Rice Bran Oil Verse Camellia Oil? Has anyone tried both? And was there a big difference in the oils and how your hair felt and scalp? I have tried Camellia oil and liked it. But have been thinking of trying Rice Bran oil because it is easy to get, and less expensive. Thanks any help would be appreciated.

I havent tried rice bran oil by itself. But it was in my Prann S&C, Ricebran Oil & Jasmine. I was very happy with the (discontinued :() Prann line of products in general, but that particular S&C was really great. If I could find rice bran oil somewhere, I would definitely try it!

I've read that it's good for hair and skin, and I've been wanting to try it, but haven't gotten around to it. I've been trying random oils at the grocery store, and they don't have rice bran. :(

Hi there,

I'm ashamed to say, I haven't tried rice bran oil but have heard many good things about it. I love camellia oil and also use apricot kernel oil which is very light and excellent for skin and hair. It's also very cost efficient. Most helpful in this economic downturn. ;)

Unfortunately i've not tried camellia oil yet, and i've only used rice bran oil on my skin.....but on the skin it's amazing! I get mine from the supermarket, it's incredibly cheap there so before looking online and having to pay shipping or more as a "specialist" oil i'd check out the oils or gourmet section of your local supermarket, or a health food shop.

I have tried both.

The rice bran oil was really OK, but I most often use camellia oil.
Rice bran oil was better than coconut oil though. No big noticeable difference from camellia oil, compared to the bigger difference from the coconut oil.

I prefered the rice bran oil over the camellia. And I think it's cheaper. Not that that has stopped any of us from buying an oil! :D

Hi Girlcat36 your right it is a lot cheaper. I just went to my local Asian store and picked up Rice Bran Oil 33.oz for $7.:cheese: I wish they had Camellia oil I would have also picked that up.:D

I'm dying to try rice bran in my hair. I used to use it in my skin to prevent eczema, and it was amazing. I had heard really good reviews for the Komenuka Bijin haircare line, which is based primarily on rice bran and rice bran oil, so it seems like the straight oil would be great for hair.
According to Wikipedia:
"Rice bran oil contains a range of fats, with 47% of its fats monounsaturated, 33% polyunsaturated, and 20% saturated." I also personally know that it contains gamma-oryzanol, an antioxidant that has sun protection factors.

I tried Camellia, and loved it- Oshima Tsubaki (sp?) was my favorite, made my hair really glossy and soft. In fact, I think I'm going to have to repurchase, now that I think about how great it was.

I've tried both. They both work well and feel pretty light. I like camellia oil better though. I can't really explain the small difference. To me rice bran oil is like coconut oil, they're fine but don't feel as nice. I used my bottle of rice bran oil for frying eggs and pancakes. :D

Hehe, I'm sitting here with my hair up in a bun, sopping with Rice Bran oil... I tried it totally on a whim, hadn't read this thread when I put it in! I tried olive oil for a while, and whilst my hair didn't dislike it, it didn't make a noticeable amount of difference either.

If this doesn't work, I think I'll try sesame oil, 'cause it smells sooo yummy :D

I'll post again with results in :)
