View Full Version : DBF LOVES Panteen on his "BS" hair.

My DBF loves using Panteene (Midnight Expressions) everyday on his hair which is about BS length.
I know the women here are much more into their routines than the men are. But should I try getting him to try something different? I mean his hair is fairly soft. He's got alot of damage (he's a mechanic so he's also getting oil, diesel, grease etc on it AND on his back rolling on it.)
I mean should I just leave it alone and let him use panteene even though everyone here seems to think it's damaging to the hair.

You could ask him if he's happy with the hair products he's using. If he says yes, just leave it at that - Pantene or whatever, that's the important thing. If he says something else, you could mention how Pantene isn't the most commonly used brand with longhairs and make a couple suggestions. But if he's not interested and is content as he is...well, why bother him? :)

Unless he's asked for advice, I'd stay out of it. I was once told by a friend that advice when not asked for is insulting.

Since he loves Pantene, I don't see the problem. He should use what he likes.

Ditto to the above comments. ;) I hate Pantene with a purple passion, but if he is happy with his hair "routine", then by all means let sleeping dogs lie!!

Maybe you could talk to him about keeping it out of so much grease? Protective bandana maybe? I'd be more worried about the grease, debris and friction damage...

I think what I'm trying to say is what get from here that most people here think it's 'damaging' and I kinda want to know why that way *if* he does ask (because midnight expressions is like never in stores ever...it's impossible to find so when we don't find it he normally asks me) Whats another good drugstore kinda brand I can suggest to him is more like what I meant....

I know I suggested a hair glove. He said sometimes he tucks it in his shirt... which just causes so much friction I think on it. He wears a baseball cap on it but the hair itself is always covered in stuff.

Oh, okay. If all he wants is a good backup brand, I'd suggest Dove. I really like their products. Or if he really loves Pantene, there are about 100 other types of Pantene. I think their "Beautiful Lengths" line is very nice.

That is what I was going to suggest.
You could get him some very manly do rags, skullcaps, buffs and or bandannas, that way his hair would be safe and he could look cool too! ;)
I am not sure if he would wear a pony scrub, that would allow him to get the hair completely out of the muck.
My husband gets his hair filthy too, he is a mechanic and changes oil all day long, he is completely greasy from head to feet when he comes home, yuck!
He wears a baseball cap as well, his hair won't grow past his collarbone so he usually cuts it every few months, but man, it gets nasty on the section that isn't covered, it's so gross, and used oil stinks!

The reason many members don't care for Pantene is that it is loaded with cones and many of us avoid cones because they lock out moisture and build up and can damage hair because they need to be removed with a strong detergent shampoo.
However, many members also like to use cones and feel like they make their hair behave better and give it more slip and less frizzieness.
We all get to pick what we use on our own hair. If boyfriend likes the Pantene then he should use it.

There's a big stigma that pantene is damaging and I THINK it's just because of build-up issues that people think so.
It's not really damaging if you're clarifying every once in a while. But that goes for anything.

Actualy, cones also lock in moisture. It just doesn't let any more in than the first time use, really, so that's why there's an issue. We use oil like silicone merely because it's easier to remove.

definitely let him use what he likes!
i tried to get my bf to change from harsh shampoo to conditioner or even soap for his very curly angel hair ringlet want to be hair - and he just couldn't do it. but actually when he runs out of shampoo and uses soap his hair looks sooo much better! but then he gets shampoo again AND he will not use ANYTHING i get him - because he thinks everything i use is too 'weird' so - whatever ;)
who knows - maybe the cones will actually protect his hair from the laying on the ground and dirt and grease and stuff!!!
