Non-toxic way to clean hair.......?

Is there an alternative to traditional shampoos that are non-toxic and won't dry the hair out like baking soda?

I'm concerned mainly about my kids. I'd like to get away from the regular stuff if I can. They only get their hair washed about once a week or so but by the time we do it really needs it.

you will find a lot of non-toxic ways to clean hair on here

there are: water only hair washing (WO), conditioner only hair washing (CO) provided it is a natural non-poisonous conditioner, indian herbs, soapnuts, soap or poo bars.....
