Does anyone sleep with there hair loose? I wonder about the men on here as well how they deal with their hair and sleeping.

yes, all I do is lay my hair above my pillow, I tried braiding and putting my hair in a bun when I sleep but that just causes split ends at the nape of my neck

I always sleep with mine loose, I just move it off to the side so I'm not laying on it.

I've always haid long hair and always slept with it loose. I just pull it out to the side and up behind so it sort of streams over the back of the pillow. A couple times I braided it and coconut oiled the ends and then put them in socks to try to keep my bed clean over night(I'm new at this oiling thing).

I used to sleep with my hair loose up until about 3 or so years ago. This wasn't a problem before hand, but eventually I started trapping my own hair under myself and it kept pulling. I sleep with my hair tied back with a bobble, it's not a perfect fix though, the lump of hair behind my head can get in the way and wake me up every now and then. :(

I either put it in a loose braid or I put it in a bun.
If I wear it loose in bed my husband ends up laying on it and I can't move.....ouch! LOL:p

I sleep with it loose, either off to one side or over my pillow behind my head. For about three months I braided it every night, but every morning I had tangles galore, so I quit.

I sleep with my hair loose. I tried braiding, but that makes my tangles and breakage worse. And I just don't have that kind of commitment skills. I just toss it up over the pillow every time I roll over.

I've always slept with mine loose, it just goes off to the side.

Thanks for all the responses. I usually wear my hair up, but like the feeling of having nothing in my hair as well. I think I'm going to sleep with it loose for a while and see how may hair does.

I've always slept with it loose. I just let it do what it wants. Awhile back, I read it's a good idea to braid it or something to keep it from getting to tangled, or to get satin bedding. Well, when I braided it, I would would often wake with pains because it was being pulled in some way. It was a loose braid as well. Sometimes now I'll wake with some part of it being pulled, but at least now it's much less painful. I could get satin sheets, but I think I'd feel like a failed porn-star. :S

I slept with my hair loose until it got just below shoulder length. I am way too restless. (knock the lamp off the bedside table restless) My hair tangles so badly that I have to put it up. I put it in a pony on top of my head, with elastics down the length every 3" or so.

I always do a 3 strand braid near the ear, so I can lay the braid besides me. Thats most comfortable for me.

Sometimes I put my hair in a bun on top of my head. Sometimes a low braid. Sometimes in a silk cap.
I would not be able to put my hair over my pillow because sometimes my DH puts his arm behind my pillow & he would get tangled up in my hair, OUCH!

 I wear mine loose and over the side or top of my pillow. I had a lot of breakage from trying to wear a bun or braid to bed, mostly from a scrunchie bun I think.
I have my hair in a loose oiled braid now, I took a nap with it and that went well! So, maybe that would be worth trying again.:)

I am now sleeping with my hair loose, tucked to the side. Seems that all those short pieces in front were being caused by the braiding and securing I was doing with my hair at night. Sleeping with it loose cuts down on the damage for me, oddly enough....
Now those side pieces have grown out almost to the point where they will fold into the rest of the hair. Yay!

I sleep with my hair loose. I toss it over the edge of the bed and gravity keeps it there all night. :)

I usually do a single braid tucked into my shirt. Sometimes I'll do two. If I leave it loose I'll get a lot of tangles.

I sleep with mine loose, but it is not too long yet. I place it up above the pillow. I sometimes pull it back though, it doesn't hurt or give me breakage. I put it in a pony-bun on the top of my head, so it doesn't bother me when I roll around.

I sleep with my hair braided behind my head. I used to sleep with it loose, but I shift around a lot while I sleep and when I'd wake up it would be all tangled.

Mine's more or less loose inside a sleep cap, because I need my cotton pillowcase!

I sleep with mine loose most of the time. If I've braided it that day, I leave it in the braid for sleeping. That's due to my great laziness :p I don't have issues with tangles from sleeping with it loose.

I leave mine loose or plait it loosly. I like it like that, it ends up in these nice clump things that seems sort of hippyish I guess. I like the wave it gives me.

Mine is short enough that it's not too much of a bother to sleep with it loose. It's the um, cuddling, that can end up with a sharp "Ow! You're on my HAIR" :o
I've tried to braid it for sleep but it's got layers and it's still 'short' and kind of comes undone anyway. When it is longer, I will probably keep it braided.

I do 'cause it's about BSL right now, but I can't when it's waist length or longer. CERTAINLY not at classic. :scared:

I sleep with my hair in a braid secured with a nice hair-friendly scrunchie. I can't just leave my hair loose because it'll tangle itself up. I guess it loves hugging itself? I'm also not the type that stays in one position at night. Keeping it braided helps minimize any possible damage.

Usually loose. Sometimes I braid it.

I sleep with my hair in a satin cap. I like it because it keeps my hair from going all over the place at night, keeps it from breaking, and if I comb it before bed the hair is soft and still tangle free in the morning.

I wear it loose but I wouldn't advise this especially if you have longer hair! Wouldn't be the first time I couldn't move because my hair was trapped under me lol as soon as I know how to braid thats what im going to do!

I leave my hair loose when I go to sleep. I've tried sleeping with it in braids, but it always seems to pull at the back of my head.

I for some reason cant sleep whit it loose, so I always (or nearly) put it up in a high pony tail or a braid. thow braid waves and my natrual waves dont go togheter so have to wear it up the day after if i braid it.
and some nights i can turn around a lot so loose it will be very tangeled but if i put it up it never tangels

wow, it seems lots of people wear it loose sleeping. i never wear mine loose sleeping anymore. i sleep with it either in a single braid, or a bun using a scrunchie as the back bottom bit of my head. and sometimes wear a silk like piece of fabric i got in some small shop like a bandana around my hair, when i braid it.

My hair is not that long, but I do sleep with it loose. I tryed sleeping with it up, but is was annoying. And, I didn't like the way my hair looked the next day, if I wanted to wear it down.

I sleep with mine loose as well, and I do have to spend some time in the morning, getting rid of tangles!

I wear mine either way. If I go to bed with my hair already in a ponytail or braid, I leave it in. If my hair is loose, I leave it that way. Either way, like DavidN said, there are tangles to deal with each morning.

Up until recently, I always slept with my hair loose w/the odd time here and there that I would put it up. However, now that I have a sleeping partner, it often gets caught under my BF's elbow, which bothers me. So, I usually do a simple English braid secured w/a soft scrunchy even though my hair never really tangles and I do toss and turn a lot.
When I wake up, I use my horn comb and some refresh spray. If I want to wear it down, it dries in nice waves or for an updo, it helps it lay down. I'm just pleased that I can revive it easily without the need to get it completely wet!

Most of the time I wear my hair in a loose braid for sleeping. It helps prevent tangles and getting caught on it. Braiding my hair before bed also gives me a chance to detangle thoroughly once a day.
When I wash my hair in the evening (which has been the case all this winter) I leave my towel-dried hair loose and place it up over the pillow so I don't roll on it in my sleep. It's not 100% successful! ;)

I used to sleep with it loose, until its started getting wrapped around my neck really annoyingly. I think that was somewhere between armpit and BSL? Now I braid it every single night. Lots of tangles if I don't.

It depends on how much there is going on in my life. When everything is normal, I can sleep with my haire loose. When I'm stressed I have to braid it or make a bun on the top of my head, otherwise it's all tangled in the morning.
But I like braiding it in the evening, it's relaxing and I can detangle and play with my hair... :D

I usually wear a Buff, except when hennaing, in which case I wrap my hair in plastic. If I sleep with my hair loose, it gets rough and split, especially at the back, where it's hard to do S&D.

I always have it in a ponytail because I'm afraid I'll otherwise end up as either a fuzzball or strangled since i can't really lay still in bed :D and even in a ponytail it sometimes looks quite messy if i wake up .

I mostly sleep with mine loose, but it's never been very far past waist -- and I don't roll around much in my sleep, though I turn periodically if I'm awake for long. I usually flip it up over the pillow if it's getting in the way. Once in a while I'll put it up on top of my head when it's wet, either to avoid chilly strands dragging over me or to get more volume in the morning.

If I didn't put vaseline all over my face at night (a must for me), I'd happily sleep w/ my hair loose.

I sleep with my Knee length hair loose! I have tried a braid and a bun, but I always am feeling it pull and it wakes me up a lot. I just put my loose hair above the pillow or hang it off the bed.
I wear my hair up so much during the day, I really like to leave it loose at night. Hard to believe it's not in the way being down. It doesn't tangle either. I don't get it, but I won't complain!

I also leave it loose. It goes straight from the top of my head, over the back of the pillow and through the bars of my headboard on the bed an down the back of the bed. so, as I turn at night, it never gets trapped under me... it stays totally out of the way. I've slept that way for years. If I'm in a hotel or something where the bed has a solid headboard, then I have to resort to a braid, which always ends up under me and is uncomfortable!

I usually sleep with mine loose, laying over the top of my pillow. I have zero problems with tangling, but then I don't move around a lot while sleeping (plus my hair is always full of product/oil).

Right now my hair is so short that it really isn't an issue, but when it has been longer in the past I would either wear it loose and put it up over my pillow or sleep with a claw clip on the top of my head. My sister about died when I told her I did that, but I honestly never noticed it. I tried braids but I would end up lying on a bump at some point in the night and it would hurt. All that being said, I have to admit that I don't move around much in the night. I have either my 20 month old or my 3 year old (or both) next to me so I don't get to move around as much as I would like.
I'd say that at the length my hair is now, it's more troublesome than when it was longer. Right now the babies will get caught in it. My 3 year old actually likes to play with my hair while she's falling asleep so not being able to put it up out of the way leads to many tangles in the morning. One more reason to let it grow. :)

When I'm good I braid or do a neat scrunchie bun on top of my head. When I'm lazy I do a very messy scrunchy bun. I only sleep with it loose if I have a migraine.

If I leave it down it's a total mess in the morning due to my lack of being able to be still at night :D
So I'll put it into a braid or sloppy bun.

I cant wear it loose beacause I am a very unsound sleeper. I move around all night and my hair ends up in knots. I usually pull it into a bun at the top of my head and wake up with nice bunwaves. I also have a silk sleep cap that I really like to use, but my husband hates it with a passion, and makes fun of me:(. I still wear it when Im doing deep conditioning and oil treatments, or doing chores around the house.

I know I have said this before, but Lady Grace from Florida talks about satin pillowcases. I think she or anorher lady have a paatern for them and buy the stuff at JoAnn Fabrics or some such place. I think you can prolly buy satin pillowcases, however?

Braided here, too - I move around way too much in my sleep, I knew I had to stop wearing it loose when everynight I would wake up because of nightmares where I was drowning / being strangled. Extremely scary when the choking feeling is still there when you wake up, and it takes a few seconds to realize where it comes from = your hair. Plus, I sleep with my dog and she carelessly walks on the pillows.

I haven't tried that in a while, but i will soon, I got some breakage recently...but my hair tangles easily, so it's probably not a good idea. And it feels bad when I lay on it.

I usually sleep with mine in a loose pony or sometimes a braid. I can leave it loose but if my pugs are in the bed they'll step on it and wake me up (they seem to think my pillow is their personal dog bed - ahem!). :poot:

I never have any trouble with it when I sleep with it loose. Mine is fine, and not really prone to tangles at all anymore (Yay CO!!! :D). I would be too afraid of breakage if I were to braid or bun it...and the way our bed is set up, I don't have the flip-it-over-the-top option. The metal thingys holding the bed together near the floor would probably catch it.
