I was searching around on You Tube for updo tutorials and ran across this demo on how to create an updo without any pins or clips. I was really surprised it turned out so cute. Her hair is much longer than mine and is not layered, so I'm not sure I could pull it off yet.

Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N08Ikn5lcyA

Oh I like it! Thanks for posting that.
I'm sure it will take me forever to get the right balance of tightness/looseness, but I'm going to try it tomorrow. :flower:

Man, I can't figure it out!

In those situations, I usually tie my hair in a knot. It'll stay for a short period of time.

I just tried it and since my hair is shorter I need the hairstick to hold it in place. Also, my "bump" is much smaller than hers, but it still was pretty cute. Those of you with longer hair should be able to do it pretty easily.

Wow....too cool. I tried it and it works :p I probably wouldn't try jogging or anything like that, but it is staying in place while I am walking around. Neat.

Thank You for sharing this neat stick less bun:D

Awesome idea! Sadly, (happily?) my bun-to-head ratio just doesn't allow for my bun to fit under my hair. Alas.

That looks neat, but yeah, I don't have enough scalp hair to tuck my bun into.

Usually I just coil it around one hand then drop it down the back of my shirt. Watch out for the tail though, when it unwinds.

Yay! Thanks! I've always wanted a way to put my hair up without any help! I'll give it a try tomorrow. :cheese:

It held here.. for like 10 seconds. Which IS amazing, considering my hair is very slick.

However I have to note that lifting that hair IS a bit owie though.

Interesting... I´m not sure if I could manage to get my bun under my scalp hair. :ponder: I may be tempted to take my updo of the day down again and try this one out...
O.K. you win :p off to try.

Tried it and no go. Too much bun for my scalp hair. It doesn't fit, so doesn't hold. I put mine down the back of my shirt when I want it out of the way and it isn't up already.

I've been doing that for years, and it holds really well on my hair, but I can just twist my hair into a bun (without tucking it), and it'll stay.

Yup, same for me. I tried it several times, without much luck. In general too much bun to fit under my scalp hair. Not to mention that the only attempt which somehow held, for maybe 30 seconds (with half of the bun still hanging out under the scalp-hair-fold) made me more or less look like an egg-head *eek*! I guess I´ll just stick with the nautilus bun as a self-supporting hairdo.

curses, my hair is too slippery, it won't stay without a hair stick, it does look pretty cool though :D

I can't get it to work without a hairstick! It works with one just fine, though. :)

It holds for a while and my hair is knee length!

Well I tried it, and got it to hold for a bit, but I could feel it slipping down. Which is weird, because I can twist my hair into a cinnamon bun and have it stay without pins for awhile, but I think it's a "too much bun for scalp hair" thing. Oh well.
