View Full Version : Serious Bun

This is DBF's name for a bun I think I invented, so it's what I'm going to call it. I was faffing around with my hair, sick of just being able to do braids and a cinnabun (which DBF calls a danish because our uni's improv comedy group did a show that involved a girl pretending to be the actress who plays Princess Leia wondering where her danishes for her hair went), and realised that I couldn't do an infinity bun, as my hair's too short, but I can do a half-up infinity bun!

Serious bun is a variation on the half-up infinity bun. I take all the hair above my ears and form an infinity bun which I stab with a stick to hold it. I then take the remaining hair and wrap it around the base of the bun. The ends end up to the top-right of the bun, so I tuck them under and weave another stick through the bun to hold them in place, though you could also use a bobby pin and just have the one stick.

The result looks almost identical to an infinity bun, so this might be more just an infinity bun variation for shorter/thicker hair, but I like to call it "serious bun" :p

I'll post pics soon!

These two are from the back:

This one is from the other side, showing the bottom hair wrapping round the bun:

Grr, they don't seem to be showing. They're in a public album on this site. Help?

I look forward to seeing a pic! I still can't get infinity/figure-8 buns to work in my hair, even though it's now approaching waist-length. Somehow the ends that are supposed to be tucked always flop out and I end up with a loop on the top, and one twist and one tiny pony tail on the bottom. It's frustrating.

I don't get it, so I most definately need photos.

Ohmigosh I wrote the best Freudian slip then, but saw it before I posted. Replace photos with hairsticks like I did first time round. It's true, I most definately need hairsticks.

I can't wait for pics!
At waist, I still can't really manage a figure-eight bun. This might be the way to go.

I've done something like this too!

I have a few more angles of it in my album.
I made mine in pretty much the same way: Made a half-bun with the hair above and in front of my ears, secured with a stick, gathered the hair at the nape, made two rope twists, crisscrossed them at the nape, brought them up along the infinity, crossed and tucked the ends in at the top. Two hair sticks, short ones too!

So I guess mine's the 'why so serious?" bun??:eyebrows: :D

eyesofsummer, that hairdo looks LOVELY with your curls! Mine pull out the second I start twisting my hair into a bun. Maybe it's because I twist too tightly?

Ooh, it's so pretty when the hair that's twisted around it is plaited! I'll have to try that sometime.

I'm going to wear Serious bun today in the hopes of getting some pictures :D

Hm, with your album pictures it works, but not when I try copying the URL of the pictures in your first post...

Beautiful pics, by the way. I love that shirt!

The bun looks great. I'll have to give it a try. The not so serious looks great also. I wish I had that kind of curl to hold my dos. Such great grab to hold them.

Hmm, I copied the URL from the album page, are you meant to use a different URL than the one on the album page

Thank you!

No, actually I think you did everything right, that´s what I don´t understand about it. Except that the URL for your first and second picture is the same, but it should still show...
