Hello, all!
I am a vocal performance major. At the end of March, I have two events for which I desperately need hair advice.
On a Friday, I have an audition for a university. I'll be singing for several music professors. The dress standard for this is somewhere between "business professional" and "cocktail"; think "business professional" with the possible addition of heels, slightly bigger (but not huge) jewelry, etc.
The following day, I am singing in a voice competition. Dress for this is pretty much the same as I've outlined above with a little more variation; some will be wearing (non-formal, needless to say) dresses.
Now, this is North Texas in March. This means that the weather may be in the sixties, or it may be in the eighties, or it may be in the forties. Yesterday the high was 85; today, it was 60.
How, then, should I wear my hair? It's now BSL with layers ranging from BSL to APL, and very wiry.
I tend to look older than I am; while I'm 21, I carry myself "older" and am often mistaken for a faculty member at school. I don't mind appearing mature or not being dressed at the pinnacle of fashion, but I really would prefer to look a bit closer to my age, as I'll be competing against people in the same age range. I also have a somewhat roundish face. Tight updos are not a good look for me; somewhat looser ones are okay. I have long sideswept bangs that can be tucked behind my ears or left out.
I could wear it down, but my hair tends to not stay good-looking when down for a long period of time; it gets frizzy, the top gets flat, and everything else POOFS. This smilie IS me: :silly: On the other hand, that's with just aloe gel or aloe and a bit of oil. I could try some sort of shine serum or gel or what-have-you if anyone can rec a good product for curl definition. Needless to say, I'll experiment with whatever 'do I choose before the actual days in question (and nothing says that the same style is required for both days).
I'm actually vaguely considering a snood for the competition. I'll drive for an hour and a half before I get there, and then I'll spend much of the day standing around in a warm and humid and close-packed environment. I'd really rather not be in the ladies' room and touching up my hair every hour. A snood would be distinctive, a metallic-colored (either copper or gold) one would go well with my belt and shoes, and would, if it stayed in place, certainly mean that my hair could be left alone all day.
However, I've never worn one before. It might just look dorky. And I'd rather not spend $30 on a hairtoy that doesn't work well, know what I mean? As it is, I'm going to need to purchase a new skirt and a jacket for these events.
Any suggestions? Sorry this post is so infernally long. :p :silly:
