View Full Version : Too much time on my hands OR how to make a sock bun blend

So I bought some fake hair at Sally's and wrapped it around my sock bun.

I now have a giant sock bun on the back of my head that completely blends with my hair and I won't be mortified if I get caught in a rainstorm and the gym sock is revealed! lol, it's a fear, akin to fearing that the padding in your bra would slip out and out you as a, well, a bra stuffer :-)

So now I stuff my buns instead :-)

er, hair buns that is

So my sock bun consists of a gym sock with the toe cut out and rolled up.

That was covered with a black dress sock.

Wasn't happy with that so I covered it in the fake hair.

Will experiment tomorrow with braiding my hair and wrapping it around the sock bun and see how that turns out.

Right now, I'm happy with the effect :-)

That sounds like a good idea. Do you have pictures? I can't find fake hair in my hair color, but I'd love to get a hold of some. Us thin haired folk sometimes have trouble with their sockbuns splitting and revealing the sock! :o

That's a great idea! I had mine wrapped in a knee-high hose. Course, I might have a hard time finding the right red to cover it with, but an off red might be a better option to suntan pantyhose!

I haven't yet posted pics to this site, but i did take one this morning. I'll try to upload tonight and see what happens.

I can't tell where my hair ends, and the fake begins, so it was a pretty easy match, kwaniesiam. And I agree. I love the look of buns (usually on other people) but my hair is thin. When it's loose because of the texture it looks full, but tie it up in any way and it starts looking pitiful :-(

Oskimosa, I actually like the look of the red and other colors mixing, so you might want to experiment.

I have been using some fake hair for some of my dos also. It sure helps pump up a chinese bun. I will have to try it with a sock bun also.

I did that once with a foam doughnut thing from sally's and fake red hair:

Sadly it's too dark for my hair now.

LOL It does look it in that photo! The little braids give it lots of grip without snagging :)

I'm a big fan of sock buns! I think they look classy, keep my hair safe and protected, and it is also fun to see people wonder how you got your bun so big! I seem to get lots of questions and compliments with it.
