A friend sent me this and I was impressed with the Chinese hair shots (#11 and #12). I was wondering what sort of updo they did and what they were using to cover it. It looks like they pony it way in the front but I wonder what they do with it after that. I dont know if this link will work or not. I tried to save the pics so I could post them to photobucket and then post the link. Mods please delete if this doesnt work.

It didnt work...

Oh, I really would like to see those pictures. I love Chinese traditional hairstyles. Wonder that's what you saw. Pony in the front and cover? Is it the hairstyle of court ladies in Qing dynasty ("qitou") (http://www.chinahistoryforum.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=17092&view=findpost&p=4886471)? They covered this updo with a special hat.

I got it! Thank you sooo much! Oh, they are beautiful. Those ladies are yáo people in China. I saw several pictures of them wrapping their hair. I cannot remember the site now. I will look for it.

Here are some links I found... They use a comb to hold long black hair. Amazing....!

Big hair loop! (http://www.pbase.com/katzenchine/image/43105596)
From what I gather, they bring all their hair up front. Twist it. Make a loop like in the photo. Place over their head and secure with a comb.

Here is a YouTube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLuuLsBi-Ac&feature=channel_page).

I think you can find more nice photos if you google "guangxi yao.":)

That's some way to put up long hair and offset the weight. Wow!

Like some sort of crown-log-roll-bun thing. It reminds me of the hat that looks like bread (King Henry VIII of England wears one in a portrait). Very cool, thanks for sharing!

Thank you Akiko! That is amazing! It looks like a hat. I am going to have to give that a shot and see how it looks.

Ok, I was playing around and finally gave this a shot. Actually I liked it! It was really comfortable on my head. My hair is not as long as the Chinese women but basically I just pulled it all to the front and put an elastic, then I divided it into two pieces and braided both sides then wrapped it around to the back and secured sort of like a faux crown braid but with the base in the front. I thought it would look really weird but actually it didnt. Now to get the nerve to wear it out. It feels really good wearing it around the house.
