I think cuddledumplin posted the how to on the old site but I can't find the original instructions.
(the basic idea is to tie a long enough scarf or a ribbon at the end of your hair so that there is some scarf/ribbon hanging off on both sides, then roll it all up, and tie it over your head as if an alice band.) :D

Lol if I was going to see anyone today I would absolutely do that.

The BBC did an iPlayer ad where they had some flying penguins, presented as if it were a real find. They do something for April fools every year. It started in the 50s when they had a piece about money trees

@ trolleypup and redbark: :rollin:

On a more serious note, I've sent the picture of my "haircut" (and a front shot) to my father, who not only bought it, but sent back an enthusiastic reply about how gorgeous it looks, and how much better it suits someone in my position (I teach at a uni)!!

The temerity. :frog:

The Fuzzy Red Thing...which was made from 5 magic scarfs (stretchy tubular scarfs).

It's legal...especially if, as here, I'm wearing a tights underneath.

Whenever I see that red thing(I mean fashion creation of course) in a thread or happen to come across it it always makes me think trolleypup is not actually a real life person but a long haired Dr seuss creation. A kind of hairy red grinch lol. Or a Who you know like when they are in their sleep thingys....ok I am going now lol.

I didn't do that, but I might do it for work tomorrow. Here are the pics to my old post (in case anyone doesn't know how to do the "fake cut").

Tie your hair a few inches from the ends with a ribbon, scarf, etc.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/cuddledumplin/EndsTied.jpg

Tuck the ends underneath the tie.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/cuddledumplin/EndsTucked.jpg

Roll your hair up onto the tie until it is approximately at your nape. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/cuddledumplin/RollingEndsUnder.jpg

Bring the tie to the front and tie it.

Oh my gosh... how truly mean! I'm charging up the digital camera batteries to get my husband RIGHT NOW!!!

Thanks for the how-to photos Cuddledumplin!

(editing to add photo) This is what my husband just received in an email:

I'm tired of my bangs & my hair being two different lengths. Been tired of it for awhile, and just gave up this afternoon. Rather than wait 4 years for my bangs to catch up with the rest of my hair, I decided to start over & have perfectly damage-free hair again. Can you help me even the ends up when you get home?

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a321/Homeschoolmama/haircut.jpg

He may very well not speak to me for a few days after this one... this is the worst trick I've ever pulled!

:rollin:I would have loved to see his face when he received that email!

Just trying this hairstyle myself... It's rather late in the evening so I'm not going to fool anyone with it, though. It feels very weird with just below shoulder length... Actually, I haven't had this length since I was eleven years old and cut it to even it out with my bangs I had been growing out. Thank goodness it will instantly "grow" back when I take it down.

I tried the hairband trick and couldn't manage it at all. You ladies must have softer hair. I used multiple hairties since my hair is so slippery. Then I rolled it up into a big poofy ball and I somehow lost the longest hair tie inside the mess so I couldn't find the ends to tie them. :D Went to ask DH to untangle the mess and find the lost hair ties. We had a good laugh about it.

Thanks for helping out with the full instructions, cuddledumplin :flowers: :D

sapphire-o, I had the same problem the first time I tried it too. I found that a thin silk scarf tied on top of the hairband at the end of my hair worked better than a ribbon (was harder to lose in my hair), and taking my time with rolling the hair carefully, smoothing it together every roll or so, helped. You could use one hand holding the roll in shape and smoothing the hair together (as if you are preparing it for a ponytail) with the other. Try to make the roll tight, too. When it's all rolled up just take the two ends of the scarf/ribbon and tie them around your head, the roll shouldn't be able to fall apart at this point if it was done tight enough. Then you can spread it out if it doesn't fall into shape by itself.

emichiee, that's a good one :) your poor husband :D

No its not real this is about Aprils Fools day ;)
Its a longhair wig , was about Midback length (have a pic before the trim) I trimmed it and then seperated the hair in 2 parts that I braided and held the together in my fist for the pic to make it appear longer and thinner (like my ends)

In reality I wanted to prank two hair-extension loving girls that bullied me to cut my hair :p...
Was funny when they thought they actually made me do it

I still have the wig..maybe I should wear it to work one day..

Oh, good. That looked so convincing. So you did Cuddledumplin's trick and covered it with a wig? I'd hate it if you really cut your hair. But your trick looks more real than my attempts at Cuddledumplin's have. My hair just doesn't do the"cute little curl under" either, so it looks fake. Do tell us how it goes if you wear it to work!

There's no way I could get mine to stay with just rubber bands. I've tried this once or twice and use most of a package of bobby pins to hold the roll, and then tie a scarf around my head to secure it. If I get the tension right then it's tight enough to stay up for a little while but loos enough to flop over the bottom of the scarf and look somewhat natural. And this is with insanely slippery hair that spits most things out.

April 2nd, 2008, 05:10 PM
I copied something that was on the Dreamweaver Braiding site - I put my hair in a ponytail, braided the first 6-8 inches, then looped it and pulled the tail through, essentially tying a knot. I pulled the hair tie at the end of the braid out, so that it looked like I had a ponytail about BSL instead of my thigh-length hair. I think the braided section is supposed to look like a fancy hair tie, but I think next year I'm going to find some giant scrunchie to cover it up better. Nevertheless, I walked around school all day with my short ponytail over my shoulder and had three people ask me if I cut it and one girl who said "OH MY GOD WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR HAIR?"

I tried the scarf method yesterday, but uh... well the only scarf I had was a big scarf I use to do hair coverings. So I rolled and tied it on top of my head, my hair didn't want to curl under it kind of looped so it looked fake but I thought from a distance it would be alright. However with the large bow on my head, I looked like Minnie Mouse.
My intended prankees were so enthralled by unexpected the Minnie Mouse look that all I got were "what's with the scarf" comments. My workday eventually degenerated into me and my co workers giggling in the bathroom trying to figure out a way to fix it. :D

XD I played a trick on the male board like this.

I said that this was my hair wet:

And that this was my hair styled:
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b170/PaulCarroll/Me/SD531457.jpg

In the first one, my hair's suction-cupped to my skull with a protein treatment because I'd fried it, and the second is my old finger-waved ponytail thing. I also said something along the lines of 'It's so great having short hair; I don't know why you guys don't cut your's. Long hair sucks' before saying it was a joke. xD

I did a different way of making my hair look like a bob from a youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvi0Dmb9NCU
The only thing is that you need layered hair. The thing I love about my layered hair is when I put it in a ponytail or bun, my bands are loose and it looks like I have a short bob unless I turn my head and then you see a surprise :D
