Has anybody here used henna while being pregnant?Im 28 weeks and havnt done it for three months because its becoming really tiring and draining and was seriously thinking about going back blonde after babys born because i cant see me having the time or energy to do it. I dont want to grow it out because i dont like my natural hair colour. I really dont want to stop doimg henna:wail: I love the colour and condition my hair is in! My hair is just past bsl but its really thick so its really heavy and takes hours to do. Any tips PLEASE??

Have you tried doing a henna gloss? You won't be able to get the darkness that a full head gives, but it is really so much easier.

mixing henna with either conditioner or yoghurt and applying to the hair:)

There are several different ways to do it. I mix up my henna like normal and then cut it with conditioner until the consistency is much more runny. It is so easy to smoosh into my roots. I know others who add a tbsp or two of henna powder to full fat yogurt and apply that directly to hair. They don't need to wait for dye release.

Overall, a gloss goes on so much easier, it rinses out so much easier, and in general you can still get a nice color depending on your starting color.

hey there, i'm 25 weeks pregnant and i henna to cover my dark blonde, too. i've found that when i'm feeling fat and lazy (haha) i go longer between colorings, but i still go through the whole hours-long process. but i can definitely empathize with your frustration over it!

maybe you could do as these ladies suggest, and make yourself a pre-mixed henna+conditioner goo and just use it like conditioner every few days (maybe leave it on 15 minutes in the shower or something)? because the henna builds on itself i should think this will give you a constant, though small, dose of henna to maintain your color. kind of like those "colored" shampoos, you know?

just a thought.. i hope you find something to help you out.

i have a henna mix ready to use already but i didnt use any conditioner. Would it be ok if i just take a handfull and add conditioner? Would it have the same effect?

That's all I do, but the effect will not be quite the same. It may be a lighter stain than normal. I still leave the gloss on for a couple of hours just as if it were a full strength henna.

Are you concerned about possible health risks? Then make sure you are using 100% natural henna (bought from a reputable supplier, like these here: www.hennatribe.com).

I don't henna my hair, but am a henna artist and have henna'd myself several times since becoming pregnant. Some henna artists feel that henna can lower your body temperature, but this has not been an issue for me and I feel perfectly comfortable with henna on my skin even overnight. I mix it with hot water, honey, and lavender oil.

hope this helps...

Some people here have reported reactions to henna that may be related to coumarins. Only by seeing a doctor if this occurs can that be verified.

Here is the thread.

I'm not a doctor nor a midwife but I have been doing henna for over 10 yrs and in the meantime have had 6 babies, so this is what I will tell you from my own experience.

I have had midwives for all of my babies, and when we discussed henna it was fine. There are no adverse affects or anything you should be worried about, unless your doctor/midwife says something differently. Do take care to use a good quality, pure henna powder though (BAQ) to be as safe as possible. Be careful of which essential oils you add to your mixture as well, as some are not safe during pregnancy. I usually use lavender when I wanted to add any oils.

I also henna'ed my own bellies during pregnancy and have nursed while doing henna. My youngest is now almost 8 months old. So it's been pretty good and safe! Everyone LOVES henna over in my household though!! lol!

I hope this helps.

I am not saying that using henna during pregnancy is not safe. Regarding coumarins, it is one's total intake of them that can be a problem. If one has reached a coumarin intake threshold, any added source may be too much.

There is no harm done in monitoring one's courmarin intake levels.

Here is a post on coumarins. They can be absorbed through skin and are often added to cosmetics.
