Look what Keoma (of Willowthewisp on Etsy) is sending me:
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j146/melykin/ETSY215.jpg

Isn't it stunning? <snip> I can't wait until it arrives.

I've got to get my camera out and take pics of some of my other new goodies.

Anyone else have goodies to share pics of?

This is gorgeous! Hand carved in the fork, right? There are so many talented artisans amongst us - what a treat you'll have in store!

I've got a few new things, but I've got to save them for the hair toy challenge!

I finally got my camera out, and the batteries are dead
I'm going out later, and will get more batteries. (We have rechargeables, but they don't seem to take a charge any more.)

In the mean time, look at this Graydog crochet hook (http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300212387471&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:CA:1123). In the description it says it is turned out of a "man-made polymer". I wonder if hair sticks could be made out of this substance. Graydog seems to have switched over entirely to crochet hooks, although I believe some of them can be adapted into hair sticks, on request.

Wow, Mely!! What an exceptional piece!!! You'll be crowned 'Belle of the Ball' next St. Andrew's!!!!

You have such a great collection!!! Thanks for sharing your finds! I bought a spebarb fork because of you! :cheese:

Gaelic girl, I understand you have a thistle hair stick made by Keoma. The funny thing is, I asked her about making a comb before I new about your stick. Great minds think alike!

I'd love to see your spebarb fork.
I asked spebarb (on Etsy) if he could make me a fork on which the beads could be changed, and he did! The beads that fit on Pandora-type bracelets work well on it -- most beads don't have a big enough hole. So now I'm obsessed with Pandora beads :silly:

I'm sure he could make you another one Keoma. :flower: He lives in Oregon, which is probably not that far from where you are. Did you see the hair stick with the changable bead? It is on my "Hair toy Madness" album which I just started last night, so it hasn't got very many of my hair toys in it yet.

I'm not trying to enable anyone into having a bead obsession or anything :o

I just ordered my second comb from speharb this morning - I know I'll be asking for a third soon. I have one will the purple bead and ordered the mixed media heart - because I want to color coordinate to clothes. This will be perfect - now I'll have to start a bead collection! Thanks for sharing.

Intothemist: check out willowthewisp etsy site -- she has another thistle comb listed--last time I looked.

Has anyone else ordered from Wolfenwoods on ebay? I've got two of their sticks and I really like them (pic in my Hair Toys Madness album). An interesting new Wolfenwoods hair stick (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110240175383)was just listed.

I thought maybe I should call a meeting, since I've been on a bender.

Look what I just ordered from Willowthewisp:
I love the natural wood stuff.
Spring flower sticks (http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=8195548)

And I have two more sticks from Wolfenwood on the way--The little "knob" on the pointy end of Wolfenwood sticks seems to help them stay in my hair. They work really well for me.
Owl stick (http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=110240175383&_trksid=p3984.cWON.m313.lVI)
cobalt crystal stick (http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=110240423534&_trksid=p3984.cWON.m313.lVI) (this is to match one I already own)

Ok, now lets call the meeting to order.
Hello, my name is Mely, and I am a hair-toy addict.
Today I'm working on step one:

1. I have come to realize that I am powerless over hair-toys listed on ebay and etsy, for without them my hair would become unmanagable...

- I'm in love with the owl-stick -- it's TOO cute! :inlove:

Ahem... *clears throat*
Hi, my name's Louise....... and yes, okaaaay.. I'm may (or may not) be hair toy addict
But I've come to terms with it.. no treatment/rehab is going to cure me anyway, so I embrace my addiction
- I don't smoke (anything), I rarely drink, I don't really like to go shopping, I don't do drugs.. So the way I see it I'm allowed to have one serious flaw  At least it's a "healthy" one.. lol

I am suffering (ok, maybe not SUFFERING) from a fairly recent hairtoy addiction. But, I quit smoking last year, so its 10 steps up right!? :D

I recently (last month probably) bought:

This kansashi (http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=8040040), These silver sticks (http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=8040040), and These custom sticks (http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=8040039) from Nightshade, this Flexi 8 (http://www.flexi8.com/flex/0549.html) (my first!) and This flexi 8 (http://www.flexi8.com/flex/0466.html) for DD, and a myriad of random stuff from the store that looks fun but always ends up unused for whatever reason.

I love my Flexi 8. Im wearing it right now and it looks great and is so secure!

For the past month I've had a moratorium on toy buying until I learn how to do more updos. But I just bought a big spool of silk ribbon a few days ago . BTW, my dad is a big old enabler. He loves wood working, especially unique woods, beautiful carvings or inlays, and finishes. If I show him something cool, he tells me to buy it. Too bad I can't get him to pay for it!:p

My sister and bf SAY I am a hairtoy addict, but I dont believe them. I always tell them, "well, at least it isnt heroin" lol

Doesn't that make them enablers, then?! ;o)

I looooooooove that owl stick! You say it matches another one you have? The little cat stick is cute, too. I've only got a gazillion-trillion-bamillion hair sticks, so looking at more hair sticks is not the smartest thing for me to do. But, hey, we're talkin' addiction', right?!

Peggy E.

I smoke AND collect hair art. But I can sell the stuff I don't use, so I guess I'm just an addict light.

I've tried to discipline myself much on this order - if I want to buy more hair toys, then I have to sell some I have and am not using. This is getting tough, as I'm sort of down to those I really, REALLY love, so the item I've found really has to be something I know I can't live another day unless it's mine.

It's amazing just how many of those hair toys there are in the world that fit this category!

So, I love the idea of the quitting smoking so the money not spent on smoking can go on hair toys! I quit smoking when I found out I was pregnant and that was 25 years ago! Man, oh, man, the hair toys I can buy with all that $$$$$!!!

Oh, wait a minute - You kind of have to HAVE the money, right? Can't just tell them that I've not spent this all along and so I deserve to have these expensive jewels?

Whad'dya say, Nightshade??!! ;o)

You guys make me feel so much better about myself and my hair accessories collection....

Recently bought a dangling thingie, have no idea what it is - needed it, though. Also am buying a petit pointe tort comb with little stars - will be asking a question concerning this comb.

Oh, and two combs from the Swap Board, and two combs from a dealer on Ruby Lane, but those were in March!

I purchase my toys in clumps so I will spend about $150-200 over spring and summer and then nothing for the rest of the year.

I have on order...3 flexis and 4 que craft.

Later this summer dh is going to get me four pairs of ketylos for my birthday.

I want two pairs of sticks from fox. I will put some pennies aside for those. And a leather slide from leather jewels. (I am doing a job for someone in august for $120 and that money is going directly into my hair fund.

But My credit card is at a level that I don't feel comfy with so I am ordering nothing else till that's low enough......I am in control of my addiction lol the kids are still getting all they need before I buy toys. When I can't buy toys I just make the best I can of what I have. Nothing goes unused. I oil and polish things as needed....and work on my wishlist.

I am an addict but I am in control. (or is that what they all say?) I haven't yet got a graydog that will be when I feel like breaking the $40 barrier for a single stick. (maybe when I have everything else I want.)

I love her stuff, but every time I see the photo at the end of her auctions working on a lathe with her hair down I cringe. I know in that photo her hair isn't even close to the lathe, but all it takes is one too-easy-to-make leaning forward movement :scared:

I actually teach students how to use a lathe, and keep a bag of hair clips and hair ties in the shop just for that purpose. I just keep telling myself that in that photo it's maybe just a photo-op and the lathe is off and if she were REALLY making something the hair would be up.

Back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth, I had to take wood shop in junior high school. This was in the time of the long, long, hanging straight down hair - girls AND boys.

The teacher had us all so afraid of that lathe that none of us would do a project requiring it's use. We all ended up making these dumb little wood rings that only required our sanding them smooth!

Talk about wasted opportunity.... :o(

Wouldn't one of these beads (http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310041609510&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:CA:1123) be nice on a hair stick? I'm thinking lilac-coloured dymondwood maybe. Now if only I:

a) had a lathe
b) wasn't too scared to go near it
c) had some idea of how to use it
d) could afford the beads

...and if there was such a thing as lilac-coloured dymondwood. Or maybe pink, or periwinkle, or mint green.

I don't get higher than 5, as hard as that is to believe ;)

I guess I am a smart addict :D

Oh and I never shop for THAT.. brrr. Pretty but FAR too expensive. All the auctions on my ebay watch list are under $20 and get thrown off when they reach that point, and I buy less than 1 a month of those in the list, on average.

Edit: I do not for one second believe that hairtoy is holding up that bun in the picture. For two.. it is terribly short. It would work for me seeing I need the shorties, but not for most on this board.

Not sure I'm quite an addict yet, although I do spend a good deal of my time online trying to find lovely hair toys I can afford! I went ahead and bought a few slides and a stick on Etsy today. And after seeing the list that Mely has made, well, I'm not so sure I will be going to bed tonight! Ooo!

I scored about 9 lol. I really have about two good shops a year and get about 7 toys each time....that's nothing right?

I don't think I've posted on the pet forum before, but I just wanted to show you all a new hair stick I just bought on ebay:

I just recieved this hair stick (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170213184442)in the mail . It is quite unlike any of my other hair sticks. The spiral part of the stick makes it impossible to push it all the way into my hair, but it can be screwed in easily, and once it is screwed in it is amazingly secure and comfortable.

This seller had 3 hair sticks listed on ebay a few weeks ago, but none since.

Oh I know that one! I saw it posted a little while ago elsewhere on LHC, cannot remember for the life of me where. I am glad it works well! Do you have a picture of it in action?

Well ... Brandywine Woodworking now have an etsy store (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5262120).

I've been drooling over the hair sticks there all morning. But they are considerably more expensive than the 3 sticks they had on ebay. I think I was very lucky to have got that stick for only $10. Now I'm giving serious consideration to buying on of the Etsy sticks for more than twice that.

oooo, I'd love to see a pic of it in action, it looks so awesome. I bet screwing it in does make it fit very securely. Too bad he doesn't have anything else up, would loe to see what other kinds of sticks would be up. :)

wow, that is a way cool stick! Maybe the low prices that the auctions were won for werent really enough to cover the costs of materials and time put into the stick.

Its really nice though, sweeeeeeeeeeeet!!

You got a great deal.

hmmm, good point, though I can see why they would like the atmosphere better at etsy too, so maybe it was a variety of reasons.
Awesome that you got such a great deal, though! :)

OK, I caved in and bought this (http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=8601985).

Since I got my first Brandywine stick for $10, this means I have paid an average of $34.50 for each of my two Brandywine sticks.

Ok, now they sent me an email offering me 50% off on another one of their sticks -- I took the bait and selected http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=11690174.

They also mentioned that they will make special orders.

Just to bump this up a bit, I had two Brandywine sticks arrive in the mail today, and I thought I would post some action shots. :D

This is an action shot of the second one, and I put it up because it shows how well the dangle swings, and the colour on the fish. :D

They are, aren't they? :D
They hold really well in my hair in the French twist, too. I have my niece's first birthday on Saturday and I know for a fact that I'll be wearing the stick with the fish dangle - I love it, the nieces will love it and it should be a great piece to attract comments. :)
I love how the amber one is a dangle but it still nice and delicate.

I wore the fish stick on the weekend to my niece's party and it held like a rock by itself!
She was so cute - while I was holding her, I would turn my head to the left and she would see the dangle, then I would turn towards her and the dangle would disappear and she would lean over to try to see where it went. I let her touch it briefly and she was so very gentle, and I hardly felt a thing. She is such a precious little angel! (I got so clucky on the weekend. But then they got us to TRY to dress their one and three year old girls, and I was tempted to get my tubes tied. :P ) :D

I let my little grand daughter (who also just turned one) touch my owl sticks, while we were looking at owl pictures in a book. She finds them facinating! I can't wait until she has hair long enough for hair toys!

That is so cute! I'll bet she loved them. :)

I keep looking at hair things in shops and thinking about whether or not my nieces could wear them. I suspect that when I have kids of my own, they will have very pretty hairtoys available to them if they want to wear them. :D

On the Etsy site, mine actually look more substantial than they are in real life - they hold really well in my hair, better than most of my turned sticks (except for the Graydogs). :)
