From a pixie to an inch off BSL in 3.5 years (erm, thanks to additional trims and impulsive bad dye jobs)

Then: washing with SLS shampoo and cones, brushing wet with ball tip brush, blowdrying every day, filling my hair with gooey styling lotions and drying mousses. Colouring with red dye, black dye, brown dye, blue dye, indigo... you name it I tried it.

Now: washing with Dairy Whip, conditioning conefree, leave-ins of coconut oil or shea butter. Air drying and fingercombing only until dry. Colouring with henna. Daily updos. Night braiding.

Sorry about the hemline, the wind blew as my BF snapped the pic!

So... is my hairtype correct or not?

"1b - straight but with a slight body wave, just enough to add some volume, doesn't look wavy
1c - straight with body wave and one or two visible S-waves (e.g. nape of neck or temples)"

I think you're a 1b/1c combo. Your hair isn't wavy, but the waves you've got look 'deep' (can't think of the word right now).

Your hair looks really healthy, nice growing. :)

Thanks for posting your progress. Your hair is really pretty! I just joined and have a pixie. It is really encouraging to see people who started at my length and have made so much progress in not that much time!!!

Lovi I love the color you have now. It is very pretty and I had to laugh cause the wind was starting to pick up when my BF was taking my recent hair pic.
Your ends look nice and thick also. I would not be able to type you. I have not typed myself. :flowers: Congrats on finding what works for you. :D

The ends are shot at, to be honest. I'm babying them though. The Inecto and shea as leave-ins really help. The crazy thing is that from about halfway up the length and up to the roots, its not conditioned at all. It's just Dairy Whip.

Jel, you really think it will take me 3.5 years to get to goal? *sob* That seems aaaaages!

What is dairy whip? Are you using whipped cream topping in your hair?

Very pretty! And your typing looks right to me.

But wait -- behind you, there are blossoms on that tree! It must be spring in Neverwhere! (We still have ice and snow here. No fair!)

LOL at the Dairy Whip questions.

Not whipped cream topping. Goats milk soap, can be found at Flower Moon Soaps online. There's a thread about it in the Conventional products subforum.

Gorgeous results and congratulations on your progress so far! I don't think it will take you 3.5 years to your goal (of course, that depends on what it is); don't forget you had trims during that time and, I assume, were fixing damage.

Your hair looks shiny and healthy. :)

Jel, you really think it will take me 3.5 years to get to goal? *sob* That seems aaaaages!

Well, I understand you're tall, and your goal is classic - so, a year to waist, another to tailbone, and the third to classic length. The extra 6 months are for small trims! ;)

I've been growing my hair for 3.5 years from barely shoulder length, with no trims, and I still haven't reached tailbone (but am very near :D)

Congrats on the length! It looks absolutely gorgeous and smooth and silky!
I started growing a bit before BSL and right now, three years later am a bit past tailbone (with bimonthly trims). It is totally worth the wait though!
