I know we did this last year and I would like to do it again this year. I needed some inspiration to keep growing. I braided my hair last night and wondered how many bumps I had now. This is a messy braid and not real even, but it was bump worthy. :p

lovely braids.. but what does the number of bumps mean... what is it supposed to signify (is that the right word).. i doesnt mean the hair is longer.. because people whos hair is thinner than mine but shorter have more bumps..

i wish i had seen this thread earlier.. i took a pic of my braid with the mac computers but i didnt save it to photobucket so i cant post it.. bummer.. oh well it was a poorly made braid anyway.. not nearly as lovely as yours's (how does one make a plural possessive of the word you)..

Also the thinner the hair the more bumps. So you can have very long hair but if it is thick you will have less bumps.

I counted 14 bumps in this pic...but it's looser than one of my normal braids. The one I'm wearing now, actually, has 25 bumps...so you can imagine the difference that a tighter braid will make, as far as bump-counting. Thank you all for playing along! You're absolutely right, the bumps are meaningless and vary from person to person due to varying thicknesses. But, I do like to count them because it shows me my hair really is growing as I get more and more bumps. I braided mine until I couldn't braid any more. I wasn't looking for a tassel.

I love being able to see the differences in my pictures. I do not like seeing how much of my thickness I have lost, though. It seems to be coming back now *knock wood*. My circ was down to 3.5" and is now back up to 4". :cheer: I will be cutting back to somewhere between waist and hip sometime this year, so hopefully my thickness will gradually return as I continually trim.

There are some seriously beautiful braids here! I love seeing the differences in textures and color patterns. And for those of you who have no bumps yet, you have much to look forward to! :grin: I just think this is fun! I love looking at all the different braids. How different the straight hair braids are from the curlies. :inlove: They're all so beautiful!

I could have gone lower, but I would have had to put an elastic in the middle of the braid. I had to "borrow" from one of the hanks of hair as it was (see bump 11). My hair just isn't even all the way down so it's hard to do a good braid. :rolleyes:

Thank you rapunzhell13, getting a compliment on my hair was definitely a good start for my day :) I thank henna and indigo for making my hair look like it is in a good condition, even though a big part of it has been abused with bleach and highlights less than a year ago.

I'm just so happy to be able to do this one this year, as this time last year my hair was only JUST able to go into a little pony stub with a lot of clips.
When my hair is longer, braids are my live-in style as they are so comfortable, so I'm thrilled to be able to do one again, even if it is teeny (yet thick - the hair from my fringe/sides only JUST reaches the braid, so it will thicken up a bit more over the coming months).

Mine is a thin rat-tail of a braid that tickles my tail bone even when braided. 43 bumps with a three inch fairytail end! I guess there are some benefits to fine hair.

I have 22-23 bumps depending on which side you count. That's the best braid I can do. Need to improve my braiding skillz. It never starts off as tight as I would like.

On the other hand, my hair must be so fine/thin compared to many..I get 26 bumps give or take - not exactly comparable to those thick braids with a lower bump count but way longer length! This is a picture from today. (Taken with flash and colour-adjusted as the original was not that great. :o) I think I tend make my braids quite tight (hence the kinkiness), and here I was shameless in braiding almost all the way to the tiny, tiny end.
I counted 26 bumps.
Looking at a couple of old braid pictures, I see that in Dec '07 I had 18, and in Sep '08 I had 21.

I'm feeling deficient in the braid bump dept. haha. My hair is 36 inches long and juuuust touching whatever it is I'm sitting on when it's down. At hip length, according to my album photo, I had ten bumps. Now, I have eleven. 11! And that's all! How wimpy, man.

I tried to get a clear photo of it because I have weird patterns on the back of my shirt that make it hard to see them from behind.

And I'll be honest... that was killing my tassle. Normally, I leave a tassel, like this... now there's only 9. And I took this last week, so it's still very much tb when it's down.

Deficient??? No! Not at all. Your hair is gorgeous and your length is very long and pretty. One reason you have fewer bumps is that your hair is so thick and even all the way down. If there was more taper, you'd count more bumps. But I think you'd probably rather have the thickness. :)
I just counted my braid and there are 16 bumps. That's with a 2" tassel. Earlier today, I had a braided Chinese bun in, so when I took it down, I counted the bumps in each of the two braids. If I split my hair into two braids (so half the thickness) then I get 21 bumps. My hair was 41" the last time I measured it. :)

I wanted to do this so I could keep up with my growth, and since I braided all the way down the first time I did this, I kept at it for accuracy. It's inspiring to look at the pictures, months apart, side by side, and see how much longer my hair has gotten.

Well snce we're talking about braids.And btw everyone's is beautiful!I have a question.My hair is a ton of layers and I am inbetween APL and BSL right now.(longest my hair's ever been!) but i can't braid my hair in one braid.My arms don't bend that way and when I pull my ahir to the side I miss a section of my hair.

I tied it off right before it tapers tapers (about 4" past the tie, which takes up an inch), and the bumps just....well, let's just say I got to 70 before I stopped, and I still had about 2" worth to braid and I lost count. :oops: The very tips of the tassel are at the bottom edge of that image. So, er, yeah, I'd take less bumps for less taper (or more thickness, or even no more shedding fits which might help both of those last two :lol: ).

I got the pictures! I tried about 5 times and just couldn't divide my hair into 3 equal sections so I couldn't braid all the way down. I ran out of hair in one section. :D Anyway my bump count is 14. DH's bump count is 15. His hair is 10" shorter than mine but very fine. I think I can out-bump him if I braid more properly but I didn't want to try again. :)

What a fun thread! I like it because I have been a crazy bump counter since the earliest childhood :D There, my bumps in a sleeping braid which I always make on my right side. A straight braid is impossible for me to endure during the night's sleep :( I have still my layers which I'm trying to grow out..

I love this thread! I think I get 5, maybe six if I braid tightly.. My hair is 27,5" long, top of bsl right now. I have taper because my hair is layered, at least last 4" or something like that... that's why I usually leave a longish tassel as well, so I don't have tons of pieces sticking out of the braid.
