View Full Version : Show Me Your Front Hairline & Forehead

If you're interested, please post a photo showing your front hairline and forehead when your hair is pulled back in a bun/braid/ponytail/whatever but with all the wispies brushed forward so they can be seen easily. If you want, include a tape measure in the pic to show scale / length of forehead. This is probably an easier task for those of us without cut in bangs or side pieces, but anyone who wants to can participate.

Please include the length of your forehead and your age or at least your age decade ;) if you'd rather not say precisely. Also, have you always had a long/short forehead or has it changed over the years?

I am curious to see what the average length forehead and average amount of wispies might be. I think my wispies may be growing in number and/or forehead receding which I have heard is common in your 20's (which I am). I have a small forehead, only 2 inches or a bit over but am starting to notice an inverted angle forming on both sides. It's not something I'm particularly worried about, although it could be caused from tension/pulling on certain strands in updos, but I'm more apt to think it is natural. So I want to see what everyone else has! :cheese:

I will be back to post mine once I get a decent photo. Thank you in advance for anyone willing to take a pic for me!

Pretty eyes Aisha!

Here's a terrible photo of me but it's the only one I have in photobucket with my hair pulled back:

Thank you Aisha and Manderly! I was actually hoping to get a pic of it pulled back but with any short pieces brushed forward--you know those hairs we are always trying to put gel on to get them to stay back and not look messy. Those are good shots too though. Honestly, I haven't tried it yet myself so I'm not sure how it would turn out to have a photo with all the wispies pushed forward.

not quite 30 years old, but it's gaining on me. wispies pushed forward, as much as i can, but it's totally counter-intuitive.

It just so happens that I'm having a particularly wispy day, so I grabbed a shot for you. Get a load of those freckles - or are they age spots? Maybe I should start using makeup more.... :p

Oh, um, if I draw an imaginary line over the tops of my eyebrows and measure to the middle of my hairline, it's 4cm. I don't think it's receded at all over the years, though the hairline is thinner than it used to be, especially in the middle and in the corners. :-( The wispies are particularly wispy at the corners.

Ok here are mine. No makeup and moisturizer making my face shiny. Perfect time to take pics, huh?

The rest are with wispies pushed forward.

What do you think, do I have a normal about of short hairs or not? I dunno, they look pretty bad in some of the side pics to me but I never had good hair in front of my ears.

um... your short hairs look like my normal length front hairs :(. i don't consider mine of that length as the wispy ones (yes, very very envious)

Yeah, I just rubbed my hands over my head and those are all the hairs too short to stay in my no-ponytail band bun. If I used a pony band you wouldn't see so many long ones. There are definitely shorter pieces in the mix too. Basically, these are the hairs that come out when your pull a tight necked shirt over your head while it's in an updo.

Mine have been like this as long as I remember (and my temples have always been thinner/go back in a little V, even when I was 4-6). It's about 2.25" from centre hairline to centre eyebrows, so I guess I've got a longer forehead. The bulk of the long wispies are in the 8-9" range.

Yours look a lot like mine, actually.

Hairline (hair oily--this was actually after the next two pics...they don't stay back as nice when freshly washed):

Ohh, now I get it. Okay, here's a shot with 'sweatshirt head'. :silly: I don't have that many short hairs, in comparison... interesting! They were like a fine cobweb over my face.

Sweatshirt head --good name for it. It's always a nice look to sport when trying on clothes. Even more fun when a shirt tag gets stuck in your bun (happens to me way too often).

You can have some of mine Teazel. They are quite abundant! I'm not certain if any of them ever grow long enough to fit in a ponytail or if that's terminal length for the front of ear area.

Hey!

My forehead has always been the same, oldest picture I looked at I was 12. It measures 6cm/ 2.4, I think it is average? Def, not short..

Thats recent (don't have an all pulled back one at the moment, can take a better one tommorow)

I don't have many short hairs, most grows long.

I did have some mad regrowth after I stopped with chemical dye though...more than your shorter hairs around the face. Will see if I find the pics.

Did anyone ever tell you that you slightly resemble Kate Winslet! I think she has such a pretty noble face :)

Here ya go -

forehead (yes, it's really a "fivehead") -

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=641&pictureid=6667

free wispies -

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3328/3449650761_f265bc2aa6.jpg

wispies smoothed back -

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3036/3449650759_ee8615b951.jpg

My forehead has always been like this. Some are hairs with very short terminal lengths (like less than 4"), some are regrowth. I used to have more wispies, but sleeping on a satin pillowcase has allowed those that were really regrowth to grow longer.

ETA a picture of me when I was 16. It's hard to see, because I had bangs (to hide the fivehead!), but you can see that I had short wispies at the corners of my forehead even then -

Well, I'm encouraged that my whispies aren't unusual... I'll try to take pictures later today. I have noted that I used to have a small line of ~1/2 inch long hairs that hung down from my hairline, from the time I started growing my bangs out (4th grade) until some time in high school. I don't know if they shed out or grew out (though I'm going home this weekend, so I might be able to find a picture), but I'm glad I no longer have a stripe there.

Well, I have a LOT of wispies, but some of it is regrowth from the huge shed I had a couple/three years ago. I am forty twol, my forehead is 2" long exactly from the top of my nose, and it's not changed at all. My hairline has thinned tremendously (medications and thyriod issues) but it hasnt' receded.
Oh, and the wispies are all different lengths, but most end at about my chin.

Emi, thanks for posting both the old and new photos. I agree, your front hair looks very similar in both.

Aisha, you have so few wispies! Beautiful eyes too.

Phalaenopsis no problem if you don't want to do pics, your description was helpful too. I thought about this and if you cropped the photo to show from eyes up it would be less identifying, even moreso if you close your eyes.

Altocumulus nice photos thanks for taking the time to put them up. I like how you got the wispies to stick straight out :D

Anje, that is interesting how the shower wispies shed/grew out over time. Maybe from better care?

Addy, thanks for posting such good photos! I see we have a similar side shape going on.

Rags thanks for the description. Lots of wispies down to chin length seems about average around here.

Phalaenopsis -- Mine showed up with the combo of flash and then being rather greasy, so they're a tad darker than usual (from the oil), and clumped a bit instead of spead out. Half the time when they're there they don't show up in pics.

Emichiee -- Actually, I have been told that. Back probably not quite four years ago in old photo hair journal, I think? I can't remember who mentioned it. I've never been told that in person yet.

FWIW mine are actually quite thick, and not sure I mentioned in the other post but I've been dealing with shedding from hypothyroidism for a bit. They're mostly the same length in the last pictures, but after last July...and or November I think they almost completely shed out (I had lost about 1/3rd of thickness, and they seemed missing for a couple of months).

And some things I couldn't find last night...I actually took pics back in January, too (non-greasy hair), but they didn't show up near as well, especially from the front: Front (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/UnnamedGryffon/2009/f56fbc02.jpg). Side (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/UnnamedGryffon/2009/43ee1734.jpg). Again, they're normally longer like the other pics. And these (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/UnnamedGryffon/pics/historyearly.jpg) are really old pics (in the 3-5 range) that while small I think one can still see that I've always had the v-temple hairs and a largish forehead. Oh, and the barrettes were to tame the wispies.

I can't believe I'm posting *any* pictures of myself, much less these. Yes, I look terrible. Too bad.

First one shows my hairline (and wow, my eyebrows, too). The widow's peak seems thinner than it used to be, but it could be my imagination. I don't have anything to compare it to.

http://www.iwgd.com/lhc/wispies/hairline.jpg

Two shots of wispies pushed forward. Most of these used to actually be fringe and are substantially below my chin now - they just don't stay back in an updo very well. The stuff on the sides, which seems about chin length, is pretty typical for me, although it does get longer, it takes a bloody long time.

Bizarrely, I'm feeling a bit abnormal for not having as many wispies as most of you! Now I'm worrying that regrowth has slowed down, and soon all my hair will fall out and not be replaced... okay, stop it Teazel! *slaps self*

Islandgrrl, thanks for posting photos. Your wispies look almost intentional, with those longer bangs added in. :) They must give a nice soft look to your updo when arranged.

Freznow, that's what I was thinking...all the short pieces pulled out make for a natural fringe.

Vampodrama, that's my car with the windows down look, unless I have lots of aloe vera gel holding them back. :p Thanks for posting your photo!

Eresh, yes they do give a soft look to updos unless they go all crazy like in those pics.

Teazel, I would prefer to have less, like you do. Especially if that meant those hairs were adding to my length thickness.

So here are my whispies, they aren't that long and a just a few are from my short layered hairstyle. In my ponytail you can see the short layers that just barely went up; they are sticking straight up.
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b259/hootiebean/lhc/Picture001.jpg The slightly thicker patches right on either side of the middle of my forehead are mainly from my layers. My actual front whispies aren't longer than my nose generally.
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b259/hootiebean/lhc/Picture002.jpg Whispies from the side. My sideburn whispies are particularly annoying.

ETA2: Sorry, I forgot to answer your original questions. I don't have a tape measure and I'm 31 years old today. Woo! I always had bangs until I started growing them out in Jan or Feb 2008. I'm not sure if my hairline has changed as I've aged.

ZaBasDa, it is interesting to see that yours only grow to nose length, although I'm wondering if maybe the crown height ponytail would hold anything longer back.

I have lots of wispies, that just don't grow. My forehead measures 2.5 inches from hairline to eyebrow. High forehead, goes back farther than the sloping part. And goes back at temples, where I have some hairs that only grow .25 inches, I Hope I keep them. I can't say if my hairline has changed dramatically, I can see from my teens it's been similar, but it's virtually impossible to measure and know for certain.
