I just stumbled upon this video:

check it out! I'm sure in my carelessness I've rushed a braid at night similar to this but i didn't pull tight enough so didn't get the zig zag look.
Is the pulling bad? I'd assume it would be similar to back combing?

eta- this looks good too

Yeah, I'd think that wouldn't be the greatest for the hair cuticle. Probably once in a blue moon is OK, but I'd probably not want to do it anyhow since my hair is pretty fragile.

It DOES look cool, though. ;)

I like the braid, but I wouldn't do it on my hair, it looks a little rough with all the pulling :p

Ouch ! She's pulling hard ! Anyway, it's a pretty braid.

You could probably do it without pulling so hard.

April Elf's done it.

Ah yeah, I remember that top one, indeed there is no need to pull hard at all. :)

Nr2 I don't have to try at all.. one of her three braids is my whole one! It would look pathetic.

GlassEyes beat me to it! I agree. Sometimes you can do things without having to do stuff super hard. I mean you can bun hair so tight it hurts, but can achieve the same look by being gentle, too, can't you? The latter is so much nicer.

As GlassEyes said, I have done the first one, and I too was worried about pulling the hair backwards on itself. I tightened it as gently as I could and it worked fine. Still, I wouldn't want to do the style too often.

(Dail-up is still loading the second vid. :o ... )

Oh, I liked this one when I saw it, but that's one braid I can't do :o My hair just slips so it won't look like that.

For me the braiding looks a bit weird :undecided
And she's really pulling a bit too hard, that hurts if you just watch it ^^

That second braid looks amazing. I need to remember that when my hair gets longer.

That's how my rope braid turns out if the two pieces aren't of equal size.

That's cool... but she's being pretty rough - yeah, I would liken it to backcombing, although probably not AS bad.

I like the first one and would think that you could do that without yanking your hair out

The second one I love, however can't even do a fishbone yet.

Cool styles!

I got a message that the first video is no longer available.

as for the second one... i like the look but as long as it takes me to do a herringbone braid I can't see me be willing to pull it out of whack once it's done :)

the first is basically braiding, but 2 pieces really thin, one thick, and pull hard on the thin strands, it ends up looking like a zig zag.
haha touche Pegs! :)

I absolutely LOVe the second one!

I just subscribed to Sharon Blain's channel, and now I have to watch every single video! Aside from some pretty horrendous teasing and pulling in some of the styles, they look quite spectacular. Very imaginative!

I love this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEuf5joyPYk
