Well....not much to say, except that you can secure this with a more stuff then just a hair stick. It is really secure.

Enjoy!

Update: New video! :) Hopefully this one should make he whole process more clear!

Oh, I did not see this post earlier. I just tried. It's quick and very secure. I admire your creative updos. I cannot wait to try your romantic french twist, too. Sadly, my hair is too short now.

The back story:

Yesterday, I recived a call form mom who told me that nephew was taken to hospital because he was very dehydrated (stomach flu and high fever and he is 8 months old). She promised to call as soon she heard anything new.

I got really really restless and started to play with my hair......and then this just happned. I did a video (why not, I was still waiting for the phone to ring and I had to do something, otherwise I would start to climb the walls).

Mother called late last night and told me that nephew is home again, much better after the doc had managed to trick him to start drinking fluids.

Spread the base upwards as you are twisting the lenght. Keep the whole thing close to your head while you are working.

That's a supercool idea. I'm going to try it soon. But I can't really see your hair in the updo because of the lightning and now your lovely red hair looks black.

This looks doable and great! But on both my home monitor and work monitor I can't tell what you do in the very beginning after you've gathered it into a ponytail and before you start slowly pulling the loop upwards. What does the bottom part look like?

Sorry...I'm a bit of an updo dummy and this may be something very elementary to french twists or updos in general :o.

I just create a loop. Check http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3744462317182825886 , I do the same thing in the beginning here.

Great style Hypontica. I love the french twist and now I know what to do with the extra hair at the top. You just make a hair slide out of it. See only people with talent can make a hair accessory out of there own hair. lol

Oh wow, what a cool idea! I have a little too much hair for a typical French twist (although I was able to do your version with a braid looped around it). This looks like it would work well to take up some of the length. :)

This is very nice, easy to do and looks great! If I can resolve my camera issues, I'll post a photo.

The beginning reminds me of the way Nightshade starts her equalibrium bun. The tail is looped at the base with the fingers inside the loop and the loose end is pulled out halfway while twisting the loop until the ends are in the loop. Basically it is folding the hair in half while twisting the folded part.

Nightshade does this while pulling it away from her head, while you are pulling it straight up. Nightshade finishes it by coiling the loop like a cinnamon bun. I have an old photo of Nightshade's bun

I tried it this morning (and I'm wearing it now :D) - it's really quite easy to do, I just have to remember not to do it too tight, otherwise the "hair slide" part won't work. Thanks again for sharing.

Aha, you're using your own hair to make half the barrette (for a slide). It's like the Infinity Bun this way, except the hair is twisted in a log behind it versus making as bun behind it. Clever! :rockerdud

I believe you could do a log roll and then use the hair loop as a slide. My hair is too short to do a log roll, otherwise I had tried that. :)

Thanks for the video, I've never gotten a french twist to work for me before. With the rolling method it doesn't look clean, and with the twisting method I don't know what to do with all the stuff at the top.

I did my own variation though. I kept some of my front hair out, and put it smooth backwards after and tucked it under. With a headband it looks cute and 60's inspired.;)

Hypnotica, this is brilliant!

The French twist was my favorite style from shoulder to about BSL. Then I lost the ability to make one, because I couldn't tuck the length in neatly.

I just tried your variation and, after a few tries, it takes me about 30 seconds to do.

Also, I think that I will be able to use this method, sans loop at the end, to make a regular French twist.

Thank you for giving the French twist back.

Hypnotica,

I found something similar to what you do on the Ficcare website and wanted to try it out, but I couldn't secure it properly. Your improvisation is brilliant. I like the loop-securing thingy you do at the very end and it came out beautifully for me. I used a clip instead of a stick though. Thank you! :)

No problem! I love the french twist myself.......that is probably why this is the third variation that I have made a video off.....

Maybe I should change from "Epic Geek" to "French Twist Modifier"??

I did it! I did it! LG is in shock. :happydance:

Hypnotica, I lied in bed this morning figuring out how to make this work for me. Basically I start with a Log Roll, except I made three twists instead of my usual two, and before starting wrapping the rest of my hair's length around the log, I expanded the loop at the top, and only then did I wrap around the lower portion of it. Then I pulled the big top loop down over the middle of the log and got this result:

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y284/LadyGodiva1078/HairstickLogRoll/center.jpg

Haha, lumpy!

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y284/LadyGodiva1078/HairstickLogRoll/left.jpg

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y284/LadyGodiva1078/HairstickLogRoll/right.jpg

The hair stick goes behind the log, grabbing scalp hair. Pulling the loop down kind of bends the Log Roll. The updo is as solid as a rock.

Happy, happy, joy, joy! Another hair style that I can wear. Thank you for this idea. With my super straight, super long, super slick hair, regular buns of any sort do not hold (without 30 hair pins, and even then it's still iffy...). THIS WORKS. It's as secure as can be, and it's even better than the large Maximas. OK, maybe it looks a bit funky 'cuz it's so large, but all my updos are, anyhow.

Hot dayum!

Oh, I made a little video (http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y284/LadyGodiva1078/HairstickLogRoll/?action=view&current=HSLR.flv) of what it looks like after successfully getting it up, just to show how it looks "in action." I didn't make a video while constructing the style, not knowing if it would work or not.

You are giving my hope as a super longhair for the future! :) We are almost hair twins (I only have ii-hair thought) with our super straight, super slick hair. :) Only problem is that I have realized that I will not be able to sell any hair sticks any more due to non-use - this style works perfectly with only one stick securing it.

I'm very glad this has proven to be such a versatile updo that works for so many kinds of different hairs.

A real french twist is easier to make with shorter hair. O did it with a friend with 2,35" thickness with hair just below the shoulders. That went amazing! And with a Medium Ficcarissimo it was really pretty. But for thr bun on top yep you have to have longer hair.

The trick for me seems to be to insert three fingers in the loop and to twist close to the head but not too tightly. Then I have a well-defined loop that makes a perfect hair slide.

Hypnotica, I really love this hair style. I really thought that the French twist was lost to me forever. I'm so happy to have it back. :flowers:
