Since reading the cinnamon for ligthening thread w/ refernce to cinnamon being a species of cassia - has anyone lightened their hair w/cassia? I'm not talking about high lift just a little. I am thinking about alternating between lightening w/cassia then reddening w/henna.

You won't get any lightening with cassia at all. The only thing cassia will do colour wise is deposit a very pale yellow colour on white or very pale hair.

A pale yellow dye will result if you prepare cassia for dye release, as Franny mentioned. If you do not want color, simply mix the cassia and put it on your hair right away, it will then be a colorless conditioner. However, neither way will result in actually lightening your hair.

What they said :)

Sometimes henna/cassia can give the *appearance* of lighter hair, like it does to mine, but it can't actually lighten.

When I used cassia, I had chemically dyed blonde hair that was so dull and icky it appeared red in photos, though it looked yellow in person. Cassia did not change the color perceptibly in person at all, but it added enough shine so that it photographed its real color, immediately after using it.

I think henna is the same. It never lightens but it adds enough shine so that it can "appear" lighter, depending on what color it is used over.
