I've recently been thinking about trying henna for my hair. I've only gotten peroxide highlights and coloring in my hair once (biggest mistake ever! I've just now gotten my hair back to health) and so if I were to ever color it, it would be with henna.

I've really admired Auburn shades of hennaed hair. My brother has flaming red hair and I've always wanted some sort of shade of red, but a more subtle one, like auburn.

Judging from my picture, what shade of henna should I use to achieve a deep kind of auburn like this....

I have medium brown hair with red undertones so I don't think it's too far away of a color to blend well.

any advice?

If the pic in your avatar is you and the color is accurate, I don't think you will need much henna to get the color in your example pic. I use a henna-cassia blend to get less dramatic color. If I were you, I would try maybe 1 part henna to 5 parts cassia to start, then move on to more henna if that's not enough color. Strand testing is a common recommendation, but I haven't had much luck with it. This article (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=7) has a lot of great information. Good luck!

oh yes, I'm with Avalonna, don't do a full head henna, maybe just a gloss or a henna cassia blend. Do keep in mind though that it'll be much more intense in sunshine. And your hightlights are going to be brighter than the rest. Strand test!:)
