Hello.
I have medium coarse hair that is rather wavy. I've been wearing it up in a bun held by two hair sticks for the last two weeks. Since I've been reading this forum and trying out new hair care techniques I feel that my hair has improved so much. One example is that my scalp does not get as oily as it was before , I can now wash my hair twice a week rather than everyday.
I started using the Cafe Moreno shampoo bar by CV about one month ago. It left my hair feeling heavy and coated but I did not mind because I always had it in a bun. Last week I went to the grocery and bought a bottle of Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar , I had read that it was recommended to help get rid of the waxy feeling of the poo bar.
Well . I tried it and it did make my hair softer but when it dried it was so straight and slippery that my hair sticks kept falling out.
Did I use too much? I only put a capfull of the vinegar into a 16 oz water bottle. Is it normal for the hair to feel slick like that?

Hmm, I also have that problem with ACV from time to time. Don't know why, don't think it's the amount that's causing it. Maybe some hair just react that way. A shame, because I find it to be a very soothing treatment.

Wow!!! I'm going to have to try this. I love the vinegar rinse because it smooths the cuticle. I WANT relaxation of curl and slipperyness.

I'm going to try this next wash!!

I know that when you mix baking soda and vinegar together it foams up and feels slippery. Maybe it is some sort of reaction with whatever else you are using during your wash. This baking soda and vinegar mix can clean drains.

Your vinegar mix may have been a little too strong. When I have too much vinegar in my rinse my hair feels very slippery and even oddly oily when it dries. Just use a little less vinegar next time.

I want to know how to do an ACV rinse. I have been striving for slippery hair since I gave up cones. How much do you dilute it? Do you rinse it out? I really have no idea how to do it.
Thanks for any help.

Ok, nevermind. I think I found the info I needed. I found it in haircare articles. I'm starting to get better at my searching methods on this forum.

Ok today was the first time I ever tried ACV rinse, and I'm wondering why on earth I've never done it before! It didn't make my hair slippery, but it has reduced my fluffiness significantly - and all without conditioner!

Does anyone have advice on how often can I use the rinse?

I use a vinegar rinse after every poobar wash, every 2 -4 days. I also notice that if its too strong my hair is way to slippery and it looks weighted down and even oil sometimes.

I've done this a few times now and I like the results but I've found that even after a thorough rinsing of the ACV, the smell sorta lingers until my hair is completely dry. Has anyone else encountered the issue of its smell afterwards? Even after drying, I noticed that if I work up a little sweat from exercise or it's drizzling outside, the moisture revitalizes the ACV smell.. :(

Perhaps it is caused by this special vinegar that you use. Have you ever tried another brand?
Or maybe you use to much vinegar for your rinse.

People seem to report really varying differences with how much smell is evident after washing. my guess is it has to do with the porosity of your hair - the vinegar smell for me evaporates COMPLETELY even without me rinsing it out, so long as I airdry my hair. Your hair might be holding onto it a bit.
I know a lot of people have also had success with adding EOs to their rinse which may mask the scent and leave a pleasant one instead. Others find that switching to white vinegar, citric acid, or even lime juice will work. Just needs to be acidic. I was using rice vinegar with no ill effects for a while.

I'm guessing it could be a result of either. I use the organic one from Whole Foods (365) and dilute it (though I'm not sure to what proportions).

Moonstruck, the porosity could very well be a major factor too! Hopefully over time, with the more time and care I put into my hair, the ACV results will be more pleasant. *crossing fingers*

I mix my ACV with equal parts honey and find that the vinegar smell is not as strong. I bought some organic ACV, but haven't tried this yet. I heard Braggs or organic is better.

I thought it was supposed to make your hair feel sorta slippery(Not greasy, but really soft and slick.)? Not sure what to do about the hair sticks though.

I love my ACV rinses. I have really harsh water, and it really helps with 'poo bar buildup.

I do have a question, though. I've noticed my hair getting lighter after each use. Is this supposed to happen? I don't think I'm using too much. Has anyone else noticed this? If so, is it permanent?

I have been washing my hair every other day using shampoo & aubrey organic conditioner. After the conditioner, I do a quick acv rinse. I put 2 capfulls into 10 oz of water & pour over my head. I do rinse for a little bit but not vigorously. It has an amazing effect....hair is so smooth & silky. My hair is too short to really wear it up yet so the hair sticks are not a problem (however, wish my hair was long enough to have that problem ☺).

So you put the acv in water then pour on hair and massage a little? Do you then rinse with water again or just ring it out and put in a towel??

I pour over head & just run my fingers through to make sure it has coated my hair. then i rinse slightly with water...not too much.

What I do is just put the ACV in and then rinse somewhat well in as chilly water as I can stand. I don't like cold water at all, but I do turn it down from my hot water to a more warm water. To be honest, I don't massage it in, but I do run my fingers thru my hair as I rinse it.
