A big THANK YOU to all! This forum is amazing. I always used to just do the necessary day to day things with my hair but since I've joined this community my hair has become one of my main hobbies. The styles are wonderful and all the diverse advise superb.

For the first time ever I tried coconut oil on my hair and it's never felt so silky smooth, ever. I LOVE MY HAIR, thanks to all you ladies.

I tired this knotted up-do today cause I wanted to see if my new hair skills will prove faithful in keeping an elegant up-do in for hours (while shopping) and then still be in tact when I get home and for the rest of the day. And it worked!

Here's my hairstyle after being out and shopping the whole morning and without fixing or adjusting anything...

Ah you've become a True Longhair! :) Isn't it great when things just WORK? Hair is a hobby for a lot of us. Fun and rewarding.

Beautiful updo!
Now I'm curious how exactly you did it. Just tying your hair in knots and pin it?

Very pretty updo. I was wondering how long is your hair?
Mine is APL (? somewhere around that length) don't know if it is long enough for that do or not.

Well I couldn't find anything in the articles or the boards. From the photos and other members' references to this as a bun, I'm guessing that the hair has been bunned using one (possibly two) knotted lengths of hair, instead of the usual twisted or plaited strand. The knots would be tied all along the strand, one under the other, until all the hair is used up, and then the strand is bunned in the usual fashion.

Is this correct?

I have an idea about how it could be made (see post 13 above) but I'm not entirely sure. If that is how it's made, I fear one needs longer hair than I have to put this updo together! :(

CeliahAnn, that is beautiful! I love how it looks from the back, and how you can kinda see it a bit from the front. It would make a lovely wedding updo. :inlove:

Very nice. I would be quite pleased if I managed an updo like that and it held all day.

This looks lovely!

It also looks mysterious, and may braided...

Can you explain the updo?

Thanks!

Lovely 'do!

Is this a take on Torrin Paige's (sp?) knotted/fancy updo? I remember seeing it on youtube; please tell me this is possible with slippery hair! :D

Love it! It looks very beautiful! I've been trying to figure out some updo's that I can wear for everyday, and not just special occasions.

Thanks for all the compliments (blush)

It's real easy once you know how. I did it again today for going to church and it was perfect. I've looked through so many up-do's and especially wedding ones and so it reminded me what the hairdresser did for my hair on my wedding day more than 5 years ago. I had to go to a special hairdresser in the Mount Nelson Hotel (5 starts) cause that's the only hairdresser round here that will work with knee length hair. They go overseas specially to train for working with extra long hair. If I had to walk into a normal hairdresser they'd just about laugh in my face.

Anyway what it basically was is a pony tail that you devide into sections and each strand you knot about three or four times depending on length of hair and then pin it all over to make the bun. I'll try do a step by step photo tutorial sometime this week and post it here. So watch this space! (wink)

Thank you so much CeliahAnn. I might be able to do a mini version of this. If I stretch my hair straight I'm almost waist length. With the wurls it sits about 1.5" above my waist. I'm not sure if I could get more than two knots in each section, so I'll see how it works out!

You have such amazingly long and beautiful hair. :) It never occurred to me that stylists would have specialist training for handling very long hair, but it does make sense! Lots of LHCers are wary of stylists because they don't seem to know how to treat longhairs.
