Sorry if my this is long, but i'm so sad. i've been crying my eyes out everyday because my hair is so short and looks really bad..
I trimmed my ends yesterday and got rid of split ends and "white beads" where they break.
my hair is damaged after a lot of bleech, dye and heat styling.
my hairdresser recommended redken extreme so i bought shampoo, conditioner and anti-snap, but also redken all soft heavy cream for moist.
she told me it wasn't that badly damaged at all, but very dry, and since i want to grow my hair out i could trim it again in about 8-10 weeks.
my hair grows really slow, I can see it by looking at my blonde outgrow. it's grown at MOST 1½ cm in 7 weeks.. so can i wait like 8-9 weeks and then trim ½ cm or is that too little? do I have to trim more?
if i take care of my hair - no washing too often, no heat, no chemicals, no "dangerous" ponytails etc, and ofcourse use my products, especially anti-snap, do you think my hair will get split ends anyway since it's dry?
oh, and one more question. is it okay to wear clip on hair extensions often or will that cause a lot of damage?

Sorry to here about the damage. I had the same problem to when i started here. I ended up getting a bob cut and have stop iron and heat on my hair. It takes a while but it will get better.

It might just be dry. Try to use more conditioner and less shampoo and stay away from heat and those other styles and you'd be surprised at how much happier and healthier your hair would be. Can you post a pix of the back? It'd be easier to give advice if we see what your hair looks like without any product in it. I bet it isn't as bad as you think. We also see something worse than it really is. Your grow is slightly over 1/2 and inch and that's not bad for 7 weeks. Average growth is 1/4" to 1/2" for four weeks. Sounds about right to me. Not too slow at all.

Hi wissles and welcome to this forum..
First of all stop crying because if you keep on crying you are going to have red eyes too and you won't make your hair grow longer if you are in such bad mood. :)
Second. There are no miracles in this world so you have to have patience and give to your hair time to grow.
By the time that you have changed your hair routine and you don't keep on bleaching and iron straight them, you'll see that your hair, if they don't get soon longer, will look more healthy.
My hair grow long very slowly too. It took me 5-6 years to get them this long, so you're not the only one that you have the same problem.
So stop crying, think positive, do what you have to do for your hair's health and you'll see that things will change soon.

sorry, but i can't. my camera is broken. but it's.. reeeally bad. it has a lot of layers, and they would probably look good if my hair was long, but now I just look like.. gosh, I don't know. it's just awful.
but you do give me a bit of hope though. i really hope it works.. :(

It will. Moisturizing conditioners are the saving grace for a lot of colored hair. I've done many, many things to my hair and thought it was fried but a good conditioner made a world of difference. The hair afterwards was happy and shiny and said, "Thank you, we love you." Here, I'll do the cheese dance of luck for you. :cheese: I just colored my hair yesterday and it's very dry and frizzy right now but I'm going to give it a bath in a Suave conditioner. It's like two difference heads of hair.

well, I guess there's hope for my hair too. but what do you say about trimming? do you think it's okay to wait 8-9 weeks or do I need to trim it sooner? I want to wait as long as possible ofcourse because i want to grow my hair long(er), but if I wait too long and the ends get worse, i only have to cut more.

Your trimming plan sounds fine. You will soon find out if you are trimming off too much or not enough. Short hair can be fun, too, and it's very cool and easy for summer.

I'd say trim if you have broken or split ends.

Redken Heavy Cream is a wonderful conditioner IMO. If you are getting a half inch per month then you are right in the middle of average growth. I know that can seem slow when you are anxious for it to grow. As you grow out your layers you might need to trim every 8-9 weeks. When you get it all one length then you can start stretching out your trims. Try to have fun with your shorter hair this summer. Get cute clips and headbands. Look at it this way...this will be your last summer with short hair unless you decide to cut it again

Aww now don't be sad:( You will find that although it will take awhile, as others have said, if you just stop doing what you know is bad for your hair and be good to it..your hair will soon start to look better and eventually, healthy. Just keep your head up because stressing over your hair will only cause you to run out and get every product that you see claiming to give you a miracle and almost immediately fix your hair (which it won't). And of course stress can cause hair fall too. I think at this point hair growth should not be your top priority, healthy hair should be...then growth will naturally follow:) Enjoy the length of hair that you have now, because after it starts reaching new lengths it will bring new headaches with it.

I'm sorry to hear about the damage.. About the clip in extensions: I wouldn't do that if your hair is already weak and brittle. I've worn them myself for a couple of months and it only led to more breakage.. And hairs falling out due to the traction they cause. :(
I do still put them in sometimes, for a wedding or some other special occasion, but not on a daily/weekly basis.

Oh no.. but i think i have to.. i can't stand looking at myself like this. but it's more the ends that are dry, where i put my clips in my hair should be strong. but i coult take them out as soon as i'm at home, and leave my hair alone on weekends.. i have to use them. :(

Is it okay to "push up" this? i won't bother people more but i would just really like to know if clip ons will damage my hair badly? because like i said, the problem with breaking is (well, not anymore but used to be) in the ends, entire hairstraws isn't falling out at all, and i haven't noticed damage from my clip ons before, but i've only had them for two months or so and not everyday, so maybe.. gosh, i'm seriously panicing. :(

Hmmmm . . . I get the whole "rock and hard place" where you're at, I really do.
However, I'd argue against the clips simply because the hair at your scalp will one day be the hair near the ends. Damage done now (compression, tension) will simply follow the length down. I'd be concerned that one day--years from now, when I finally had long pretty hair, that the stressed places would *SNAP* and then . . . layers and damage.
Ew.
I'm just a tich past shoulders, at the length I HATE MY HAIR MOST. (Jaw length is a really close second, but at least then it's not in my eyes.) I'm working at finding ways to put it up and cover it so I don't have to look at it. Scarves and hats will be my friends this summer.

I think you will have to do what you feel best about. When I was at awkward not short but not long lengths, my hair poufed out so bad that the curling iron and flat iron were my friends. And yup - I had to cut the damaged ends off later. I've probably cut off a foot of hair since I joined LHC. It was crap; I'm glad to be rid of it. Just do the best you can and have patience.
