Let's get some chatter going! If you can, post a picture too!

What is your favorite up-do and why?

Mine is a simple french braid, or the infinity bun. :) I keep trying to figure out how to do dutch braids, but I seem incapable. :( Boo. I don't have a picture of either, though, because I'm a terrible OP!!! :) :cheese:

One of my favourite updos of late is a French braided bun. I like the bun and braid waves I get afterward too. I also like wrapped hairfork buns when I'm in a hurry. :)

ditto on the wrapped hairfork buns.

I'm also a pony-tail addict.That's not a updo,its a crime :)

My current favorite is a french braid, folded upwards and over, and pinned with a barette. Comfortable, secure, goes with everything, and it's easy.

Re: the pic....I think I want a new one to go with our renovated home....:)

I think I like the Dutch braid best. However it takes so long to put up hehe. I opt for my 10sec quick bun then. Though I LOVE the figure 8 for the looks, but can't do that yet. POO!

Currently, I'm a fan of wrapped buns. Quick, easy, comfy, and they don't create so much "bun wrinkle" for me as cinnamon buns.

But my absolute favorite is crown braids. I'm still sorting out how to do them, but I love the weight distribution!

French twist and infinity.
How do you wrap a fork?
Do you mean sticks?
Or do you make the bun and skewer it w fork?

I must be doing wrapped buns wrong, I keep trying to do them, but they don't hold the same. Which is a shame, because I love the look and the less amount of bun waves! Which can be nice as well, but my hair holds waves so easily.

Hmmmm currently I think the English braid with just a few French braids at the top (is that called something?) to make it more secure or an Infinity or Figure 8 since they finally work so much better! Also I have been doing a twisted pony tail folded up under with the ends tucked under secured with a Flexi 8. I seem to be in a whole new area of updos I am able to do so I guess I really DID gain some length while LHC was down!!!

I learned about the Orchid Bun over on Beauty Bottle and I love it! I also enjoy the crown braid, but mine is just a braid wrapped around my head.... And I have another that has no name, but it's easy for me and fairly secure.

I just learned how to do the gibraltar bun on the beauty bottle and Im in love! I've been using it all week and it holds all day long with just ONE hairstick! I can't even make a cinnabun do that. I don't get a headache, and nothing pulls.
I also really like the hairstyle thats in Spidermoms avatar, before I discovered the gibraltar I was using that.

And then the dutch braid on the weekends. (thats my hair "down" style.)

Since my chop, all I can do is a high pony or a French twist. My hair is usually up in a ponytail. Fast, easy and it gets it up off my neck. :)

I am really bad with describing a how-to. I think there is one over at the long hair loom. I can always do another video tutorial. (I did one earlier for Nightshade's Equilibrium Bun over at TBB.)

I'm so glad that you're making progress and loving them! I wanted to add that I tried doing them by just adding hair from the bottom section, and braiding the top one in without adding hair. It made it easier to handle. Also for fun, I reversed the direction and started on the other side of my head.

Pics? Maybe in a few days. I had a decent one yesterday, but didn't get a shot of it.
Starting so that I go over the top of my head first has made a HUGE difference. Crown braids are much easier when you're not bending over trying not to get hair from the top of your head caught in the bottom portion.

I'm not quite clear on what you mean by adding hair from the bottom section, though...

You may have to give the new site one of its first "how to" articles.

My fav bun is my version of the wrapped inside-out bun. (See my avatar.) Somehow, I flip mine up rather than down, but it works, so I'm not going to worry about technique too much.

I am also enamored with the orchid bun, though I think that I'm doing that wrong, too. Anyway, they turn out pretty.

Mine is a figure 8. Easiest to do (aside from a bun), not hard to secure with whatever hairtoy you choose, and looks unusual.

My favorite updo is a type of bun. I make a bee-butt bun and then fit the very top coil of the bee-butt down around the rest of it, so that it 'locks' in place. Here's a slightly crappy image of it:

My favourite updo is still the French twist but I'm still having issues with it at my current length and because I have failed to find the name of the bun I do most of the time now I can't tell you atm :( But you make a loop, wrap hair around it and then split the loop into 2 and anchor them on opposite sides of the rest of the hair, I think it was called something like quick and easy bun... My memory fails me atm.

I also love the cinnamon bun with a Ficcare over it.

All of these are quick and easy to do for me and that's why I <3 them.

jojo- how did you make that poofy bun! it looks marvelous (i have never used that word in real life but it describes it perfectly!)
english braids/plaits are a quicky good protective style for me. I do plated buns for work as defalt. I think that my face looks best when my hair is loose, but i love the bow bun i created and can't seem to replicate. wah!

Its dead easy all you need is a bobble/ elastic, a hair comb and a barrette.

1) comb hair into a high pony tail and secure with a bobble.
2) bend head forward so pony tail flops forward
3) take your hair comb and place near the bobble of the flipped forward hair. (so hair stays up were you have flipped)
4) stand normal! comb hair over the comb
5) tuck ends in and secure with the barrette.

Hope this helps!

My favourite updos are:

the Swirly Bun (with a hairfork)
Figure 8 bun (with hair scroos or a hairfork)
Amoretti-Wrapped-Hairstick-Bun (with a long Ketylo)
and, of course, the plain old cinabun (held with just about anything).

Two braided buns on top of my head :) It gets my hair up and out of bad weather (and peoples lattes when I am at work!) and looks younger and less formal than just one bun.
I often wear clothes that people think are "severe" because they have a lot of black (Gothic Lolita, Aristocrat, etc) and I want to keep the idea of cute and youthful part of it. I'm only 20! O_o I like Heidi braids, too.

And omg, Stagecoach, your braided Chinese bun is GORGEOUS. Mine looks awful when I try to do it!

For a long while I was doing buns of some sort everyday, but as of late; I've been on a braiding kick...Either English, French, Dutch or rope but mainly just one single braid down the back.

I'm still in love w/the braided and rope braided buns w/hair sticks...Chinese braided bun and wrapped and double wrapped are gorgeous too...I have some inspiration for some new dos that I will have to get started on! :)

Chinese bun braided or not.
Bee butt.
Infinity or figure 8.
Braids.
Definately not not as thick and luxurious as most others. Mid back with longest hairs at waist very fine thin hair.

I LOVE the logroll. It's my daily bun, because it's the only one I can do at the moment. :) It's quick and stays in with a Quattro fork or a pair of hair sticks. Speaking of Quattro, I have a great story to share. Hopefully I'll get time to do that this weekend.

Right now I'm loving a Gibson Tuck, mainly because its one of the few styles I can put together easily- don't quite have my styling groove on yet! It's easy to just throw my hair up and go, or if I take a little more care it can look really quite classy- below is one of my classic 'chuck it up and try to look presentable' moments :)

http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af104/Sylvestrix/WP_000698.jpg

I absolutely adore rose buns, but with the combination of clumsy fingers and a recent 6 inch chop, they're not in the cards at the moment!
