View Full Version : What's Your Favorite Length for Your Partner?

Angellen

What's your favorite length for your parter? (Imaginary is okay) ;)

For my friends, the ideal hair length for the heterosexual guys is between chin and mid-back in length. The heterosexual girls generally preferred shoulder-length or above on their guys. Of my bisexual and homosexual friends, hair should be either very short (pixie or nearly buzzed) or very long (waist or longer), on either sex.

Obviously some people are better suited to certain lengths/styles/cuts/whatever, but generally speaking, I was curious
as to other's preferences. Personally, I like my guys with hair that's long enough to pull back, and generally my favorite lengths are between shoulder and mid-back.

Now, I know that there are more critical aspects of
a relationship than hair length, but if Prince(ss) Wonderful showed up, how long (or short) would his(her) hair be?

My apologies if that was way too confusing. :o

Whatever length makes my partner happy is the perfect length for me.

I would love my husband to try to grow his hair to below the shoulders so he can pull it back, as it is gorgeous, thick, dark and almost straight (he inherited his Spanish mother's hair). Sadly for me, he is an engineer who cannot stand the thought of anything except the standard short haircut, and even tells the girls at the salon to not bother putting product in his hair.

Luckily I didn't marry him for his hair. He washes with herbal essences, so at least it smells nice. ;)

Having grown up in a major military area, I love the buzz cuts on men (but not high and tights, they are weird). I will sit and run my hand over it for hours, love it! I don't have anything against long hair either, as long as they know how to take care of it. I have just never dated anyone with long hair. Most long haired men I know have no idea what they should do with there hair. My brother has hair about my length and I have been preaching to him to either shave it, or learn to take care of it, cause right now it look horrible. When he next comes home we are going to have a heart to heart about conditioner.

I really don't care. I've dated guys with hair from pretty short (but not quite buzzed) to past shoulder length... it depends on the particular guy and what he likes, and what sort of hair he has.

I like the length of his hair best about one cm longer than when he just comes from the hair dresser (still short). I tried to find a picture of someone with similar hair but I only find pictures of guys who use hair gel and such. I'm sooo happy my bf doesn't do that!

I really don't mind. Whatever he likes...I do love long hair on men and women but short hair that suits them and that they're comfortable in is great too!

My partner's hair is dark brown, 1b with little ringlets from time to time, and it's about APL. I love it! :D

It's never been "short", but when it was short'er' I loved it too.

No such thing as a perfect length, I think! :cheese:

I am female and I would prefer my partner, if I had one, to have short hair (you know... buzz cut or however you call that nowadays). Ok, I wouldn't end a relationship if he decided to grow...

I like male - female stereotypes of the roman kind :D
He: Short hair, dark skin
She: Long hair, fair skin

No, it is not easy to be born 1981... should have been born 1598 - latest!

BF is perfect when he chooses how to wear his hair not me:D His hair's now past shoulders. He has a routine than he abandons his hair until it reaches mid-back or so and than trims back to shoulders. I ofcourse wish he could grow it even longer because his hair is so beautiful. Since we're allowed to dream here let's say knee length would be cool:lol: but I'll have knee length too:D

I like DH with the cut he has always had (well, since before we were dating). The good 'ole high and tight, also known as a fade. It just plain looks good on him.

I really don't care for long hair on guys ::hides from the tomatos::, but of course I can still appreciate the beauty of long hair on our guys around LHC.:flower:

Everything between a regular short cut and.. well.. I don't know.. ? I don't think there's a maximum length per say^^ As long as it's not longer than mine.. We can't have that -- I would be too envious!!
I just don't like buzz/military cuts or bald... I need to have some hair to pull/run my fingers through^^

Velvett, you had me in stitches. I guess I was so into the LHC mindset that I didn't even notice! Whoops!

Guenever, one of my friends feels the same way. He almost walked out of the [then] new James Bond movie (Casino Royale) simply because James' hair was not the luxurious type.

I love long shoulder-bra length like in mustketeer films But dh really suits short short hair you know like Elvis suited it-short.

But Long hair with a bit of wave to it does look lovely on a guy and rockers with classic straight fairytail ends look cool too.

With guys it's all about the muscles for me(or the make pretend musketeer/pirate/we wrestler costumes) lol who cares what's happening with the hair?

For me it's all about making sure the hair is longer than the beard. (Which also excludes bald.) Though if it's due to hairloss, I really can't complain as it's out of his control. Really it's his choice, but I like hair longer than the beard.

He has ist just a tad longer than in Military times.
I like really long hair on men too btw. depends on the guy. Alot look very good with waist length hair.

My DH has lovely reddish/auburn hair which is curly and wurly; I prefer it about an inch or so long, as does he. Way back in the '80's he had a mullet, and, looking back at it, it was really, er, not the best style for him. He has classically angled features, a combo of Welsh and German, and, unless he plans on starring in a romance novel from the 18th or 19th century, he's best off with short hair! (The thought of which actually gives me pause...)

Not quite sure why that is the case, but it seems to be a pattern!

I've discovered a preference toward longer hair on the guys I like. But I like whatever suits them.

However, if a guy has longer than average hair (chin length or longer) I just gape. xD The longer the better.

I like both styles on him.
But nowadays I really like militarystyle cuts.

As I general rule, I prefer longer hair on people... as long as it looks well-groomed.

My current partner's hair is a gorgeous color and I'd love it if he decided to grow it out again. His current cut is about 1-2" in overall length. It's short, but it looks good on him, so I don't mind.

I prefer hair to be extreme in at least one aspect - color texture volume length etc. The exception is style- I don't have enough of an appreciative eye for fancy cuts.

For length- very long or barely there :)

On my female partners, I like a cute bob. It's snarky and looks witty, if that makes any sense.

On my male partners... meh, I'm too homosexual for this part of the question. I really don't care. My attraction to males is very rarely related to appearance.

Not sure.... DH is growing his out, and I like it more the longer it gets right now. But it's curly and a bit past his collar in the back, dry. I'm sure APL will be great on him, when he gets there, but I'm not sure he'd go longer than that.

On women I like mid-back length to anything - even the floor :) If for whatever reason they're genetically incapable of getting it any longer, then I'm still attracted to terminal length hair - the dwindling ends et cetera. It's funny that despite my preference being so broad, I still rarely run into any women where I live that meet it!

For my DH, his medium length hair looks best a couple months after a cut. His hair is even finer and wispier than mine, so he really can't go too long. On me, I am really enjoying the layers I got cut in, and it is waist length at it's longest part. So far, I am really enjoying this length the best. In my early 20's, my hair came to the tops of my thighs. Hopefully, I can get it there again. My personal preference? I love really long hair on men, just as long as it's kept up nicely (clean, mainly!).

My DH laughs at me; before we got together, all of my boyfriends were musicians, and kind of wild (but fun!);). He says he knows he's not my type, but when it's love, and it hits ya, go with it I say! He definitely was not my usual preference, but over 26 years later, we are going strong, so I am glad I went with my heart! He laughs that he is too straight and sedate for me, but opposites must attract. I wouldn't turn him in for anyone else!:D

I think it depends a lot on the guy. I must say most I've dated actually had longer hair than me dreads or not(I've been longer than this.) However, I've not consciously sought it out or anything. I don't think! :?:

I like a guy with hair I can run my fingers though. Don't really care what exact length, just not a crew-cut!

My BF has wonderful curls, but he never grows his hair out past a fuzzy teddy bear look! He always thinks its just going to poof up, once he'd have some length to it, I know his curls would fall nicely.

Long. From my perspective...so that would be at least hip or tailbone. Preferably longer than mine.

I never expected "Can I call this floor length when wet?"

If it as my choice my partners hair would be waistlenght. It's BSL, which is nice too and it's growing. It is very curly, so it looks shorter and the longer it gets the more it curls, really funny!
He has had it waist lenght for a long time (long time ago before we met) so I know it can get that long. Short hair doesn't attrackt me. Shoulder lenght is the shortest I like.

it all depends on the person, I had one partner who kept buzz cut hair that was SOO soft.. but most of them have had longer hair, and thats great.. and I love DH's hair when its long.. he's had it short, boring, and nothing to play with, shoulder length, which I think looks wierd and long.. and long looks best.. I wish he would take better care of it, then it would get even longer... but its great to play with too.. and he'll wear a bun if I do it...

I don't really have a preferred length for DBF's hair, but he always looks so awesome with longer hair (longest I've seen him with is like ... maybe chin?) and I think he would look amazing with really long hair.
He also wants to grow his hair out. Maybe ther will be a time when he can grow it out very long, but for now, he is attempting for shoulder!!!! :cheese:
I can't wait. Whatever length makes him happy makes me happy, but I do want to see it very, very long if I can!!!

My husband used to have long hair (for him), the problem is his hair does not grow long so much as it does out.

For work reasons he now keeps his hair short.

I like his hair short better, but in general I like long hair on a guy.

I prefer longer hair on men. Recently, I rejected a couple of potential suitors because they had short hair and had strong objections to my preference (it's on my Yahoo! profile). That wasn't the only reason, but I would have forgiven other flaws if they'd had long hair, even to the shoulders.

My boyfriend has the most wonderful, thick, dark, and straight hair. He keeps it longish, which I love, and soon he's going to grow it out long enough to put into a ponytail. I don't think he would look as good with ultra long hair, but shoulder length or slightly longer would be great!

DH has always had short hair except for a short period of time several years ago. He grew it out to shoulder length because he never had done that before. Astonishment on my part because I NEVER knew he had curly hair. But I think his short hair suits him very well. That being said, the man can do whatever he wants with his hair and I'm fine with it.

If he had a different hairline, I wouldn't mind his hair longer but as it is my fiance really does suit short hair (not much longer than an inch at most). I can still grab it, and it's extremely ruffleable.

We have a pact: I will always have hair long enough to put in a ponytail as long as he never does.

For me, it depends on the person. There was one guy I was dating that had gorgeous long hair, and I could never picture him with short hair. He did eventually cut it, and he looked really strange without it...lol. Then there was another guy I liked that always kept his head shaved and I just can't picture him with long hair. I dunno, I just think that it has to suit their features and personality. Know what I mean?

LONG. I'm a sucker for men with long hair, a huuuge sucker.

The boy currently has hair that's around shoulder blade length. He wants it at around waistband length which is going to look stunning. Poor thing has the slowest growth rate I've ever seen and any growth is eaten up by curl. It looks like the weight is FINALLY starting to pull out some of the crazy insane curl though.

I prefer long hair, but it's not that important. When I was single I went out with some short haired girls and some long haired ones.

DW's hair got down to her waist for a while, but it seems to be a bit shorter than that right now, and hence shorter than mine. She trims her own hair, whereas it's a very long time since mine's been trimmed atall. I do wish she would grow it back down to her waist, though. I suppose if she hadn't had it that long before I probably wouldn't miss it, but because she did I do.

I always thought that men looked nice with longer hair...mostly shoulder length, depending on the guy,but sometimes longer-like classic length!

My SO looks good with a bob cut, which she only tried recently. When we met, she had hair that was between BSL and waist, but it was damaged, so she tried various cuts before she decided on a bob. It is absolutely lovely! But then again, I also think she would look absolutely stunning with long hair. Maybe along waist,or classic.

For some reason,I think the look of length depends on the color of your hair-natural or unnatural...(i.e,natural haircolors are nice LONG but funky haircolors such as blue and purple look better on shorter hair)

As long as my partner's hair makes her happy, it makes me happy.

At the moment her hair is less than an inch long because her family hasn't accepted her as a girl yet (she's mtf transsexual), but she plans to grow it out to at least shoulder length when she's finished transitioning. I'll love her hair at all lengths and, should she ever shave her head, at no length at all.

I'd love it if she kept her hair long enough to braid though, I love playing with long hair on girls and guys.

I would cry too :D I think it would upset me more than getting mine cut...

His is waist lenght and I doubt I'll ever have longer hair than him... what with mine being problematic, curly and of veeery slow growth.

I like long hair in people. I cannot help it, I don't even see guys with short hair, haha.

I think most people look better with chin to just past waist lenght, depending on features and texture of the hair, but of course there are exceptions, shorter or longer hair is best suited to some people.

I like it really short. I love it when he shaves his head super short. I know he likes it too, and I guess it's easier to handle as well. He does have scalp issues and they get bad when his hair is longer as well. So for many reasons I - we - prefer it short.

i tried making my husband grow out his hair. I'm the one who cuts it so i just refused, and he would never go behind my back and cut it with someone else. It got to just long enough to be in his eyes in the front and we were trimming the back to keep it from looking like a mullet.

Unfortunately i didn't like it, and the hair in his eyes was driving him crazy so i cut it to a faux hawk (read short everywhere and a little longer in the center top). I like it, i think the longer hair hid his beautiful features. So while i would like to one day try again for longer hair on him, for now we're keeping it at about 1/2-3/4" all around and 3/4-1" on the top center.

For me it really depends on the guy and what he looks best in. I've known guys I couldn't imagine with short hair, and others I think look awful in hair longer than a few inches. For DBF, I prefer about 2 - 3 inches, no more no less. Unfortunately he likes it buzzed short (due to scalp issues). As soon as I love the length, he cuts it! :wail:

It depends on the man. I like very short, buzzed hair on a rugged looking guy and I also like the short back and sides look on a man in a suit (I just find suits very sexy). I regularly buzz my DH's hair and I have to admit he looks great. His hair is very thick and wavy so it would look amazing if it grew long but he can't stand anything on his face. LOL.

Another type I like is a guy with long hair, preferably wavy. I think it adds instant sex appeal if the guy himself is attractive.

What puts me right off is a long beard, like Santa Claus. LOL. I LOVE beards on men but they have to be short, close cropped, like Sawyer in "Lost" (thudworthy hair and beard).

I am not into the scruffy look at all.

I like long hair that is clean and well taken care of. Obviously this goes for men and women.

I've got an attraction toward curly-haired guys it would seem and my DHTB has gorgeous waves and curls that just make me melt. I hate it when he gets his hair cut uber-short because then I have no curls to play with! I'd love to see him having his hair brush his collar, but he likes it a bit shorter than that so we compromise and his hair is a business-cut short but with the wave that I can still run my hairs through. He's got curls in the back right now though and I just love them. :)

DH & I are both bi, and we both love long hair, although neither of us would call it a preference, I don't think.
On women, I love long hair; I'm not into short-haired women. On men, I guess it depends on whatever is most flattering, although I would LOVE it if my husband would grow it out. He's part native american and has super-thick, shiny, wavy hair... he makes women jealous! I keep telling him to go to work at Trader Joe's (where I work), since they'd most likely allow him to grow his hair out.

What puts me right off is a long beard, like Santa Claus. LOL. I LOVE beards on men but they have to be short, close cropped, like Sawyer in "Lost" (thudworthy hair and beard).

LOL I am with you! My DH wants to grow his beard out..and his, being curly, would look horrible...a lot like what you describe. Yuck! :p

I  when DBF lets his hair grow out (about 5 or 6 inches has been the longest) but I understand that it isn't always what he wants. Since he looks good with crew cuts, I am okay with that, but I miss his hair. I guess it is natural to feel that way when you are a hair fanatic!

Any cut is cool by me, as long as it's feminine-ish. I'm not much into boy-ish cuts on girls. But I draw the line at really really short pixies.

It really depends on the guy. I like hair that's cut in a preppy hairstyle with some well done bangs, I know, I'm weird.

I like bohemian looks on myself, but I tend to go for clean cut guys. I do think shoulder length waves can be extremely hot, on the right man, though. No length would be a deal breaker as long as it was clean and kept in a ponytail, though I must say--very long hair would take some getting used to.

I prefer short hair on my partner... I guess although I love long hair on myself and other females I am a bit more old fashioned about long hair on my s/o.

Although I have seen some hair on males on this forum that is absolutely gorgeous.

Whatever makes him happy. Although BF is talking about growing his hair out a bit...not long, just not cutting it and letting it get bushy and unkempt. :scared: I hate the look of a regular man's haircut grown out and unshaped, but he can do what he wants with his body I guess.

Right now it's a couple inches long, very nice to run my fingers through. It used to be long, about mid-back, but I don't think he'll ever grow it out that long again.

I do not like long beards. BF generally has some permutation of scruff, stubble, or short beard. I like it all! :D

My boyfriend has beautiful long honey-colored hair and I love it! I would be so depressed if he ever cut it (or went bald!!). I think it's about 30 inches long, and he'd probably grow it to his feet if he could, and I fully support this - the longer the better! He kind of has a big round head so I think he would look pretty weird with a short cut anyway. :p

The last three guys I dated all had hair BSL or longer. I don't like anything shorter nearly as well. The guy before that had a typical man's haircut, and I found him the least attractive of all! I love heavy metal guys and their awesome hair, especially my wonderful sweet long hair boyfriend! :inlove:

Despite my love for long hair, I like my dh's hair short and neatly trimmed. :) It just seems to suit him so well. Even though I'm not a very formal person, I think my dh looks extremely handsome in formal attire. A coat and tie and neatly styled short hair just look fantastic on him. He has the kind of classic features that are suited to that clean-cut professional look.

Years ago in college, he had long hair and wore it in a ponytail. I have only seen photos, but I didn't think it was as flattering to his face shape and overall look. He'd be handsome either way and it doesn't matter to me how he wears his hair, but I definitely think he looks good in his current short style, swept to the side.

Hmmm... he'd look good with it rather short, but I prefer at least an inch or two. I can't imagine him with long hair, at all... But whatever he wants, is perfect! I rarely if ever notice guys' hair. Long hair, short hair, I don't pay enough attention to care. Though I do know some guys with some really nice long hair. (A redheaded curly, about APL+, yeah, his hair is awesome.)

Now, beards, I love. Someone in my class had a short beard for the longest time, then shaved it off and now he doesn't look like him. I mean, before he almost looked like Militest Gloriosus from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, but not anymore...

My beau is enough of a manly man to get away without a beard and still be hot, though. :inlove:

BSL and longer for me! The longer the hair on a man, the more attractive I find him. My BF has BSL hair. It was almost to his waist before he chopped it all off, but thankfully he regret it and is now growing back.

Although I have to agree with everyone else, I think my BF's hair is perfect no matter how long he has it.

Question for women who like long hair on their partners:

do you like it well cared for or messy?
I mostly don't like anything messy, unless just a little bit messy. But very messy is yucky to me. To me it looks best when guys have properly cared for and neatly combed hair. (the messy look makes me think that the hair would break off LOL)

I like hair on guys at least past shoulders. it is just what I grew up with and seems "normal" to me. I wish DH would grow his to waist though as it is so lovely (wavy and dark blonde to white blonde), he just does not like to take care of his though.

Alternatively, a man with one of those lovely round non bumpy heads can pull off just stubble which is a nice tactile pleasure.

I love long hair on girls but on guys i like it short. Thats probably because guys generally don't take care of it at all (someone already mentioned this). Funny thing is, most of my girlfriends have short, punky hair and my guyfriends have long, tangly, desperate-for-a-trim hippy hair.

My DP had a buzz cut when we got together (which I hated!) From there grew it out to past APL which was ok. Then he had a job interview so I cut is hair making it shortish on the sides and back and a little longer on the top, And now I LOVE it! :)

I like men's hair where my hubby's is, slightly longer than shoulder. Just enough to run my hands through and pull back into a stubbyish ponytail, but not super long. I don't dislike super long hair on men by any means, it just wouldn't suit him.

I guess I am in the minority, but I like short hair on almost all men. I dated one man with long hair, and it looked good on him (he also had facial hair, which I generally dislike, but liked on him). But, overall, it's short hair. DH had long hair when I met him (we knew each other for about 10 years before we started dating), and he looked ridiculous. He had to get it cut when he went to Iraq (civ. contractor), and fortunately he liked it. It certainly looks much better on him.

There are some men who look good with long hair, like Brian Kest (YUMMY!), but generally I prefer men with short hair.

I absolutely :inlove::inlove: waist length hair on men!

But, I also like it when men's hair gives them personality. Bald men are attractive if they wear their baldness with great confidence (think Patrick Stewart) - or the tough guy Sergeant Rock look is nice (flat top). Tossled hair is nice too though - the Johnny Depp look.

I can't stand short, neatly trimmed combed hair on men. For some strange reason it really bothers me.

Short-ish or medium (I've found that google imaging 'mens medium hairstyles' helps out with these vague terms :D) but not buzzed or anything remotely 'army like'. Haaaaaaaaaaate that. I am very fond of texture and 'playfulness' in men's hair, a little length to run fingers through is very nice.

Short. Not military style, but just short all around. 5mm on the top and 4mm on the sides. I know that because I cut my bf's hair :) I used to be obsessed with long hair on guys until I met my current boyfriend. Whatever he likes is fine with me, and I agree he looks best with short hair.

DBF had really cute, very "anime-esque" hair, [Longer sideburns, bangs to eyebrows, layered in the back, and not to mention, black and shiny!] But had to shave it to a buzz cut. He's still cute though. I admit, I cried and thought he'd be "ruined", but nope, he's still cute. Honestly it depends on the person. When it comes to girls I think I'm more into shorter hair, and with guys longer hair, but it REALLY depends on the person. Honestly I think I'm just attracted to thick, dark, healthy hair!

Mrs M has had every length imaginable over the years! My favourites were..

1) Long, which on strawberry blonde was amazing!
2) Pixie short, which was really, really, cute on her
and
3) Past shoulders and tightly permed, it produced loads and loads and loads of the most gorgeous curls

But over the years she's had really good stylists who've never given her a haircut which didn't look great, and she is world's most gorgeous redhead....

When my husband and I were first together he used to get a buzz cut which he would allow to grow out to maybe a half inch or so between visits to the barber. These days he shaves his head completely with a razor a couple of times a week.

He tells me cut his hair short when he began to go bald as he thought it would look better, but that if he wasn't losing his hair naturally it'd probably still be quite long - I've seen a picture of him where he was aged 19 with about APL length hair which was absolutely gorgeous - beautiful thick blond/brown curls.

I like his shaved head and think it really suits him but sometimes I wish he still had that length, or at least that I'd met him before he took it all off so I could have seen it in person!

He's balding like a lot of men his age, and I clip the rest to 3/8" periodically. I love his soft, short hair!

I cut/clip my husbands hair for him every 2 weeks or so because thats what he likes. Its short of the sides and a tiny bit longer on top. He has the most baby fine hair I've ever seen and when he was a teen he had it about chin length....not the best look on him but I bet it was insanely soft.

DBF doesn't care about his hair; whenever he goes to get it cut he just asks for it 'shorter' and lets the person do whatever they feel like.

In general I seem to prefer all kinds of people with short hair. Long haired women usually get my envy and awe, and I'm not fond of long hair on men for no good reason.
