This has come up alot..lmao..I used it now for over a year, and when I took it alone it definitely sped up my growth, but took a few months to tell. I take it now mainly because it is good for my joints.

Started taking it, but only did so for a month ... I'm confident it made a difference with my hair, but can't tell you how much. The biggest difference for me was with my skin.... my skin is normally clear, but MSM made it glow :)

The young lady that told me about told me she took it orally but stopped because it took a while to work she said she made a hair spritzer made with distilled water, vegetable glycerine, rosemary oil, peppermint oil, and 2 tsp of msm powder... Have you heard of anyone using it externally?

p.s. I am new to the group so I am still learning how to use everything but I did a search for MSM and nothing came up...

I have heard of that, but I have never tried it. It comes in pill or powder form. I take a bunch of others, so it is just easier to take in internally where it can circulate and give you more benefits. but I have a hair growth recipe made of Eo's and carrier oil if you want me to post it. The thing with glycerin is if the air is dry it will suck the moisture out of your hair; so you should really only use it if it is humid enough to beenfit hair.

I started taking it the first of Jan. I got 3/4" growth this month and *think* it's the MSM, but of course I have no idea if that's true. The one thing I do know is that previously barren hair follicles at the top of my forehead are sprouting baby hairs and they are now about an inch long! That surprised me as I wasn't thinking of bald spots filling in. I have a pic in my blog of that growth.

Since I also have arthritis I figured it wouldn't hurt to take it for my body as well. So I'll keep doing it and monitoring my growth.

I sure think I should have given it more than a month to work, coz it does seem to take a while. I've heard of people using it externally and I'm sure I've come across MSM shampoo and conditioners... I'm not too sure how well they work tho'.

It made my menstrual period come early btw. Not sure if you're aware that it can change your monthly pattern when taken internally.

I sometimes use a MSM shampoo. I don't use it often enough to see if it does any good for hair growing.Maybe three times a month.Maybe I'll try it for a month and see what happens. I have read you can add MSM powder to any shampoo/conditioner to make a MSM shampoo or conditioner..maybe I'll try that so I can use my other hair condiments.

HairyCarrie, how much MSM do you take daily? I have been taking it for awhile but not sure I take enough to do me any good.I'll take anything that grows more baby hairs!!

I use a lot of daily in pill form (it's part of another pill I take). My hair is growing fast.

When I searched for MSM, a couple options came up.
-MSM by itself
-Glucosamine with MSM

Do you think one is more effective then the other? I noticed the Glucosamine also had silica as an ingredient, but MSM was the last ingredient on the list.

Any opinions?

I use Recovery. It has 1200 mg of msm as well as a host of other beneficial ingredients. http://www.purica.com/recovery.htm

I take MSM now for five months. My hair made a huge growth spurt and then slowed down again. I don't know how it will influence hair growth over a longer time span but I certainly will continue to take it. My nutritional supplement routine (Bargello's and Igor's regimens were my wayposts) has benefitted me in many ways and I won't change a thing.

I would recommend taking MSM for at least a year to see whether average monthly growth increases and shedding decreases. I shed much less than before.

Glucosamine is often recommended for joint issues, as is MSM, so I think the combo is for people who are taking it for that purpose. I've never heard of glucosamine doing anything good for hair, so it's probably not necessary, unless you've got arthritis and want to kill two birds with one stone!

I take MSM from Trader Joe's (Trader Darwin's). It is 1000 MG per tablet and the recommended dose on the bottle is 1 tab up to 3 x a day. I take 2 a day, one each am and pm.

I googled "MSM Hair Growth" to read up on it and though you have to take all the internet stuff with some objectivity, I figured it was mostly positive so thought it was worth trying. And since I do have arthritis, though well controlled with an NSAID, I felt it couldn't hurt there either.
