maybe its heredrity? did your mother go grey early? or maybe you just notice it more in your darker hair whereas i wouldn't notice because my hair is fair and practically grey anyway

Oh, my goodness!! This is really terrible! So scary!! :scared:
No, I'm not talking about the fact that you found some grey hairs. The really horrible part, in my opinion, is that you are only 22 and already terrified of looking old!
As someone with a whole head of grey hair, I can assure you that life does not come to a screeching halt because of some grey hairs. Really. Furthermore, at the tender age of 22, there should be very little risk that anybody would mistake you for a grandmother, no matter what colour your hair is. :agree:
If some of your hairs have decided to turn grey, I'm afraid I don't know of any way to change that back and make them start growing out the usual colour. However, you can camouflage the grey by dyeing your hair.
This leaves you with two choices:
1. Learn to love and accept your greys,
Or failing that...
2. Dye your hair.
If you don't want to subject your hair to chemical dyes, there are natural options. Henna, indigo, etc. The Article Section has lots on information on this.
Okay, so I'll admit that I'm on friendly terms with my greys. Now. But I did dye my hair for 15+ years, because my greys starting taking over long before I was mentally prepared to accept them. So please don't think I don't know the feeling. I certainly do. :flower:

Having a few white hairs doesn't mean you will necessarily turn completely gray overnight. They may only be early risers and it will take you years to convert your full head. Oh, and 10-15 is not a large number of hairs by any means!

Hm, what's the exact age?
I have a strand of white hair since the age of 16! And still people are estimating my age a lot younger then I really am, although my teenage days are long over now... ;)
You can either dye your hair or accept it, becoming a bit more sparkling and glittery.

My hair had gone mostly gray by the age of 25. So I dye and have always dyed and can't ever imagine going gray.
You have options but the doctor and/or a nutritionist are good places to start. It's important for you to understand what is happening and why. Sometimes stress or diet can take a toll. :)

You could probably camouflage the white hairs with tea rinses or herbs. Nightshade has a great article on colouring hair naturally, the link is in her signature. Especially if they are 'first whites'. Some people are not ready to go grey at any age and others can['t wait. I sort of fall into both camps. I want red hair or white hair and I cant decide which :)
Honestly? I wouldnt be freaked out about it, and if you want to hide them, look into natural colourings. You could even colour them funky shades with things like henna (a scattering of red sparkles) or henna&indigo - oooh or even indigo on its own - 15 blue hairs would look cool! Or even blackberry juice or something.

I had a full white streak by my late twenties or so. I kept it for a while - I got lots of compliments on it and I still got carded! So, it's not going to make you look like a grandmother.
But going grey early runs in my family; while neither of my parents did, I had uncles who were totally grey by 30. So it can be genetic.

@Aditi
Don't be afraid of 10-15 grey hairs!
I had the same amount of greys at your age. Now, about 15 years after I discovered my first grey hair, my greys are not visible in most up-dos and if I wear my hair loose. They are visible in Frenach and Dutch braids, but I no longer care about that. So you certainly won't turn completely grey overnight. :)

I'm 24 and recently found a giant thick BRIGHT white hair right on top of my head for everyone to see. It's only one but I still freaked out...though now I'm perversely proud of that hair :D . I really don't think you'll be going grey anytime soon, so don't panic! And I'm pretty sure that no one will notice a few hairs so *breathe* it's going to be ok!

I had a few white hairs in my twenties too, and 15 years later I have a few more, they've increased a bit (every inch to an inch there's a white hair now), so it doesn't mean you are going to go gray overnight or within a few years. It's perfectly normal for white hairs to appear.
If they bother you, pull them out, or snip them off.
I don't think, though, that it's anything to freak out about!

I found my first whites last year at 22. I don't think it's such an odd age to find them, really.

Now, correct me if I am wrong, but if one has not dyed their hair doesn't it really have a million shades?
I have very blonde hair, but if I actually look at each hair, I have white, blonde, red, brown, and black hairs.
Maybe you just have a few that are lighter than the rest of your hairs. Sort of natural highlights?
I am not trying to be insensitive, but for 10 or 15 hairs on your whole head I would not stress out about it. I bet no one but you and your mother even know about them. ;)
Some ladies around here love them, others hide them. The choice is up to you.
I think you have georgeous hair in your Avatar, I wouldn't change a thing.

it's alright, I remember finding white hairs when I was 7 and I have several friends who had white hairs since they were freshman in high school. I'm not talking about a few strands but like 20% of their hair was white.
if you feel uncomfortable I would suggest dying them.

I want long silver hair! :D

I think I have maybe around 5-8 white hairs and I am 24. I started having one or two in elementary though, maybe it won't be so bad :) We all get old haha...I am horrible though, I pull whites. I have one where I part my hair, so that really gets to me. Plucky plucky. When they take over, I suppose I will have to look for other ways to fix the problem.

I had my first greys a few years before you. I did not have a significant amount of grey hair for the next 12 years. You won't be turning into a grandmother overnight and tea rinses could work very well for you in the interim.

I agree with CindyLea1. My hair is many different colors, the dominant one being red, but there is also white, blonde, and brown. I think it would be really cool to have gray hair, too. I guess I'm just an easy going person.

Many people get a few grey hairs at your age, then don't have any new ones for years and years. It doesn't mean you will have grey hair any time soon. I'd just ignore them if I were you.
Things to worry about come at us all from every direction. Don't sweat the ones like this. They usually don't turn out to be worth the worry. :flowers:

Hii Everyone, first of all i would like to give a BIGGGG Thanks to all of you. I truly appreciate your advices and suggestions and the important one motivation to accept my grey hair :blossom:. Yesterday i checked in with my doctor and informed him about this matter. He told me there are several reasons for me to have them, it can be due to lack of some essential vitamins, hormonal changes which is common at this age, lack of blood circulation and also the one which CindyLea1 has stated in this thread. I must say i am very much relieved now by his and your answers. Thanks you all soo very much for your help :flower:

I'm glad you've had a chance to check things with your doctor. I found my first at 15 or 16. It's actually quite normal from what I've been reading. Silvery white runs in my family - concentrated mainly in the front til later 40's and 50's. Think Della Reese - Touched by an Angel.
Here's the important part. Because you are getting this info early enough. Really give some thought to what you might want to do later on when the silver threads start to dominate. Skim thru the Salt and Pepper thread. There are many of us who would not choose coloring if we had to do it over again. It is important to remember those white hairs are far more fragile than the rest of your hair.

One of the biggest things about white / silver / gray hair that took a while for me to realize: It's not even about the silver hair. Think of the hair as the 'picture' frame around you - your face / skin / eyes actually become the focal point. Looking at the pics in the book - it has helped me to see what the author was saying - the hair is like a little arrow pointing to you. Do you have the confidence to be you? My biggest regret was not taking better care of my skin. Just something to think about ... HTH :D

If you ever DO decide to dye your hair, I HIGHLY recommend trying out a shade of Robert Craig haircolor about 2 or 3 shades lighter than your natural color. It won't "lift" or lighten the color, but it will definitely blend away the gray. And, my hair has ALWAYS been super healthy when using this stuff. I've had waaaaay better results than w/ conventional supermarket and salon dyes.

White hair is awesome, dude. I wish I had some white strands.
It's a shame that, in our soceity, white and grey are hair colours that are automatically associated with old age. When it comes down to it... They're just colours.

some believe that a change in natural hair color represents a change in spiritual status, white or silver hair is an indication of an elder, or wise one. see your body as a perfect and unique magical creation of the universe. your colors and textures, shapes and smells, are all divinely created, like a beautiful flower, crystal, peacock, and all of the other magical creations we share our world with. (have you seen an albino peacock, by the way? http://www.fotothing.com/photos/eeb/eebfb3735f88fe5a1eba257079559c82_731.jpg it isn't any less beautiful without any color...)
and remember, you are young now, its easy to forget and you don't yet have the perspective that you get from more years of experience, but its silly to waste precious time worrying about getting older, cherish every moment and be thankful that you are alive now, because this moment is all we ever have.
dont stress out about 10 or 15 white hairs. of all the things that will age you, stress is one of the biggest contributors. be thankful for the 100,000 other hairs on your head that you like the color of!
you create your life experience, you attract things into your life by focusing your attention on them. what you think is going to happen, usually does, because you make it that way. its been proven in quantum physics, that in experiments, particles tend to react in whatever way the experimenter expects them to. this means that we are actively affecting our environment and experiences by the thoughts that we have, so if you are thinking a lot about grey hair, even if you are thinking "i dont want grey hair!" what you are putting out, what your energy and attention is focused on, is grey hair, and that is exactly what will become manifest in your reality. you can do an experiment, and pick a random image, like, a unicorn, or a panda bear, something that you don't see everywhere all the time, and visualize an image of whatever it is though out your day, draw a picture of it, focus your attention on it, and see how long it takes for you to notice that thing appear in your environment, like seeing a little girl walk by on the sidewalk with a unicorn pin on her packpack.
so focus your energy and attention on what you really like about your life, yourself, your body, your hair, what you are thankful for, and what you want to create, focus on what you want, not what you dont want!!!

I don't think it necessarily means anything is wrong with you at all. It's quite normal to have some white hairs in your 20s. In fact, I think almost everyone has some at that age, they just might not know it!
LindaK has some great advice in her post:
Skim thru the Salt and Pepper thread. There are many of us who would not choose coloring if we had to do it over again.
I agree! Although, if you do want to dye your hair, as Aisha recommended, henna is a healthy way to do it. I used a mix of henna and indigo which produced a lovely dark chocolatey brown and kept my hair healthy, and also has made it easier for me now to grow out my hair without a line of demarcation that chemical dyes make.

This is absolutely true!! I have seen many women (and men) with some silver hairs who are very obviously young looking in their faces. It doesn't make them look old at all! It's pretty cool actually, it makes them look so beautiful and unique! There are some really cute pics in the Salt & Pepper thread to give you some inspiration! :-)

What a wonderful idea, Linda! Although my silvers are coming in at a shocking rate at the moment, this is exactly why I tend to love, rather than hate, them. I wear a lot of silver jewelry. My eyes have a grey tone to them, and I have a ruddy complexion - all of which will, I think look better framed by more silver than by ashy hair colored hair.
And if the OP has dark eyebrows, even better for EVENTUAL (one or two white hairs are a different story) natural grey/white/silver hair - this look is gorgeous, as many of the women on the going grey...site clearly show.

I think you've gotten a lot of good advice here already, and I agree that silver hair does not necessarily mean "old" or even looking old. Nor does seeing white hairs at an early age mean that you will turn completely grey prematurely; I saw my first grays at age 28 or so, and it took ten years before they were really noticeable to anybody else. Now I'm almost forty (gulp!) and still get mistaken for ten years younger, even with the grays.
The other thing I would point out is that your grays may be more noticeable to you not only because of your color, but also because of your length. People with longer hair can also see more of their hair because they can pull it forward to look at. If you check for damage and/or s & d your split ends, you also probably look more closely at your hair than those with short hair do. Just something to keep in mind.

I got about the same number of whites at 12. They hang out. It' kind of nice.
I freaked out and used to pluck them, but now I just realize that it's the way my hair is, and I like them. I relaxed about it.
Don't worry about plucking or dying the hair! Give yourself a couple of months to get used to it. If you have 100,000 hairs on your head, 10 or 12 white hairs aren't going to be noticable to anyone but you- so give yourself some time to think about it.
You may end up liking them. :) I did after a while! PS- I'm only 25, and no one but me has ever noticed the greys or the whites, they just assume it's blond due to my age even though I have dark hair. :)
