Sigh I hate posting this because I know there were a million threads on the old site, but I can't remeber and of the web sites that were recommended. Moved away from my Whole Foods store and now I need to buy shea butter and coconut oil online. So what sites do you ladies recommend?

I get my shea from Shea Terra Organics (http://store.africansheabuttercompany.com/), mostly because I love the Frank & Myrrh scented one. Great quality!

Thanks guys I really needed to track down a place that has all the oils and butters since nothing around here sells that kind of thing.

I like mountainroseherbs.com a lot, but they sell coconut oil in quantities greater than I really need.

I like Fromnaturewithlove.com - they sell everything, but they definitely aren't the cheapest.....

naturessheabutter.com is good too. I like mountain rose and fromnaturewithlove as well, although I got a henna mix from mountain rose that smelled funny. I think it had extra herbs in it, but whatever it was, it made my hair smell really badly for about 2 weeks afterwards.

I second Mountain Rose Herbs. It's an amazing site; plus it's easy to purchase items.

I third Mountain Rose Herbs! I love the quality of their products and their prices are pretty good.

For shea butter, I go to a local public market. One of the vendors specializes in African ethnic products, and buys shea butter in bulk, packaging it in 8 oz tubs, which were selling for $5 apiece (at least last year, that was the price, and that is the last time I bought any.) Look for African ethnic stores in your area, it will save you massive amounts of money.

Otherwise, I've also bought from Mountain Rose Herbs, and I like their service and quality, although the packaging is more in sizes for soap makers, who go through pounds at a time, rather than hair folk who use a dab here and there.

I use Garden of Wisdom (http://www.gardenofwisdom.com/page/page/3987807.htm), and I've had really good experiences with them. They sell a LOT of different oils (I directly linked to their carrier oils page, as the site is somewhat confusing at first-- at least it was for me), and they have a huge variety of sizes. Their prices, from what I've seen, are among the best, and because they have little tiny sizes (you could try 1 ounce of Apricot Kernel oil for $1.70, as one example), you can try a bunch of stuff without having 20 16 ounce bottles around your house. As I recall, their coconut oil costs slightly more than the "food" stuff I could get at the grocery store, but if I'm already placing an order (I've got another one plotted, but am waiting until I stop spending so much on hair toys), it's really good quality coconut oil. And they do sell pretty much every oil I've ever seen.
They also include a free sample with every order, which will probably get you addicted to other products-- I'm going to have to get some HA serum for my skin when I order next.
If you order under 8 ounces of stuff, they'll send it first class mail, which is very inexpensive-- otherwise, they ship priority.
Oh, Unrefined shea butter (which is found under the "butters" tab to the left) is $9.90 for 15 ounces.

Hope that helps!

I just bought some shea butter and a few oils (jojoba, sweet almond and grapeseed) from Now Foods on Amazon.com. They were pretty cheap, the shipping was fast, and the stuff I got is good quality.

There's also apparently an oilsbynature.com site, as well.

I can't recommend a supplier. I purchased some from a website not mentioned here and the shea butter looks and smells normal, but I noticed it didn't do anything for my dry skin. Its unrefined shea butter, but I think it made my skin MORE dry. Something wrong with that.

I think you'll be safe if you go with one of the recommendations here.

I got some shea butter a couple of months ago on Amazon and I'm not sure if I should use it. It's called "African Shea Butter Creams" and it was packaged really strangely and was dirt cheap.

It came in big chunks in a clear plastic container that wasn't sealed shut. It smells ok and the color is right, but I'm a little worried about contamination. It has little tiny black specks in it when I melt it (like little seed particles). I'm not sure what they are, but they look natural. Any thoughts? Has anyone tried this stuff? It has a ton of rave reviews on Amazon, so that's got to be a good thing, but I'm not sure if they are "real" reviews. I've never seen a product with so many before...

Wow... I've got to check that one out!

These are the only two sites I've ever ordered from and loved the products from both:

What section in Walmart would have this? I also looked for aloe at walmart and couldn't find that.

So far, the best price for the majority of things is at Camden Grey (http://www.camdengrey.com). I plan to order from them soon. I have heard good things about them so I am not worried about sacrificing quality for price.

I second the vote for http://www.agbangakarite.com/

They are a fair trade cooperative and the products are terrific. Unfortunately they only sell virgin shea and virgin coconut; for everything else I've had to go to my local soapmaking/candlemaking supply shop.

But... look in your phone book and see if there is a soapmaking/candlemaking supplier near you, and if there is, go in and make friends. Mine has every oil you can name (avocado, apricot kernel, mango, jojoba, ya dah ya dah) plus vegetable glycerin, soy wax and beeswax, every EO and perfume oil you can think of, and some bulk herbs too. And it's cheap!

I'm pretty sure walmart sells coconut oil. They may even sell shea as well.
