Hey everyone,

My hair isn't long enough to do updo's and use hair forks and sticks yet, but I just bought my first one and would like to see how everyone likes to wear their forks or sticks.

Post pics please....

This is my only hair fork, and one of my favorite hair toys; I can only do figure-8 styles with the fork now.

I'm literally the Queen of the forks. HAHA.....I don't wear sticks as I'm stick stupid, and can't wear ficcare's because they're metal and bother my head (too heavy plus metal allergy)

My photo album is FULL of pics of forks and updos with them. I've only got around 19-20 inches of hair and can do lots of updos, even with this length.

I don't have any pictures to post (I really need to take some!) but I wanted to encourage you ... I thought I would have to wait forever to use forks/sticks, but just a bit past shoulder is fine, it turns out. I use a fork to secure a french twist all the time now, and I'm thrilled about it, it holds so much better than all the bobbie pin nonsense from my earlier years. :cheese:

I bet you'll be able to use the forks and sticks soon!

Thanks everyone! I really enjoyed the pics. I would love to see more picture threads and articles posted on the site. It helps a lot to get ideas and it's also nice to look at healthy hair for encouragement anyways:)

Thanks for posting this thread, lenac! Took the questions right out of my mouth. I'm just now getting the hairstick bug...don't have any yet and don't even know if I have enough hair to warrant using any. I notice most ladies who have posted their pics have a ton more hair than I do.

I went to Sally Beauty Supply last night to see if they had any hair accessories (other than extensions!), and they had a few hair sticks for $2.99 a pair, but honestly I've been so spoiled after seeing all the pretty hair sticks on here, I thought those at the store looked ugly. :p

I am appreciating all these photos!!

I only have 19" of hair and have been using sticks for a while now! Don't think you have to have long hair to use them - sometimes you just have to adapt things. (but I can't wait until I can do some of the wrapped styles). I am an official member of the Hair Idiots's club too, so if I can do it anyone can!

You inspired me to try a flipped bun, and it *almost* works. I can't seem to get it hold it's form once I put the fork in. Can you tell me where to secure the fork - it also seems to hang from a few hairs and really hurts.

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond! That last one is just a peacock twist held with a single stick. Here's instructions, I hope they make sense, LOL!

* Gather hair at the nape and twist in an upward motion creating a log, leaving the ends loose at the crown of the head.
* Secure with stick by inserting it into the hair 3/4 of the way over to one side of the "log" of hair and almost all the way to the top part of the log where the loose ends begin (I find the right side easier personally, but you might like the left better). I put the stick in directly pointing at the head until it reaches the scalp hairs, then swipe to the right then the left ensuring that the scalp hairs are trapped in. I find that a thicker stick works best for this style.

It's a pair of forks, one on each side - and I added a scroo in the middle to secure it. I don't think it would work with one fork only, although I will try it. But these horn forks come as a pair (more similar to hairsticks, actually, as you can see also in Manderley's pic), and I push them in from both sides.

The tricky part with the flipped bun is the degree of looseness you reach by turning the exterior part "back". When it has the right degree of looseness, the bun can be flipped with ease. And then it looks really great. I wear the flipped bun a lot because it looks elegant and give a fine shape to the back of my head.
