How to google and find stuff from old LHC!

While we're all still feeling around at our new home, there are still things we may get nostalgic about from the old.

I thought I might just share a way to effectively search for old material from pre-crash LHC.

What you can do is to type in: 'subject' site:'website address'

For example, just minutes ago, Jamisoncloud was missing the Caramel Recipe. I wanted to PM the recipe to Jamison, but unfortunately everyone's PM Inbox is "full" at the moment. So just in case you see this Jamison, I went ahead and typed in the search bar:

caramel treatment site:longhaircommunity.com

And I got a bunch of things listed.

What you can do next is to click "Cached" underneath the listing, otherwise, you won't be able to view the contents. A cached page on a website is like a "snapshot photo" that the search engines take. So even though we don't have access to the old LHC just yet, you can still see the stored caches.

So all the old info that was here is still available? I got so excited when i saw LHC back up on TBB but my heart sunk when i saw that there were no old threads.

Anyone found the "trimmers measure-in" thread under polls and projects?? I can only find the "non-trimmers"-thread..
I for one forgot to make a back-up of my progress from august 2006 :( It doesn't really bug me that much about my lost photo journal... but my monthly measurings.. *sigh* never making that mistake again!

Any luck?

Thanks for the help with this. I had hoped that it would be as easy as going through my subscribed threads to find all the tips and recipes I was interested in but it looks like all that got wiped away. At least there is still a way to find the old threads.

Not necessarily. You will only be able to view what search engines have "crawled".

Oh, sorry about that. It is a very imprecise method of searching, I know. Hopefully maybe in a short while, we may be able to access the LHC Archives that Stephanie set up. ;)

I was needing a refresher on Feye's Self-Trimming Method. Sure enough, I followed your suggestions and found it "cached" on another site. JUST in time!
