Hello, I wanted to buy myself some new hair toys.. I just went through a horrible breakup and shopping helps!!
I was tempted by the flexi8: but I found out they are nickel plated.. and I am allergic.

Any suggestions for websites (that ship to Italy and accept credit cards?) I found this one: http://www.argusdesigns.com/index.html
Any of you have ordered from it?

Plus: how do you use hair forks/prongs? And what size should I get (thick wavy hair, lots of it: pictures in my album) I have trouble with hair sticks also.

Thank you

Sadly, Argus Designs has recently gone out of business, as discussed in this (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=1034) thread.

Maybe Ron Quattro (http://stores.ebay.com/Quattro-Originals_W0QQsspagenameZMEQ3aFQ3aSTQQtZkm) has something that you might like. He accepts paypal - a system that is very easy to sign up to using your credit card account (and free for private users). I contacted Ron once, and he assured me that all of his metal hair toys did not contain any nickel - though it would pay to contact him and get that verified again before you order a particular model.

Best wishes - hope will will soon be feeling better!

Thank you! didn't know about argus!!

I hope I'll feel better soon: the guy left me after a year of long distance relationship (he went in the Uk for work, he promised he would come back after the first 3 months, then after 6, then 9, then a year: and after that he said he was not coming back bcause he had a great job and that long distance is too hard -but that if he had stayed here we would surely be together since we are great together- so he broke up with me, without warning, after giving me 2 months before a ring and saying he would have married me tomorrow if he could.. anyway, it's complicated)

I like the products from the store you linked, but I would like not to buy from ebay if possible, but from a regular store: seems safer, isn't it (have never ordered anything online, except ryanair flights!)

What kind of hairtoy are you looking for? Sticks, forks, barrettes, slides...? Wood or metal?

Wow, sounds like the ex didn't know what he wanted, he just kept stringing you along, and making you wait and wasting your time. I hope you feel better soon, and sometimes a little retail therapy can help.

There are many good sellers on etsy.com. I like Nightblooming, yourcrowningglory, etta mae, and amadlife, and a couple others I'm forgetting right now.

Ficcares are also wonderful clips ficcare.com Pricey, but amazing and pretty too.

And Ketylo, treasures from the trees make nice corkscrew-like hair sticks. This would all be stuff from the US, but I'd take advantage of the weak dollar if I were you! :)

The one I'm most interested in is a fork (never used one) either wood or metal, but metal has to be nickel free..

I would also like something to hold my french twist (are those called slides? something like this (http://www.argusdesigns.com/products/hairchitecture/hairtec_sq.html))

Thanks!

I have a Ficcare Maxima, bought it in the Uk when visitng the x.. love it, but the L doesn't hold my french twist since I have thick hair.. I love it for buns and take it with me when studying (hate hair in my face) for a quick updo on the go.

Yeah, my ex has the Peter Pan syndrome.. I told him so, and he agreed. we split up in a nice way, I was very classy, so he doesn't have anything to say to me and has just to feel GUILTY because he behaved like **** :demon:

Wooden forks you say?^^
I just ordered one from 60th Street on Ebay - beautiful work and very fast shipping! :) It's a suggestion since you specifically asked for forks..

http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZ60thstreet

ETA: You asked about what size to get?
Well, if you make a bun and you have an idea of how much of the fork you want to be visible on either side, you can measure it.. I used one of my sticks to see what the diameter of my bun was.. and found out that 4,5 - 5" total length is perfect for me when it comes to forks =)

Sorry about the hard break-up btw :/

They are new. On etsy at least, and I would assume most on ebay are new as well. If not, they'd say.

You're welcome^^
Well.. I'm sure that you can get used stuff on Ebay as well..
But the sticks/forks from e.g. Graydog, Catstyle, 60th street etc are new.. In these cases the Ebay sellers are also the artists..

I just placed an order with Martha Baerreis (http://www.hairsticks.net) to replace a fork I´d grown out of. She´s a pleasure to deal with and offers really superb craftsmanship.

Or try Monkthemonk on eBay. He does wonderful work, although most of his stuff on eBay isn´t especially noteworthy these days. You could do a custom order, though.

Thanks! how many prongs would you suggest? BTW: I just managed to do my first french twist with one hair stick!! i'll add the picture to the album tomorrow but I am so proud of myself!!

ETA: also, any suggestion on length from baerries?

I love three- and four-prong forks, but Baerreis does regular two-prongs mostly. Length? No idea. I ordered 4.5 and 5 inches, and I´m at waist, medium thickness. I bet you need more.
