I'm so excited! It's the first time I ever used anything like that. As soon as it was delivered, I went straight to the bathroom and put in on my hair! I bought it off of Amazon and it is the extra virgin coconut oil. I did not realize how hard it was until I tried to scoop it out with my hands and I couldn't, so I used a spoon. Wow! A little really goes a long way. The extra I had in my hands I just rubbed it all over my hands, and it soaked right in! I was reading that you can use it on your hair, skin, and in cooking! The problem is, it smells so good I want to take a spoon and eat it LOL! I have to be careful though, I am on a low carb diet, but it does say 0 carbs!

coconut oil (raw, extra virgin) is INCREDIBLY good for you! if you have the urge to eat it, do it.... medium and long-chain fatty acids can actually help you lose weight.

mmm. coconut oil...

I too have a taste of it whenever I use it on my hair. I love it... doing a heavy oiling in a bun right now :)

The organic cold pressed extra virgin coconut oil I bought of Amazon smells incredible and is working wonders! It's probably my most favorite oil tried thus far. I have this huge 54 oz. one:

I love it so... and free shipping to boot. You cannae go wrong!:eyebrows:

one tip I will mention. I recently learned on another thread that if you buy a large jar of coconut oil like I did it's best to keep it refrigerated as it will extend the shelf life of it. What I do is keep a smaller jar in the bathroom for use. When my little jar gets empty I refill it from the jar in the fridge. If it's too hard from being in the fridge then just let it warm up a bit before scooping into your smaller container.

I recently took another small container of it and gave it to my Mom and Sister so they can try coconut oil out as well.

Also, on a humorous note.... is coconut like the catnip for dogs? I ask because whenever I am applying it to my legs or hair my two Boston Terriers sniff it out and end up finding me no matter what room I'm in and proceeding to lick my legs and hands. Today, after heavy oiling my hair and bunning it I took some extra coconut oil and melted it in my hands and rubbed it on my baby's backs... they LOVED it. They spent the next few minutes licking each other like crazy!

Yes, I have to tell my dogs to stop licking off all my coconut oil :)

I like to squirt it at them in the bathroom and watch them lick it off the floors.

I also usually eat a little chunk of it whenever I refill from the tub in the fridge :) Tasty.

me too... I eat a little chunk every time I use it LOL. I have to say, slicking my dogs coat with a bit of coconut oil made them look so sleek. They are boston terriers and the coconut oil made them look like little oily seal pups LOL They LOVE it. So, that's interesting that your dogs love coconut oil too. :) Maybe it's a dog thing... should try making coconut flavoured doggy treats!

For some reason I read somewhere that one should avoid eating coconut oil (among other oils), because they got the 'bad' kind of fatty acids(?) that can increase the chances for heart problems and cancer. Something like that.

No, actually coconut oil has the "good" kinds of fat. Long fatty acid chains :)

I'm 100% positive about reading this. I remember noting the coconut oil because before LHC I didn't even knew it existed, and now I saw it mentioned.

Thanks for those.
I think I read about saturated fats in coconut oil actually, not fatty acids or anything.

But on the other hand:

Oh, I don't know. I'll just keep using it on my hair. My hair really like those saturated fats hehe

Is that 54 FLUID ounces? How much does it weigh? At Organic Creations, I get 2.5 pounds for under $15 bucks plus shipping......

It comes in a vacuum-sealed bag (less wasteful packaging, but I don't mind because I have large empty jars that I refill.....

I have some vircin coconut oil but have never used it on my hair...do you just melt a bit in your hands and smooth it over your hair to moisturize and protect against split ends? Anything more fancy than that?

Nope - that's it. I massage it into my hair from about shoulder-length down; I don't like oil near my already oily scalp.

Funny - I love the smell of coconut oil, and I love coconut, but it never occurred to me to taste my coconut oil. That's o.k. - I already love too many fatty things as it is. I use olive oil in cooking.
