What natural products can clarify hair/remove buildup on the length of the hair and/or scalp? How often can they be used? My assumption with the conventional clarifying shampoos is that they are simply very strong SLS shampoos.

I have read that ACV only removes deposits from the current shampoo.

I really feel that only SLS/ALS etc gets my hair really "clean."

Tried Rhassoul, baking soda, vinegar, etc etc and have gone back to sulfate shampooing, because it makes my hair and scalp cleaner. I don't use them in full strength, or shampoo my length, or scrub my head, rubbing my hair all over my head, or use sulfates with every wash...but occasional sulfate use (every other wash or once a month, as needed) helps cut the grease that tends to weigh my hair down and create icky scalp conditions. Nothing else worked.

but to each her own...

For me monthly henna application cleans my hair very well.

Thanks for mentioning henna. Now that I think of it, my hair does feel quite clean after henna. And I would assume that the mud from a full head Cassia treatment would have a similar effect.

Baking soda is known to remove build up, I'm sure there are some threads about if you search.
I have tried baking soda once and my hair felt terrible afterwards so I went back to clarifying with ALS shampoo instead.

I have never used cassia. I buy henna from an indian grocery store. I pay approx. $1.30.
