hi all:)
DBF has made me two lovely new sticks(I've had them for a while now, but been too sick, then too busy, to post until now) I like them, but I think I may need some advice on how to use the one; I feel clueless with it.

This one is straight and about the same size as the first one he made for me(http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=905).
It's the same thickness but slightly longer, doesn't weigh anymore though, so I think it's just longer because this one doesn't have the twist. Here are two pics(note, the color differences are caused by the camera flash, not my photoshopping).

While it's very simple and plain at first glance, he used it to practice some inlays:cool:. Although it didn't show up very well in the pic, each side has a little dot of a brass colored metal(didn't think to ask at the time what it actually is). I like it, and it holds nicely. We talk a lot about design ideas, and I think that some really neat stuff could come out of variations on the inlays.

I must admit, this second stick, while also cool, has me stumped.

It's noticeably lighter(slightly thinner metal). From tip to tip in a straight line it's about the same length as the one above, but if it wasn't curved it would be longer than either of the others. It seems well made, but that's not the problem. Although I've heard others talk about how much more comfortable their curved forks and such are(I mentioned to him, that's where he got the idea), I've never had a curved fork or stick before, and everytime I go to insert this one it doesn't "feel" right at all compared to what I'm used to. Not uncomfortable, more like my hands don't know how to use it right. Is there some trick to this I'm missing? I've just barely gotten a few buns to hold with it so far, but none of them has come out as intended and I didn't try to leave any of them in for long.

I think it's great he's getting into making stuff like this, but I kinda feel bad because I don't know how to use this one:(.

If anybody can offer any hints I'd be very appreciative.
TIA,:flowers:

The curved one is very interesting. :) I think it could look rather stunning on the right bun.
I'd be inclined to attempt to insert it sideways (so it's neither curving towards nor away from your head). Then twist it once it's in so the curve is the way you want it.

I just think it looks rather dangerous to be inserting with the curve towards you ...

Oooh, fascinating! I am quite updo challenged, so I'm sure others could give you more and better ideas - to me, the curved stick looks perfect for a chinese bun. Worn curving outward.
