a comfortable bun that doesn't require manipulation or twisting (usually I do a lazy wrap bun or a wrapped cinnabun). That's all!

If I'm wearing it down (about 1% of the time) I leave it down my back for 3 and a half hours to dry. Otherwise I oil it then bun/braid/sculpt it.

I wrap it up in a towel until it's damp and then I let it down to air dry the rest of the time.

I do a very loose cinnamon bun. Drying this way takes almost all day, so I will take it down every few hours to shake it out and leave it loose for a few minutes before re-bunning.

I usually leave it down -- if I throw a towel over the back of the couch and throw my hair back over that, my back doesn't get wet and the couch gets only minimally damp. Sometimes I'll leave it down while I sleep, but it usually gets so tangled that unless I washed it *right* before bed I'll English- or rope-braid it. If I braid my hair wet, though, it will still be damp in the morning, so I try to get it as dry as possible before braiding.

I've tried braids or a bun while it dries but I can go most of one evening, overnight & after undoing my hair find out it's still wet the next morning.
These days I leave it down the night I wash it and it's dry by morning.
On good thing about long hair in the hot weather is that I love to take a cold shower then put my hair up in a bun or twist...it seems to hold that cool water against my head for a few hours & keep me just a touch cooler than I would have been.
I love that trick!

I'm sitting here with freshly washed hair right now. It's down because I just combed it and I think I'll just keep it down tonight. I don't have a regular routine anymore, it just depends on what I'm doing at the time.

Depends,a lot of the time I just braid it wet and then bun it so it's out of my way. That takes an incredibly long time to dry though,so if it's sunny outside and a weeked,I'll go sit out there :)

I put it in a turbie twist towel to dry for 30 minutes then I take it down to comb let it air dry hanging down for a few minutes then put it up into a damp bun. The scalp dries while wearing the updo and the length dries at night when I take it down.
Here is my Hair Towel How-To page (http://classiclength.googlepages.com/hairtowel.html) for long hair.

If I have to go out before it's dry I bun it up with a metal hair toy. The scalp hair dries quickly. If I'm home I let it hang down my back. I enjoy the feeling of wet hair on my back and arms. I usually wear a camisole when I'm at home and I love wet hair on my skin. Yes I know I'm a wierdo :smirk:

I put it in a towel for about 10 minutes, then blowdry for a few minutes. I don't blowdry until it's dry, just to get it a bit less damp, and I only use the low or warm settings. After that I just airdry it.

I put my hair in a twisty towel and leave it there until I go to bed (or a few hours, whichever is shorter). If I"m going to bed, I'll put my hair in 4 scrunchies down the length. When I wake up my hair is mostly dry.

I shower after I wake up, so I put my hair in a hair towel for about 15 minutes or so then comb and lightly oil it then braid it for work. It is mostly dry when I take the braid out 7 hours or so later.

I usually wash my hair when I have plenty of time to leave it loose to dry.
I gently blot excess water out with a towel, then detangle once it's no longer dripping wet. Blot the ends a few more times so they don't drip all over me, and leave it loose. If I have to go to work on a wash day, a Chinese Braided Bun is my default style - it's easy to do with damp hair and nice and protective.

If I wash at night, then I will wrap/plop my hair in a towel and sometimes I will remove the towel before I go to bed. The towel always ends up coming off during the night anyway.
In the mornings, I try to squeeze the worst of the wet out of my hair, then I put it in a towel. Hopefully, it looks mostly dry by the time I leave the house.

When I had long(er) hair I used to put it up with bobby pins or clips to give it nice waves.
But my hair is quite self-wavy, so sometimes I used to leave it alone (not comb at all) and put some gel in.
Now, it's shorter and has a lot of layers so I have to sit with a scarf around my neck and hair to make it straight, lol.

I usually do a braid after I've washed it, mostly because I wash my hair at night and I don't like sleeping in a bun. I hate having wet hair all over the place, and it tangles so easily for me when it's wet. I always have to contain it somehow or blow dry it.

I usually just do it at night so i can leave it down to dry. And pull it over my shoulder when i'm sleeping. If i just have to wash it and don't have time to dry an oiled braided chinese bun works for me :)
I always slip the hair tyes off before slipping the ends in though.

I turn off the shower, squeeze out the major water/drips and then I step out. I wrap a towel around my body, then grab a second that I drape around my back and shoulders.
Then I flip the shoulder towel as well as my head upside down and slide the whole towel down and do the twist/towel/turban thing with it.
I dress and after that I take the towel off. It's mostly just damp then. :) I let it air dry until it's 90% dry and I blow dry the rest of the way to knock out the waves or I just let it dry all the way if I want the waves.

I always wrap it in a towel at first. Then I stroke my head with my fingers, because otherwise the wet hair will be stuck on my head. It needs some air.
Then I devide it into sections, and let each section dry. If I don't, some parts will be damp for maybe two days.

I just leave it alone. I squeeze out as much water as I can so it won't drip down my back and then I ignore it until it's dry.

90% of the time, I wash my hair at night, right before I go to bed. It is soOo cold in the winter that it would be rather foolish to venture outside with even slightly damp hair, so washing at night works the best.
After my shower, I towel dry my hair. Then I climb into bed, pile my hair to the side and go to sleep.
In the morning, I give it a gentle brush, and its all good. :)
*note: I have extremely straight hair, which probably prevents it from tangling too badly.

I put it in a towel, but only for 5 minutes! Then I carefully comb it followed by several sessions of blow drying. I do air dry some, but try to speed it up be using a fan or going outside it it is warm.

I drip dry my hair after having it in a towel for about 10 minutes or so.
If I'm in a hurry, in my car I will turn on the air to high/warm setting (just barely warm, but lots of strong, air flow) and it is almost dry in about five minutes. By the time I get to where I'm going it looks fluffy and lifted and nearly dry, without the hot, damaging effects of a blow dryer.
I save some time that way.

It depends what time of day, or what I'm going to be doing after a wash. I try my darnedest to wash in the evenings, but with 5 small kids, trying to do ANYTHING on a routine or schedule is pretty much a lost cause. :pinktongue:
If I'm lucky enough to get an evening wash, I just wear it down until it dries, and then go to bed. I try not to sleep with it wet, because it tangles when I sleep on it wet (plus it's uncomfortable to have a clammy pillowcase!!).
If I'm having to go out soon after a wash, I bun it. Normal, garden-variety cinnabun or bee-butt. :)

If I don't have to go out I leave it down. If I have to go to work, I put it up in a logroll with a fakkare, because I can do one of those without combing and it still looks decent.

I gently squeeze out the water, pull my hair to the side, and very lightly and very gently sqeeze it and loosely twist it. Then I put the twist over my head and wrap my head/hair in a microfiber towel. I leave the towel on for 15 to 20 minutes, which pulls out a good deal of the water. Then I spray on a little leave-in, comb it through with a wide-tooth comb, and let my hair air dry.
I generally wash my hair a couple of hours before I go to bed, so sometimes I go to sleep with a lightly damp head. By morning my hair is dry.

I do exactly this if I wash in the morning, which I seem to have switched to lately, or if I wash at night, I just leave it down to dry. I'm another weirdo like Carloyn in that I love the feel of wet hair, and I get better waves if my hair dries down.

I leave it down till it air dries and then comb it. Right now I have so less hair eventhough it is 29 inches long it tapers a lot and I do not have a lot of tangles. So I comb it when it dries.
When I had thicker hair I used to detangle it with my fingers and let it air dry and then comb it. (I wish for those times again.)

I usually put my wet hair in a clip after I have taken off my towel. I wait an hour or two while it is still really wet, after that time I will take it down and let the rest air dry. If I don't clip it up, my shirts get too wet, and then I freeze.

On wash days I leave my hair down for the day so after I squeeze excess water out and blot with a towel I usually wrap it up while I dress. I then use a wide toothed comb and let it air dry, with a shake or two along the way so the curls form nicer.

I was always fascinated by drip dryers. What is "drip dry"? Does it mean not even a towel? And for you, big haired people, doesn't it take AGES to dry?
I air dry my own short hair, because the blow dryer would destroy my waves (<3), but even i would never think of not using a towel after stepping out of the sower cabin.

For me it depends on whether I'm going to wear my hair up or leave it down.
Updo styling - squeeze excess water out, wrap hair in microfiber towel for 5 minutes. Remove towel and apply leave-in conditioner to ends. At that point I either let my hair air dry or wrap it in a turbie twist for a few more minutes. Once my hair is just damp I put it up in some fashion.
Loose - squeeze excess water out, comb through flaxseed gel & leave-in conditioner. Wrap hair in microfiber towel for 5-10 minutes, then remove and gently scrunch waves. Let air dry.

Right out of the shower, I put it in a turban towel so most of the water is absorbed. Then, weather permitting, I sit outside and let nature play with it until just before it's completely dry. Then I comb it out and let it finish drying inside.
If I wash just before bedtime, I still use the turban first and then wrap a towel over my pillow and go to sleep with it loose. My hair is just past BSL so not too difficult to manage if I get a few tangles. Once it gets past my waist I'm sure I'll have to adapt.

I don't think I will be much help. I keep my wet hair up in a towel for a few minutes to absorb the extra wetness. Then after I run through it with my fingers, I let my hair air dry. So it is down the whole time it is wet. My hair is naturally straight so this works well for me. It doesn't bother my having it down when it is wet, and it drys within a couple hours.

I think it depends on your hair. I tend to wring mine out (well not wring, but squeeze from scalp to ends) a few times before stepping out of the shower. Usually do not, but sometimes do use a towel to sop up extra moisture.
Since I'm going to be sleeping, it doesn't bother me to let it dry as it will.
